Nice to watch (and hear) a couple of V8 Grand Cherokees instead of whiny sounding 6 cylinder Wranglers and Toyotas all the time. I really like my 4.7L WJ.
Excellent camera work and badass trucks customized for real offroad action. I love it. My 2004 V8 WJs are bone stock so couldn't tackle this kind of trail, but just seeing what can be done with them is truly inspirational. WJ Laredo 4.7 V8 and WJ Overland V8 with the High Output 4.7-liter V8 are my evil twins.
I am tear apart between buying on of these. ZJ looks super oldschool but WJ got everything a bit better - newer engine and stronger axles with quadra drive. I am planning a 6.5" inch lift with long arms and 35's. And I had an WJ years ago and never own a ZJ :) So far this is the best video showing ZJ and WJ on a trail. Love it. Half of these views are from me :)
So I'm my personal opinion between ZJ vs WJ. It comes down to preference. The ZJ is the better wheeling rig for two factors guys constantly overlook. Body size and approach/departure angle. The WJ is not as good in these two aspects. The drivetrain is equally as strong in both vehicles. They are the exact same axles internally. The difference is the overall width and all the other stuff outside of the housing. If you have a properly functioning transfer case, the 96-98 Grand 249 case actually works better than the WJ in most situations. The 247 in the WJ does ok but bleeds too much power and it's slow to respond to torque inputs. Personal preference here but I find the ZJ to have a better setup to build personally. That being said, the WJ looks good and definitely is better on road. Also has better electrical so less issues there. For most people, the WJ is better for day to day comfort and it's factory steering/suspension drives nice. In the off-road segment, I pick the ZJ for the slightly smaller body and more parts interchange with xj,tj,lj jeeps. I'm a ZJ owner myself and I'm glad I chose it but could happily drive either vehicle. Who leaves their off-road rig stock anyways??? Lol pick the one you feel comfortable in and build it!
@@TheMrREVOlutionary @extremeoverlanding I took a ZJ, I let my heart choose, not my brain :) It's now on long arms, 33" and giving a lot of fun - here is a small video at the end of my forging video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JBsMWBbQJ3M.html
The 10.15-minute mark proves that the WJ's Quadra-Drive has a definite edge over the ZJ's 4WD system. It was a close call, but that steep incline clearly showed the WJ to be the superior design from the standpoint of demonstrated mountain-goat traction under gnarly conditions.
@@BobCummins nice. I love going to the USA. Wife and I are going to New York in September. And next year I'll be attending all the jeep events from Washington to Utah
Even tho the wj has much more aftermarket support than the zj, which is the least supported, I am sticking with my zj, plus like having the v8,, always gets me thru anywhere and everywhere I go with my circle of friends
I just picked up my first WJ the other Day. Its a 01 4.0 with a 164k Loaded interior. This thing looks like a 3 year old used Jeep thats how clean it is. Im not a fan of the 4.7 at All as the 4.0 is the better and more reliable choose for me. Im located in Western Pa Butler County Birth Place of the Jeep and Home of the Heritage Jeep Fest. This WJ came from California and has NO Rust what so ever. Im a XJ guy always had one or two since 2003 I've had 16 XJs since. When I came across this Beautiful WJ I had to give it a try. Im happy to say the least and should've tried one long ago. Its currently all Stock I've got plans for it. Gonna do either a 3inch short arm or 4inch long arm plus other goodies. I used to think the XJ was the Best J.......Now the WJ and ZJ are the Best J's. If your a Jeeper Come to Butler Pa The Birth Place of the Jeep for the Heritage Jeep Fest THIS YEAR IN JUNE.....
Regardless of amount lifted, recommend a longarm, and adjustable trackbars, the ride, handling, articulation just kick ass over the shortarm, as I learned doing my zj one step at a time, all started cause played in water one nite, and didn't get stuck at all, a surprise in itself as had bald tires,, but did eat the bearings in both axles by time got home, well might as well do 31s when do axles cause need to replace the bald 235x15, had rubbing so did the spacers thing, and then needed adjustable trackbars,, broke a spring so popped for whole set 4inch, oh what the hell, might as well do the longarm and be done with it,,,, so running 31s on factory wheels, no rubbing and the longarm wished had just done the whole thing at one time right away to begin with
just picked up an 04 wj for free cause it didnt run a few sensors later its fine. and being in sardis not far from where you filmed thismight have to do some suspension work and make a toy out of it
That 4.7 HO,, Borla exhaust or straight pipe? That tone and exhaust note from that engine is so unique and sounds so heckin good! I’ll never get rid of mine. Not to take away from the 318,, another one I’ll keep forever,, but the WJ is just a superior platform imo
to the owner of the WJ ; how high is the lift and what size are the tires? Did you have to trim? I just put a long arm 4 inch lift and 33 inch tires, I rub all over. I dont want to lose my fog lights.... I have 1.5 inch spacers I havent put in yet but any tips you might have I will be forever in your debt.
The lift is 6.5 inches and some trimming has been done but not a lot and the tires are 35s. Spent a lot of time moving the diffs around so they don’t rub
So, what trim levels and what engines are in both? Can make a huge difference in the 4wd (or full time 4wd system). Lockers in either one? Love them both, as I have both a zj and a wj, but I'm still debating which to life. Both of mine are v-8, fulltime 4x4 limited models.
@@darinvee4980 no I'm not but built in the car and jeep scene means fully built engine fully built drive train fully built suspension roll age everything was thought of this is coming from someone who has over 50 k tied into a wj and is infact built it's literally a one off vehicle I could replicate this jeep in this video 50fuckimg ways from Someone to say a lift wheels and tires and a wench is "built " is moronic y'all out here acting like y'all drive sema jeeps and don't even have lockers lmfao so yeah call me stupid buttttttttttttt 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
