Can you imagine how good the players will be in 10 years (assuming the sport continues to gain popularity). More players means stiffer competition. We haven’t even begun to see what some naturally gifted freaks are gonna be able to do once the sport takes off. Imagine 6’7” dudes that can rip a 750’ line 8 times out of 10, while releasing the disc at 90+ mph. There’s gotta be some crazy genetics out there that’s gonna take this whole game to a new level.

One guy who is interesting to follow is Finnish Oliver Helander. He is 23 and this is his first proper year in disc golf. His main sport is javelin and he has thrown over 88 meters. He is having injuries and what can he do if he would change to disc golf. With his technique and arm speed, overhead shots 600 feet without Epic? Maybe. Might be tough for shoulders though to throw something so light. He is 6,5" and 180 lbs. Two tournaments and current rating 967. Another javelin guy posted a video in instagram. Forehand 560 feet and he doesn't even have a proper technique. I know couple of other Finnish young javelin throwers who are playing disc golf semi-seriously. The have the arm speed to throw far and physical ready. Of course drive and distance is only small part of the game, but wanted to comment your comment.

I 100% agree with Consolidating the tours into one. It’s very confusing and probably will help with sponsors.. YES. We definitely need a tour sponsor. “The pro tour present by .....” more money into the sport equals better players. We also need to consolidate all the RU-vid coverage pages into one...

Having to qualify to play on the Pro Tour is an interesting idea, but there needs to be more than just the top 100 placing. Some of the most interesting stories at events are the underdog local who is able to make it into the top 10 and be competing for a top spot. Additionally, you can change the payout model without cutting making people qualify for the tour. It might be good to have a qualifier tournament the weekend before the event, or the day before the event, and the top players who qualify could get into the event, if there was going to be a list of qualified players.

You guys get to see a much different side of Paul compared to the world, with him being a business partner and friend. To me, he's the guy who skipped 2019 Idlewild, a Pro Tour Tournament he won the previous year, to do PR at Am Worlds; and while at Idlewild a team full of Discraft Players had to man a booth selling nothing but McBeth Signature discs. He had a good rivalry with Will Schusterick when Will went to Prodigy, and then with Ricky for a few years, but he's also the one who is most likely to talk trash in your friendly matches or in DMs to other Pros, and could easily be the LeBron that you either love or hate.

I watched quite a bit of pro Squash and a bit of Tennis before getting into the pro side of disc golf, so I'm used to sports with very few real rivalries, and I figured out a way to make any match entertaining and exciting to me and I've adapted it to disc golf. When I'm watching coverage, whether it's live or post-produced, I look at the card and choose 1 or 2 players to cheer for, and 1 or 2 players to cheer against. I don't really have anything against (m)any players, but it's fun to have favourites and... non-favourites(?) even if they're artificial. For example, I cheered against Conrad for DGLO, not because I hate the guy, but because it's just as fun to have someone to cheer against as cheering for someone. It was just as fun for me to watch Eagle or Jones drain a putt from way out as it was to watch Conrad miss a 20' putt because of who I chose for that round. My point is that rivalries aren't necessary; you can, as a viewer, create your own dynamics even match by match.

I got into discgolf, after seeing Paul and Ricky battle it out in the finals of the worlds last year. I am a fan of Ricky now (he was the underdog in that tournament that he lost by 1 stroke) and I want him to get one above Paul every time going forward. Saying that, I love watching Paul's game and have a lot of respect for the consistency he brings in every game. Seeing Calvin, Kevin, Eagle along with Paul and Ricky is just making it more interesting. What's better than Paul and Ricky battling it out is all 5 of them battling out. We need consistent players at that caliber going at each others throats each week. We saw that DGLO and I hope we get that more going forward.

Some people watch sports for the skill and athleticism and not the reality tv show drama. People don’t watch the NBA and NFL for drama, there is some, but people watch it because they like the sport. I don’t think there’s any place for manufactured drama here, if a player is good and also has an attitude then that’s one thing.
@ZacharyCor

I agree. You HAVE to incentivize the best of the best to come out. To me, if I was good enough - which I am not, I would never leave the comfort of my job for the potential to maybe win $3,000 at a tournament. Just not happening.

Obviously close games are more fun to watch for people who don’t care who wins, if you are a fan of a player/team then you want them to dominate. This is pretty standard across all sports, yes some people want all games to be close but that’s not most. You want domination because it validates that the your favorite is the best.

Re: the usefulness of C1x putting as a statistic - would average putts per hole be at least as useful? If somebody is getting 1 putt per hole for a round, they're putting the lights out (or getting a lot of drop ins - often equally good). But if you're seeing somebody average 1.7 or more putts per hole regardless of distance, it's probably not indicative of a good round. Eh?

Part of the current issue with rivalries is that the players all kinda stay together and hang out together and are friends. I think its harder for friends to make rivalries, esp when the biggest commentators in the sport are players on tour and friends with most of the other pros. It's definitely hard to manufacture rivalries in that way.

Speculative reasons why women have a relatively harder time putting than men: 1) Physical strength - It takes relatively less effort for men to putt a disc 30' than it does for a woman. The more effort you have to put into it, the harder it is to be precise. That alone leads to more errors over time. This difference is exacerbated any time you have an awkward stance where you can't use your normal weight shift to generate forward momentum. 2) Physical body dimensions - The longer limb length of males relative to females gives them an inherent advantage. Not only is the disc that much closer to the basket for your average male when extending on release, decreasing margin for error even on putts of technically the same length, but the effective putting "window" from any given obstructed lie is that much bigger as well. A 6' male can straddle out further right or left than a 5' female to get around an object, and has another foot in height to work with as well. A tall person can always bend down, but a short person can't bend up. 3) Elevated baskets - The shorter you are, the smaller your vertical window to hit from any given lie on an elevated basket. Pro courses feature a decent amount of elevated baskets nowadays to up the challenge factor. Give two equally skilled putters 100 putts at the same distance, but give one of them a smaller window to make the putt, and you can bet the other guy is going to make more putts.

Is there any room for the different disc manufacturers to start acting like formula racing or even having them pick 4 innova players and for DD or discraft and create "team standings" that track. It would be one more storyline. Also baseball does stats and commentating using stats really well. We need more "he is avging 90% circle 1x puts this season but he is only shooting 78% this tournament that's 3 strokes...." And lastly they need to start digging up last year's shots for some of the guys on some of these holes if they threw an amazing or OB last year would fill dgpt coverage time and be interesting. Another suggestion has been made to me is placing like 90 degree shield on the baskets to force certain approaches otherwise you are out of position on your putt.

Throw out the C1x and C2 stats with the ratings! They make no sense. Paige's length might get her to C1 edge when everyone else is barely getting to C2. So then she misses a 32 footer and the player in C2 floats one past to 12 ft and has an easy C1x putt. Make it simple. Decide on the size of the green. Then talk about GIR's, proximity to the hole and avg putt lengths made.

Nikko Locastro's behavior is unacceptable, screamning all the time and overall doing to much when HE misses, taking way too long time something that should be called many times if you ask me but the worst thing is dropping f-bombs when kids are watching irl and live/post productions. Disc golf will never grow more into the mainstream if people like him will be the faces of the sport and to imply more people like him would be a good thing is insane... When he's on a card I almost doesn't want to watch it because I know he will piss me off. With that said I'm glad he won The Preserve because I respect the grind and he have somewhat of a unique style for a pro.

It's a shame you have to play that "game" to grow the sport.

Yes there needs to be more rivalries and YES there's too much "nice-ness". I wanna see some heart and passion. Not this "oh well I missed the winning putt, but atleast im enjoying the outdoors" bullshit. Where's the Jordan mentality in disc golf? It doesn't really exist outside of Paul McBeth.

Hunter dude I know you’re lying. You’re super biased to wanting to grow disc golf because you’re the most passionate about it. So yes a close game will always be better for a sport to grow. (ESPN college football classics.) But, if you’re a real fan of any sports team around the world. Basketball, American football, football, anything. You want to see your team destroy and demantle your rival or any other team. And by 30 is way better than by the skin of your teeth. In disc golf, as it grows, players will gain real followings and people that viscously support them and only them. I live for the day that people have real insults in calling someone bandwagon for being a Paul Mcbeth or Simon Lizzotte fan.

The poor stats you just brought up from the fpo is why it's so boring to watch.

This whole pod was pretty trash. Golfers trash talking will bring in 0 new people. What an absurd assumption. You watch the fight cause you already know and respect fighters. People who don't know disc aren't going to get invested in a game they see as Frisbee golf because they seen disc golfers trash talking. Also, in what world does the algorithm give some random and a disc golf video. How's this for drama, Foundation misses the mark neerly every time and has no substance

Curious, what difference does it make if FPO makes a lower percentage of C1 putts than MPO? Comparing the two is a complete waste of time. We do not go around and compare F1 to NASCAR.... story lines and “dramas are great.. but stop fabricating it Joe Buck.
@HelloTygr
@HelloTygr 3 года назад
You do realize that FPO is literally just females playing the exact same sport as the men in MPO, right? There is no physical reason that women should be missing putts from within 10 metres (and arguably 20 metres as well) more often than the men. That's why we are comparing FPO putting to MPO putting, especially within circle 1.

@@rodeo_cwboy No, I disagree with you. You said comparing the two is a waste of time, I said it's not. You said it's like comparing two similar but different sports, I said it is comparing the same sport with different players. Not sure where you see agreement but w/e.
