I have not used my Hoover Steam Vac in a while. Took it out of the basement to use on a small area of carpet upstairs. The gravity feed worked fine for the cleaning solution, and the suction worked well, too, but noticed the brushes were not spinning. Your video is a great starting point and hopefully I can fix these brushes myself. This is the only problem this machine has given us in ten years.
Thank you for your reply back ... I fixed two machines by tearing them apart and the only new part that was needed was the drive brush. Sold them in a yard sale today... Yes I love it when it works so well... thank you for the help you provided on here. Susan
I was going in to oil the motor as you were suggesting. However, I realized that the arm connected to the switch for the brushes was not connected properly. Fixing that saved me a ton of time. Your video was still very helpful. Thanks
Thanks for posting this. I used this video to help me replace a leaking water pump in our Hoover Spin Scrub. Once you remove the vacuum motor the pump is held in by one screw and a tab on the bottom of the machine that you just press in with a flat head screwdriver.. Total time to repair was about a 1/2 hour and the cost was $25 for the part including shipping.
Good summary. I have been trying for months to get information on my SteamVac and this video was the key. Brushes were not turning although I had cleaned them. Found that the screen for the air motor intake was plugged! After cleaning the screen as shown on the video it worked like new.
Thanks for the video. I couldn't figure out why my brushes weren't turning and then watched your video and in the first few seconds learned that my intake screen was clogged. Cleaned it and now they work!
You did a nice job of explaining what is needed to get the machine running again. I have one that was abused ... someone thought it was a vacuum I think.
Good question there... I take it you have a newer model with built-in attachments? I have one of those as well, and had the same problem. I think the only "real" repair is to purchase a new hose. I was unable to get the rest of the hose out of the connector, so I just ended up cutting it off, and forcing the hose in. The hose still leaks, though, so I can't really use the attachments, but I only use this vac in the basement, so it wasn't a problem.
I'm not sure how to take the handle apart, but my best suggestion is to just remove any screws on the handle, and see if it will come apart. I may be able to make a video later in the week with mine if you would want me to. As far as getting a replacement trigger, again, not sure about that, unless you can find a parts machine. If you have a local vac repair shop, you might be able to check with them to see if they could order one but most shops deal with higher end vacs (kirby, royal, etc)
Have a newer unit than this with solution container outside clear water tank. When trying to shampoo, no fluids, water or soap will dispense. When switching to rinse, I get clear water dispensing without a problem. How do I get soap and water active again?
Not sure if you can help me out, but you don't by chance know how to dismantle up to the handle of hoover. Our trigger is dead, guessing a piece of plastic broke off, so I wanted to open it up and see if I could either get a replacement trigger or find some sort of makeshift repair. Aside from the trigger the vacuum works great, it's just now I have to press it in a very awkward way, using both my hands for it to hit the button so the solution sprays. Any suggestions? Thank You!
Is there any way at all you could please tell me the exact size/thickness and length of the 2 nuts and 2 bolts that come with this -as I have lost mine and need to buy more from my local hardware store? Thank you!
My machine leaks like crazy when I turn it on with the upholstery attachment-without me even pulling a trigger. It seems like it is leaking under the attachment motor. What should I check?
Hi there again ... just ran across another problem with trying to repair the acc. hose at the bottom where it is fastened to the machine. It was glued into the black fitting. How to get the hose out of the fitting or where to buy a new fitting. Thanks for your help.
Helpful, however I'd practice your demonstion a few times and get it down to a science before you record another video and have somebody hold the camera next time. This video looked you where learning as you where going (trial and error)also very unsure of what you where trying to accomplish.
i have a machine that looks allot like this and I AM NOT HAPPY WITH IT. in fact i think its a real peice of shit. first motor failed under warrenty. its making that god aweful sound again 3 years later. the motors in these things are horrible. i also have 3 kirby vacuums; an 11 year old G6 a 30 year old heritage I and a 1979 tradition. they all sound allot better then that hoover piece of crap and they all have a TON of hours on them
