Thank you! It was driving me crazy trying to find a straight forward how-to vid, that wasn't trying to sell you something. Took me days of watching lots of different channels. I'm glad this was helpful.
Agreed. If they could make this size freezer with a single piece (to make it water proof without the use of an sealants) plastic interior / liner, they would sell out everywhere.
@@boabglen UV Filtration. This is a common sterilization process used at drinking water facilities just at a much larger scale. It's cheap, easy to set up out of the box (plug and play) and very effective.
@jodull3197 It's running too much. I would honestly add ice for the first cool down. Or turn it off for 2-3hrs until it hits the ideal temperature. The heat is a feature of the freezer to keep condensation from forming in a humid environment.
This is my question. We have a freezer like this not being used and I just need a hot soak every once in a while and prefer salt water, not chlorine at the gym.
how is the green machine keeping the water clean for you?.... I'm building one and was looking into Ozone Generators but it's just so involved and expensive I would much rather go the green machine way.... I already have the Marine Land pump...
It's been great. Under $100, widely used at drinking water facilities for sterilization just on a larger scale, and it's plug and play out of the box. You won't be disappointed.
There's more to UV than plug and play. Particularly with UV filters designed for water "clarity" not water sanitization. Most submersible aquarium UV filters will only make your water look clear, not actually kill bacteria. Flow rate of pump and UV contact time with water are critical. If you want to do UV right, you need an external cannister filter and inline UV filter. Which is way more expensive and time consuming that just using a proper ozone treatment system. You can get an ozone generator for $100 and only have to change the water once per year. If you cheap out in the beginning, you are going to spend more time messing with the water and more money on buying the things you should have in the first place.
@@davidmcchristian9861 yes this absolutely is the way... since making that comment 6 month ago I've since found the UV sterilizer with Marine Land canister filter is ok but not highly effective... the water still gets cloudy and smells a bit "off"... but not nearly as bad as with no filtration... however... now that I've purchased the proper Ozone generator made for water that has really proven to be the way.... also with the marine land filter for particulates...
Great video! Been wanting to figure out a good way to make a plunge without ozone, because i want to put it in a basement room that isn't well ventilated. How often do you clean the filters, tub, and change the water?
Depends on how much use it's getting, and how clean the individual going in. So far, I think I've cleaned the filters 3 times, and done a few partial water changes, mostly to vacuum debris off the bottom.
How’s this build holding up? Thinking of going a similar route (no JBWW or pond shield/liner) but I’ve read mixed experiences regarding leaking and eventual rust spots showing through the white enamel coating.
Thinking of doing the same exact set up. Do you think the 3m silicone marine grade will work as well. It’s used on major boats and water craft. Also mines will be staying outdoors in fl as well. Think it would last? And finally can you run all the wires ( inkbird, UV, and marine filter ) through a hole on top of the lid if I drill one?
You can program all those setpoints on the controller. You could set it to cool down to 40°, then shut off and start up at 48°. Mine is set to cool down to 32°, then it turns off until it warms back up to 36°.
Thanks for the comment. So far, so good. Been almost exactly 3 months, and I think I'm due for my first big water change. I may do 50% or more. Water isn't as clean as it was, I'm attributing that to doing more contrast therapy (going from 200°f sauna to 32°f water 2 or 3 times) lately.
The inkbird controller is what makes it turn on and off based on how high or low the temperature goes. You set all the parameters. For instance, cool down to 33f, then off until the temp is 42f, then back on until it reached 33f again.
Someone in another video mentioned to not cover the freezer since it is running, the walls of the freezer will overheat, which will eventually ruin it prematurely.. is this true? why would I leave my freezer open outside.. what would you suggest?
As he stated once you get it cold ,it stays cold for awhile , particularly now that its cold . When I first got mine and bringing the temp down though , the Sides were definitely Really hot. I turned off and ran at night hoping the night cold air would help , as I thought it was gonna overrheat .
@@thetattooed6_9weirdo32 this was my experience as well, the heating of the exterior walls is actually a feature of chest freezers not a defect. It heats up so the outside of the freezer doesn't get condensation on it and rust out in a humid warm environment.
This was brilliant, exactly the information that I’m looking for here in Australia to get my own ice bath set up. Now can you please do one on an equally cheap set up for a float tank? Ice baths and float tanks are the dream combo for me…
Adding enough salt could potentially cause frostbite if the temperature drops low enough, so this is not generally recommended. Also, if the water does freeze a bit and you get some ice in the plunge, it keeps the freezer from running as often, saving you some money.
they banned most ozones in california so was look for an alternative, so far this is the only video where you have a different method. does it matter if my freezer is larger? should I add anything else for more sanitization?
@@Snake_Boi you will want UVC to actually kill bacteria. UV only disrupts photosynthesis for aquariums. its purely cosmetic. UVC is what is used to purify dirty water into drinking water. id rather plunge in drinking water than aesthetic water.
A filter to remove suspended solids. Something powerful enough to really agitate the water and keep any solids from settling so it'll eventually get pulled into the filter.
how long did it take to cool the water? I have filled my and dumped some ice bags in it and brought the temperature down to 67. left it over night and it's at 63 now. is that normal or something is wrong with my chest freezer? I have the same freezer.
Hi, I bought a new freezer to male ice bathing. When the freezer is empty It works perfectly, if I put the water after 20 yours the water is still warm. Maybe there Is a kind of control system to avoid inproper use of the freezer? Anyone can help?
with the The UV Filtration, can I withstand these type of cold temperatures? or does it depends how cold you go? I'm considering on getting another UV filter off of amazon considering the chest freezer will hold more gallons of water.
I’ve heard that silicone lasts about six months and then starts cracking. I’ve also heard that JB water weld is expensive and time intensive, but it doesn’t crack after six months. Your thoughts?
Hey, thanks for the comment. I think that sounds like something someone selling JB Weld would say. Do some research on silicone, how long is it good for, what environment does it fail in, what kills it fastest. I can tell you right now that if silicone cracked after 6 months, aquariums would be held together with JB Weld and not silicone. JB Weld is labor intensive, and has to be mixed just right, and the people that push it also push the liners they sell, which are $600. If you go with the JB Weld and the liner, you spent more on those components than you did on the freezer, and at that point, just go order an actual Cold Plunge. It's like buying a $5k cover for a $3k car. That's how I view it. Definitely do some research on silicone, it's strong, flexible (less likely to crack than JB Weld), lasts a very very long time (especially when it's not exposed to the sun) and if you prep accordingly, it bonds very well to this specific freezer.
@@Snake_Boi Agreed, heard a lot of stories and 2nd hand reports on fails, but not factual evidence to back anything up. It's not shocking to me to buy a used freezer only for it to fail 6 months later. Water involved or not.
So what's the difference between the ozone and the marine land? Doing the same job? And what different jobs are the green machine doing compared to the marine land? Sorry for the questions but I'm just wondering what I actually need to buy here? The marine land and green machine suffice? Thanks
You don't "need" ozone, but it makes it a lot less difficult to manage the water quality. I'm changing water once a year with a proper filter and ozone protocol.
Depends on the market. I put links to everything I used in my setup. I just checked and the freezer is on sale right now, so probably $800-$900 out the door.
@@Snake_Boi Shouldn't be much more than $50/year by the energy label listed. Unless the lid is constantly left open or some other weird variable i'm not thinking of?
Thank for the comment, it's the freezer doing it's thing (freezing) that chills the water. The freezer moves refrigerant through its main components, expanding and contracting the substance as it travels to absorb and expel heat from the compartment.
I have all the same things and did all the same things in the video but it keeps leaking do you know why. I took the wheels off and have it in the hard floor and keeps leaking. I caulk it with water proof like 5 times. And still it leaks.
@@Snake_Boi thx dumb question the more I think of it:). I was comparing to the proper cold tubs that are meant to be permanently plugged in. Came to my senses:). Thx
Hydrogen peroxide is good to use right after you get out. I'd avoid chlorine though considering how corrosive it is, and that carcinogens it can leave behind.

@@beyondamazing23if you buy new you're not buying someone else's problem. That's how I view these things. Probably only save a couple hundred on a used freezer this size.
@@beyondamazing23 in my experience it hasn't bonded well. You should buy some different products and test a small amount on the areas that will be submerged.
Instead of a shower I just take a bath in the morning with large plastic containers filled with water I froze and just put them back in the freezer when I'm done.
I hope the creator of this video and all the people hitting that like button never realise the terrible trauma a simple idea like this could cause. There’s a reason people had to remove fridge and freezer doors back in the day if they were dumping items like that. Dont be foolish and let kids or even adults near a death trap like this. It’s a low cost suicide box. End of.
Do you leave this comment on videos featuring pools, dogs, cars, bicycles, ovens, washers, dryers, showers, bath tubs, cutlery, firearms, coolers, buckets, beaches, carpentry tools, etc? I ask because children die from these things several times a year. My point is that life itself is dangerous, you should take precautions, try to be as responsible as possible, especially when you have kids. The whole reason I selected this model is because it locks with a key, that's pretty safe. Thanks for the comment, it helps the algorithm and gets me more views.
@@Snake_Boi no I don’t leave comments like that on videos featuring things that are necessary or part of the world we live in. I can’t even think of anything else as daft as this to compare it to but I’m glad you will enjoy your algorithm views and more likes from people with low IQ levels like yourself. Cant wait to see your next invention. What will it be ?? A gun that fires bullets at random? That would be smart. But just remember and take precautions ok 🤯
