Hi Jeff! We're sorry for the confusion as the video doesn't show it clearly, but the thread was already knotted into a ring before putting it through the needle. So you would take the thread, tie the two loose ends together, then put two strands through the eye. You would then secure it to the ornament by pulling it back through the loop as shown at 4:45.
