Instead of Sodium/Potassium Hydroxide you can use a mixture of Salt and Sodium Carbonate(Washing Soda not the Baking Soda) Washing soda it's very Alkaline but will not attack the PLA

Choline chloride and imidizolium chloride make a brilliant deep eutectic solvent electrolyte for rechargable AL batteries 😉 just add some aluminium chloride, carbon and Nickle or titanium electrodes. Works as a plating/de-plating battery.

Hello, do you know where I can find some of those activated carbon you used? I attempted this project, and though it showed 5 volts on the tester, it failed to power the small dynamo. I suspect the purchased carbon may not be authentic, as it felt more like a foam filter. Unfortunately, I couldn't verify if it was genuinely activated carbon when I bought it online.

Great work... Hey is it possible to put one in a vacuum chamber and see if it still works? Based upon what I know about electronegativity you should have .9v of potential difference between carbon and aluminum per cell. Is that what you see in voltage of a single cell?
@cayrex
@cayrex Год назад
The voltage is from 1 to 1.1V per cell
@jonbigman9723
@jonbigman9723 Год назад
@@cayrex Ok.. This is what I was working on before I couldn't work no more. If you can protect the electrodes from the galvanic destruction you should be able to draw current from that potential difference. The problem I had was figuring out what would protect each electrode and still pass a good current. Carbon seems to be the answer. The storage mechanism is the disassembly/reassembly of the electrolyte. Because of quantum tunneling the parts know how to reassemble and give current back.

I have a challenge. I want to use a 20 l plastic bucket and make a battery inside it. You who have a lot of experience can recommend me some material that can be obtained. With about 10 buckets put in series, move an electric car. It's just for testing. I don't know whether to make an aluminum air. Can you recommend any of your videos to follow but on this scale?
@cayrex
@cayrex Год назад
So, you want to run a electric car on aluminium air batteries? Sorry I dont have any videos about that,... jet. For that case is needed to re-design the cell.
@zarpadesignmovilidadydisen243
@@cayrexi mean if you can tell me based on your experience what kind of method I could use to make a battery of that size. Could you recommend me something? I saw videos of people using a 20 liter bucket with charcoal and copper electrodes but from your experience I am asking you if you think it is possible. In the end, who would make the expense would be me. thanks for answering.

Like @nicamarvin already said,.... the electrolyte will spontaneously react with aluminium, especially in KOH electrolyte. The reaction in NaCl electrolyte is much slower and the aluminium will protected himself with oxide layer. For that reason you need to add the electrolyte and aluminium when you will use the battery

Nice, simple architecture and of course very accessible for nearly anyone to DIY their own replica at home. A question if / when you have time to respond...with the air cathode buried within the case, do you think there's any risk of the air cathode in this configuration being starved of oxygen ? Also, and on a different topic altogether...but requesting at some point when you're perhaps trying to figure out what new content to create --> a build demo on your conductive HDPE...I've personally been unable to melt HDPE into a workable enough liquid form to just blend in the conductive materials and then solidify. I've done a few trials myself using a double-sided heater with an hdpe coupon coated with graphite / carbon on both sides which results in the conductive material being concentrated near the surface but so far I've been unable to promote a more fully blended / homogenous material. I'm still experimenting with an ldpe matrix around the conductive material and creating more of a conductive film as well as various methods with hdpe melting / creation of a composite make up but just curious if you're able to share your recipe for conductive HDPE, it would be greatly appreciated. And of course, thanks very much for your continued excellent content !
@cayrex
@cayrex Год назад
Hello. Thank you! About the air cathode that being starved of oxygen,.... not really. And about HDPE is that I dont make my own HDPE,... I buy it. I make some conductive plastic from polystyrene,... but not from HDPE.
