I really appreciate the honesty. I`ve been a trainer at a big box gym for 6 months and I`ve managed to get fully booked in a country town, but I`ve always wondered what the next step would be. I`ve thought about how I could niche down and this was a very timely reminder of what to look for. Love your work! It`s been an incredibly valuable resource for me. Please keep it up!

My main niche is teaching boxing/kickboxing related workouts to clients. Great workout for weight loss, confidence building, and having fun. I offer in-home and virtual options. I'm not as busy as I'd like and I do have a few clients that I work with that aren't in that category but I think it's a good niche, even considering I've been involved in various martial arts for about 28 years now, certified boxing coach, etc. Great video Jeff!

Stick with it! You’ll definitely get fully booked if you’re consistent and make small improvements along the way! I like those niches a lot though! Keep up the good work!

So thankful for this information. I worked for half a year at a gym and nobody taught me any of this stuff, the management just expected trainers to figure this out on their own. I'm so happy I came across this channel so I can be better prepared for my next training gig.

Great eye opening video. I originally wanted to start my business training only athletes but general pop seems like a way more profitable route. Thanks for the red pill!

Haha no problem! You definitely may get some athletes but it’s tough to only rely upon them for income

Another great video with very informative information as always! It was a niche that got me interested in becoming a CPT, along with my own experiences recovering from injuries. Specifically, I'm interested in the barefoot movement and how that affects improving overall mobility up the kinetic chain. Time will tell if I can support myself as a newly certified CPT with this niche. I think that just by adding this to my repertoire as a CPT might make my services more appealing overall. That focus was what prompted me to get certified with NASM as they too are focused on balance, mobility & endurance as a first step training which fit perfectly with my philosophy on training. I just got certified with NASM and now studying at EBFA Global for the Barefoot Training Specialist courses. Before I begin gaining experience, I wanted to have the knowledge of these additional assessments for my clients. Thanks again Jeff!

What do you think of a family focus niche? Right now I have a mom/dad/daughter and also a mom/son. This summer I am looking to go full time after teaching PE for 6 years.
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
I think it could be a good secondary target. You’d probably want a larger target demo, or a demo that’s searching for training more often. For example I train a lot of families, but our main target demographic is middle aged people focused on weight loss.

Should a PT establish a niche in a commercial gym while working as a staff?
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation 11 месяцев назад
This is a “it depends” situation. In a lot of gyms, you might want or need to in order to stand out but that might not be the case in all gyms. If you really like training a special population, it might be worth it to by the guy that trains “x.”

I was thinking about which type of specialization I would be interested in. I'm debating between older popultions, fat loss, and women (which is just what I am 😂). I wanted to shadow a few different trainers before I pay for further specialization. Would that be weird? How long would I ask them to shadow for??
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation 9 месяцев назад
I think shadowing is always a great idea! I would just send a few emails or make phone calls to some local places you might be interested in working, let them know you’re a trainer/becoming one and ask if it would be possible to shadow a trainer. Watching a couple sessions will probably be enough to give you a good idea.

What about corrective exercise niche?

It’s definitely a growing niche. People in more affluent areas seem to be more interested in it on average.

What about a niche in Interval Training?
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
It could work! It all depends on what type of environment you work in!

Been in the gym for six years. I know how important a certificate is but i don't have the funds currently to pay for it.I have written notes from the internet and more so from this channel for so long I feel so ready

It sounds like your heart is in the right place! That being said, I’d definitely recommend getting certified. Even if takes a while to save up for the cert it’ll be worth it. Consider buying the ACE course around Black Friday time. There’s a big discount around there.

I dont think it's a matter of " should we have a niche or not". Specializing can be very helpful when it's needed in certain cases, but I believe being a well- rounded trainer, will be much more beneficial for one's business of training clients, who all might have different goals
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
I agree! Being well rounded should be the top priority for most!
