I saw Karen Gillan at a convention and she told a story from this episode. Matt Smith embarrassed himself while trying to act cool and chat up the model who played the siren.
I was glad when you mentioned how much the Doctor loves Amy and Rory. To me this trio is the best Doctor/Companion relationship. They mean the world to Eleven. Best Doctor Best Companions
Hi thesimpsons17, I think that whenever there have been a male & a female companion with the Dr. it has made it more interesting throughout both Classic & Nu Who. Even when one or the other was only a temporary companion. Sadly, I imagine the budget is why it does not happen more often. But, we can hope !! :)
I honestly feel like Rory was one of the best companions ever. He always called out the Dr and told him how it is. Sometimes the Dr needs to be checked
I'm so happy you loved this episode. It's a little underappreciated, i think. I love the stories where something supernatural gets a scifi science explanation. Sure, there are some iffy bits, some plot convenience, and they REALLY milk the possible death of Rory, but The Siren is really memorable and a great idea. The Doctor is splendid, and the line "We’ve all gotta go sometime. There are worse ways than having your face snogged off by a dodgy mermaid" is a favorite. Also, pirates.
There is a meme for this episode. Captain: The ship is cursed! Doctor: Yeah right cursed, that's big with humans. Something goes bad and you can't be bothered to find an explanation. me: OH MATT I LOVE YOU! XD
Ah - loved your laugh at the Doctor's reaction to finding the Tardis on-board the medical ship. This bodes well for next week :-) - an episode I hope you'll love as much as I do.
WOW!! I was anticipating the Lord Grantham moment, but wasn't expecting such an amazing reaction to the rest of it! I have to say I really love Rory here for his trust in Amy. He believes in her and is willing to put his life in her hands to prove it. I think this was really important for her to know. Overall this episode is perfectly fine. It's a fun if silly or"trippy" addition to the season, with a genuine emotional core to the story. I'm happy you liked it! I'm just so excited that you love this season so far and have real affection for these characters. I freaking loved it! Of course you're the best!! Thank you.
I think this was the episode that was the nail in the coffin for the Amy/Rory ship love that I had. Especially when we thought we lost Rory when Amy was trying to revive him...This is my second favourite ship ever... ...My eyes weren't happy that day...Awesome reaction as usual
Also, just wanted to say thanks for the new format. It makes the reactions much better, and I'm sure it makes editing more difficult. It's appreciated.
I enjoy your reactions! They come straight from your heart and you emote really well! If I were to guess, you seem to relate to the "family" aspect of this particular companions.
It's really enjoyable to watch you loving an episode that didn't exactly resonate with us...I think we would have been more positive but with us fans we feel like we have to wait FOREVER for the next series and I think the waiting sky rockets our expectations. Seeing you enjoy this made me realise this episode was a lot better than I thought it was.
See, this is one of the many, many reasons I love your reactions. You make me look at episodes in a new way and usually appreciate some in ways I didn't before. Like this one. I never really disliked it, but it was always a very middle episode for me, but I started to really love it as I was watching your reaction to it. Just an all around fun character dynamic, between everyone, with some emotional moments. It actually reminds me a bit of early DW audio stories (because I can't get enough of Who, clearly, so I'm branching out into audio dramas) in its structure and character. Lots of fun. :D
I've binge-watched all of these reactions over the last few days and I can't get enough! It's been so cool seeing you go from someone who was kind of "meh" during the first season to someone who is so invested. You've had ME in tears while I've been watching these reactions. :D Subscribed!
After playing Uncharted 4, it's hard for me to reconcile that portrayal of Henry Avery with this one who I hadn't realized until rewatching the ep was supposed to be the same historical pirate, haha. I suppose the character flaw was similar though.
Oh yes! But, is she into Pride and Prejudice & Jane Austin? Knowing the original story makes the viewer appreciate 'Lost in Austin' more when it skews off into another direction, as it often does.
I really enjoyed your reactions to this! i love Amy's pink tights in this episode. i love when the doctor reunites with his tardis, so funny. I like how you said this episode was trippy. haha. omg.... that last scene with rory dying..... puts me in tears every time...
I think this was the first time I've watched one of your reactions almost immediately after rewatching the actual episode itself - I watched it today specially, for the first time since it was originally on back in 2011. I hadn't revisited it since as I didn't enjoy it at the time, but I liked it a lot more on a second viewing, so it was interesting to see that you really liked it on first watch.
Yes, I did find it a lot more fun second time around. I think perhaps at the time I'd been quite disappointed by The Day of the Moon - after having really liked The Impossible Astronaut - so I'd been hoping for something really good to get the series back on track, and hadn't found this to be it. But taken in isolation it's an enjoyable episode.
"I know you'll never give up." Annnnnd then she gives up. 😁 But no, I love this episode. I don't know why everyone hates it and loves the first two-parter.
Next weeks episode, "The Doctor's Wife" is my second favorite of Season 6, behind only "The Girl Who Waited". No spoilers, but this is the first New Who episode that really delves into this part of the shows lore.
I've always loved this episode, it's so underrated! Probably because it's stuck in between some awesome episodes, but I've always thought this story was so sweet. I remember genuinely thinking Rory had died again when first watching, so that scene is always emotional to me. Looking forward to the next one, I'm not sure what you'll think of it but I hope you'll like it, it's one of my favourites from this series.
Hi Sesska, Your delight @ seeing an actor you know @ 0.21, took me by surprise. :) The famous last words you uttered @ 2.27 should have been aimed @ Rory, as you have noticed by now, he seems to have a particular tendency. (Not sure, if it was meant to be a form of Kudos to a particular show`s writers or not. (As there have been other`s.)) At 2.58, Amy discovers what the lack of info in a Dr.Who episode can lead to, in the most serious way. At 3.20, you learned the danger of drinking beverages while watching this program. At 3.34, as usual the Dr. does not quite react the same as the humans do. At 4.21, seems to be a nod to historical references of ships being lured on to rocks by mermaids/Sirens by their song. (released just after this episode, P.O.T.Caribbean : On St.Tides also covered this) At 7.24, first sign that it is not just loss of blood that attracts her. At 7.59, oh !! Dr. you are the 11th & yet you have still not learnt pride comes before a fall. At 10.15, the 11th copies the 9th Lol :) At 12.49, your reaction caught me off-guard again. :) So at 13.36, it seems aliens picked up on the sailor`s superstitions. Unlike S.T.Voyager, she does not ask "What is the nature of your medical emergency ?", just notes that she has spot..ted one, no X needed !! At 14.16, remember Rose & Sarah-Jane`s discussion in School Reunion. :) Glad you seem to be having the same feeling about the Dr.`s journey as the rest of us, Sesska. :) Several Whovians have remarked on YT, that it has helped them in their real lives, if only as a form of escapism. I hope things are somewhat better for you now !! Looking forward to 6x04, your reactions should be priceless, IMO. :)
If you like this, there is no hope for you, you're a confirmed Moffat/ Eleven fan! Of course, the guest star helps. If only we could get Steven Yeun or Andrew Lincoln on an episode. Or Micky. Or Monkeys. Or all of them...
I saw your tweet today that someone gave you a huge spoiler. I'm not sure what spoiler they said, and I'm upset that it happened. But I'm sure you will still enjoy things that are to come.
Great reaction! This is one of the few weak episodes of the series, and since you enjoyed it I think you're in for a treat! Next week is even better and emotional! Hopefully you'll love it
I have a special request for Sesskasays for the upcoming 7th episode, "A Good Man Goes To War": To please save all PiP 10 minutes for the very last 10 minutes of that episode reaction. I really need to see the whole last 10 minutes reaction from her!!
That won't happen, the clip is on youtube under the BBC, or atleast the last 4 mins is. Doesn't mean she won't include her reaction though. She's doing a full reaction to that episode for her top tier on Patreon :)
Yeah unfortunately I can't really decide when the PiP happens. It needs to be under ten minutes and if I include some scenes (normally the bigger scenes) the whole reaction gets blocked worldwide.
This episode isn't one of my favorites, so I've only seen it maybe twice, but I did enjoy it the first time around. I agree wholeheartedly about Hugh Bonneville. I miss Downton so much. I enjoyed his guest spots on the now cancelled medieval musical comedy Galavant. If you haven't seen it I would suggest at least checking out Hugh's scenes. He was my favorite guest star. Also, I just wanted to mention, when the nurse program turns red it reminds me of Drusilla from Buffy. I don't know if anyone else thought that.
sesskasays I get that. It was such a great show with a phenomenal cast. I've watched other similar shows to try to fill that void but nothing quite compares.
The logic of this episode: 1) Putting on a pirate coat and picking up a sword gives you swashbuckling abilities. 2) "Throw the gun down" - Because swords apparently beat guns. 3) The Siren instantly teleports you... unless it's off-screen in which case it undoes the anaesthetic and scares you first so that you scream. 4) When trying to resuscitate someone, there is a 30 second delay of response from the time you stop (I counted). - Also, note the irony considering Rory said "I know you'll never give up". I think there's a really good underlying story in this episode but it's poorly done (for more than the above reasons).
Season 6 is my favorite season of the show since the reboot, but this particular episode I found to be mostly just fille ... oh, well apparently you're a big fan of this one's guest star, so maybe it'll go over better. =)
I'm a big fan of Season 10 again as well so far. It's Seasons 8 and 9 where I feel the series falls into some problems that they only recently recovered from.
Funny, thought 8 and 9 were great. 10 has caused me to stop watching the show completely it is so utterly terrible. Politically correct, leftist agenda driven, inane drivel.
+Dan Brown If you don't want left-leaning messages in your Television.... I am surprised you managed to get through a single *Series* of _Doctor Who_, let alone 8.
There is liberal and there is out and out in your face libtard. As a classical liberal I have no issue with liberal messages within a story line but that is entirely different to having political correctness rammed down your throat to the detriment of a story.
Sesska watch this >> A children's television competition that was set up a few months before the next episode for children to draw up and design a prominent prop that will feature in the next story... it isn't in any way spoilery as it give no relevance to plot or story. >> m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-64jFUOWP1hs.html
I love the long association with children's television programme 'Blue Peter' and Doctor Who and the competitions they have. The 12 year old girl winning this DW design competition must have been delighted to see her creation built for 'The Doctors Wife' and to have it also made as a toy playset for the figures too. Amazing thanks for the RU-vid video link! :)
That one wasn't my favorite, but that's just my opinion and it doesn't really matter. Bonneville is good in anything he does and it started well, but the third act didn't work for me. But if you loved it, that's great. Next week's is one of my favorites, written by the great man himself Neil Gaiman. Funny, touching, exciting and explores of interesting things about the Doctor. I think I'll put it on right now. See you next Friday.
I think it suffers from the really not very convincing or tension filled near-death of Rory - other than that it's quite a nice little stand-alone ep. Though still not really sure why the 'nurse' programme looks like a vampy mermaid.
'Why is it always Rory?' - I mean, that's a fair question, but I do remember you asking 'why is it always Amy?' in a previous episode when she was taken by the Silurians, so...
Season 6 has a rather bizarre structure which is a big reason why it's so divisive. Episodes 1-2, 7-8 & 13 follow the arguably most intriguing ongoing narrative (the Silence arc) so far, but the stories in between have little to nothing to do with it (that is not to say they are all bad - I'm actually fond of most of them & adore Amy's character development) & can be considered filler-ish since the "main story" is so, let's say, strong. That is, I believe the biggest problem: strong ongoing plot + tons of filler doesn't usually equal amazing result
A very weak episode but the show was always hit n miss. Unfortunately series 10 is miss and miss, despite good actors, to the point I'm no longer watching the show. Thankfully still a few seasons of reactions to go before then.
