Does Games Workshop Hate me? Age of Sigmar range slaughter! 

It’s ok they don’t hate you , at least not you personally. They hate any and everyone who won’t just toss away their old minis for whole new armies every couple years. So they pretty much hate us all. They do love our money however.

I got out of GW games 3 years ago and RU-vid still recommends me GW related videos from time to time and it's always some guy saying, 'Oh, GW did this bad thing (which they've done plenty of times before) but I'll still check out the next edition.' It's just sad. How many times does your spouse have to hit you before you leave?

My Imperial Guard army (shows you how old I am!) still sports Schaeffer's Last Chancers. That set came out in the 1990's and disappeared editions ago. They still get a lot of use in my army. Schaeffer himself has been used in a lot of ways. This miniature is a commanding looking fellow in armor carrying a plasma pistol and a power sword. That combination is quite legal in 10th Edition, so right now he's a Cadian Castellan or an Officer depending on how I pay for him. I use the other Last Chancers as opportunities appear (members of infantry squads, command squad veterans, etc) and I've never gotten any guff from anyone about fielding them. I'd do the same if I were you. I even remember GW in a White Dwarf saying that it's quite fine to substitute models for others saying "counts as". As long as the model reflects the data sheet you're using then you're good.

I’m not buying a starter box, I’m not buying any army books (hello, Wahapedia), and I’m just going to use my existing stormcasts to counts-as whatever new units come out. There will be cavalry, heavy infantry, ranged guys, etc. If the new ranged guys are slimmed down with crossbows, just use your archers. No one will complain.

The simple answer is YES! YES, they do hate you......but they love your money.

They did EXACTLY the same when they killed off Epic. No notice, no grace period, just gone. It was was utter BS and the reason I walked away from GW. GW will keep doing this so long as there are enough people that keep buying stuff and enabling this behaviour

Use them in One Page Rules. That's what I'm going to do. I have a huge collection of Stormcast Eternals. I think I'm done with Age of Sigmar and 40K at this point. Tired of having to buy new editions of everything at 3 years intervals just so GW/Warhammer can please their stock holders.

Re-base them for kings of war 😊 that's what I'm doing with mi e

I still Oldhammer with WFB 3rd, 6th and 8th edition.. I also play 1rst edition Rogue Trader.. You don't have to play with the newest rules etc, welcome to the club 😂.. also look at One Page Rules nudge nudge.. Games Workshop is no longer needed

I'm glad I gave up on GW games and got rid of my models years ago. Was thinking of trying Old World, but have no faith in GW, so will give it a miss.

I don't understand. You say that you're disappointed about GW... but you also say that you gonna buy and give a shot to the next edition of age of sigmar... If you really are disappointed you should try another game, that let you play with the mini you like! You really should check out One Page Rules stuff, especially if you're a casual player! It's a really great game, mini agnostic, where you could play with your WHOLE army of Stormcasts... and it's mostly free, with a great free app to create your armies... I personnaly stopped GW games a while ago, because of this kind of behavior. We should not forgive and forget this kind of insult to the community. I'm really happy right now with all the other games in the market. (Infinity, One page Rules, Mars: Code Aurora, Rangers of Shadow Deep, Stargrave, Frostgrave, Turnip28... etc...)

The free pdf is the scythe of the reaper that is Games Workshop. Even though i wouldnt touch AoS ever again if they paid me, seeing your nice collection really makes me feel for you.

Discontinuing Sacrosanct feels like Discontinuing Phobos or Gravis Marines

Never fun when this happens but this isn't the first time GW has done this sort of thing and it won't be the last. It seems like your AoS play is pretty casual, so you could always just play with the old rules and still enjoy the game and collection. That's what my small gaming group does. We play with the old rules for 40K and now we'll use the old rules for AoS. We have no interest in tournament play or having/using the latest and greatest (...and pricey) GW stuff. The added benefit is that there will likely be cheap models appearing on the used market to add to your existing collection.

I gave up on GW a while ago. Increasing prices and the change in rules and books every three years became too much. I suggest you look into One Page Rules. I have found that I have also come to hate "I go you go" game systems and I even use Bolt Action activation dice for FoW. I am not interested in tournament play anyway. If GW does something that you hate then change rule systems and continue to use your favorite models. Why continue to be disappointed?

Agreed, this announcement also killed my enthusiasm off for 4th edition. I hope to be able to still play with the old edition or proxy my models. You can still play 3rd edition when your friends visit but it’s still saddening a bit

GW wouldn't have had to gut the Stormcast range if they hadn't over-egged it so badly to begin with. It was greed that led to the bloated range and greed again that led to its culling.

It's been 15 years since I played at tabletop game. But I still continue to collect miniatures and read books. I think that this is a healthier hobby than chasing sports meta.🌠

So for BoC and Bonesplittas, their whole range is gone. The armies will no longer be valid for AoS.

If I put on my tin foil hat, it might be that they are testing this out in AoS before doing the same thing with Space Marines. I say this because they did a whole model refresh going from Warhammer Fantasy Battle to AoS and caught backlash. Then in 40K they then slowly introduced Primaris alongside ‘first born’ gradually phasing the older minis out. So my theory is that they are wanting to cut down on the Space Marine range all at once but seeing if they can get away with it in AoS first. But that’s just a theory… a games workshop theory.

it takes like 5 pages to keep these old models in the codex. its just a slap in the face.

I discovered the game Warlords of Erehwon. This is a great game without the GW confusion.

Don't waste your money on GW if they disappoint you so much. Start looking into what other games and minis are out there. GW is only important to the hobby because people have been conditioned into believing that they are.

I started a Beasts of Chaos army and have slowly been growing the army over years. This was a big shock to me.. what's to say if I start a new army, that the new army won't get discontinued too? I honestly don't know what to do... whether to keep on painting my beasts of chaos or give in... is it a waste of time? Very sad.

My bet is that all the first edition models will be re made, such as the liberators, and I'm betting the prosecutors will have real wings like the lady from the 3rd ed starter box

Some, like Liberators, are just being replaced with newer models which I think is just fine. Some, like Judicators and Prosecutors, are being taken out of the game. For Judicators there's that newer troop type that was also archers so I can see the overlap... but prosecutors? Their "angel" style was IMHO key to the Stormcast aesthetics. And yeah, download and store those files as soon as they come up. They're never going to be updated anyway and no one knows how long they'll stay up...

This is one reason why I will not be playing or purchases any new figures from Games Workshop. Besides for slashing some good lines, and the prices (mostly in US) has skyrocket in past couple of years. Unlike other miniatures companies they allow the old figures to be use in new version of the rules. So good bye to AOS.

The only way you cannot use those models is if you go to official GW events so just don’t go to official GW events download the worst girls and you use them however you want to remember battlefront did the same thing to a lot of its line during version 4 and everybody bitched about that one too

Don’t be sad. Keep your minis and play „SAGA - Age of Magic“ The rules are better and you can use every miniatures you like. We changed 4 years ago from Fantasy/AoS to Saga and it was the best desicion ever. All the best from Germany! (Ps: i like your Team Yankee battlereports the most)

It's justifications like this and the oh well I guess I'll carry on mentality that lets GW do this and just keep getting away with it. GW squated Warhammer Fantasy on me after I had invested thousands into it, they squated my first born Dark Angels after having invested thousands into it and they reworked killteam 2.0 so none of my five painted 1.0 kill teams were valid so I'm done with them. I bought myself a 3D resin printer and GW is never going to see another dime from my wallet ever again. The only way they're going to wake up and change is if we hit them where it hurts, their bottom line and that's never going to happens when every time they slight the player base like this we just take it on the chin and carry on giving them our hard earned money.

Having a fully legend army sucks , but l wonder what sollutions to it can exist. I hope there will be sword&shield liberators , my secutors could be those. Some heroes probably will fit as something. But l have no idea what to do with my 15 evocators , my mounted evocators etc.

Doesn't go to legends until Summer 2025. They will have rules for 4th edition, most of it can be "counts as" something else. I think Sacrosanct will return as Thunderstrike one day.

I hear you John … but this sounds like GW doing GW things … It’s the reason I left it in 2016 … I found FOW and TANKS and said See Ya to GW … I had been deep in the hobby since 1997 … Battlefront is just more friendly to their customers in prices and not discontinuing models

I really wanted to keep up with Sigmar and started building Kharadron and Lumineth armies but can no longer afford the prices. If I did start collecting those armies again I’d probably just use them for Dragon Rampant or a similar set of generic fantasy rules

GW is example of company that doesn't care about you, but it doesn't mean you shouldn't care about your work, you have put in into your miniatures. I also have Sacrosanct, and old Liberators, and I'm gonna keep using them because I worked hard on them. If they say you can't use them in new edition, then I just won't touch new edition and stick to old ones

GW loves you. it's just that they live your wallet more. I believe several units will get some new version. Just proxy and mix new with old if you don't play competively. The old minis hasn't fallen yet on the battlefield and thus not received the new equipment 🙂 You could look if it is possible to convert some of the old minis once we have seen the complete refresh. Maybe a bigger rock, some greenstuff in the waist and trimming some edges can give them new life in the army.

First mistake: believing in GW Second mistake: thinking that you can't not care about the current state of their game and play the version you like with the miniature you like.

They don't sell, most people don't play with them... I get NOT selling the models anymore..... But not writing rules for them? Yeah that to me is an insult to injury

The culling was the cause of bad karma being accumulated by spiteful AoS players who enjoyed the end of the Old World. Now the tables have turned and WE enjoy your suffering.

I was quite annoyed at first, but most the Stormcast models can be used as proxies or in some cases are simply getting newer versions (so can still be used). The Beasts and Bonesplittaz seem like a lot of wasted potentual. A lot could have been done with those factions. Seems like a shame to abandon them.

Does GW hate everyone for not just turning over our paychecks? Yes.

You might still be able to use them as different Stormcast units that remain in the range. A local player will be using his Beast of chaos models as Slaves to Darkness models instead. There are creative ways around this debacle.

Honstly the only thing I ever liked about AOS was the classic sigmarines... Not these new dudes straight out of Fallout wasteland warfare. Like they don't look high fantasy no, near arcanepunk to me but near future sci-fi. Like if they wanted ground marines here they are! Coming to a battlefield near you to fight in the proxies was of 20XXAD! Aklso they looked unique and new and fresh now they are... generic grounded sci-fi power armor dudes... Like GW you now have my money when these guys go on deep discount/become used lots congrats!

Between their terrible rules, their rampant price-gouging and their systematically invalidating significant parts of people's collection in the name of corporate greed, it's just not worth supporting them anymore. 40K and Fantasy got me into tabletop wargames in 2008, but they haven't had a game worth playing for a while. It's just not worth trying to keep up when there are better and cheaper games to be played that are made by actual game designers and not just a marketing team trying to get as much money from a gamer as possible before forcing them to spend hundreds more to even stay active, let alone competitive.

At a company level i can understand it you want your custemer to buy new stuff, as a hobbyist i am ver dissapointed. I have the same chamber as you do so my army is trown out of the window we can only play with them in casual games with friends with those pdf's.

Warhammer players should have boycotted Age of Sigmar for what it did to the Old World. But they didn't and now the same thing is happening again. I'm neither surprised, nor do I have any sympathy for AoS players.

Don't buy the books, 3d print the minis, don't play official GW events.

I think the 'rant' being measured and understanding as well as heartfelt is well earned and not unwelcome. I came in second edition and enjoy my painted starter box but they were always display over game pieces to me. I appreciate GWs willingness to risk ire to pare down their tide of plastic just a little. I would have split firstborn space marines into their own codex a long time ago

This nonsense is why 3d printing proxies and playing older rule sets is growing in popularity within smaller casual play groups. It's just hard for casual players to continue playing when every 3 years you have to brace yourself for a ton of your collection being invalidated from play, after spending money and time on it. 😞

Warhammer - is the best thing in the world. Games Workshop - is the worst corporation in the world. Those people are crazy who are happy that their neighbor's house burned down and who think that this will not affect them: in the new 40k Ork codex, all the legendary resin characters have already been removed. It is quite obvious that sooner or later "restructuring" will occur in ToW or HH because Games Workshop is also doing this.

I'm always disgusted when people say I get it. How long Have we been getting it. When they destroyed the old world after gutting it for years, people got it. When they introduced primaris to invalidate the complete old space marine range, people told the same. When GW changed many times the bases miniatures had to be on, people were getting it too. Please stop relying on GW rules and use other game systems, be free.

Of course Games Workshop hates you. They hate all of their customers. Antipathy or animosity is insufficient for their business strategy; nothing short of contempt will do. Sadly, too many players eat up the abuse and ask for more, and they will fervently defend their abuser. Everything's there except for them saying "I can change them! I can make GW love me!"

GW doesn't see players. It sees potential payers. If you're not paying currently you're of no value.

I hear this all over on youtube. In reality, what they are doing is good: 1 Games workshop is a company, not your friend 2 If a company looses money, they will sooner or later have to shut down their operations 3 If Games workshop shuts down, all GW miniature games will stop developing 4 Games workshop makes money by selling new miniatures. Changing the miniature ranges, and the fractions, will increase sales

It can’t bother you that much, you’ve barely painted half of them and they’re covered in dust so I doubt you were actually using them much.

I would never trust a company that does what Gw did to Warhammer Fantasy... But the soloution is simple and nice. Play older editions.. I love WHFB 6th Ed, everything is there, rules... Easy. Now we have The Old World too, which is okay. But the best part is getting the 6th Ed models...

I just lost half my Stormcast army with the latest bullshit. 6 year old models (sacrosanct range) just gone….
