Does God Support Polygamy?
What do Abraham, Jacob, Esau, David, and Solomon have in common? All of these great men of God had multiple wives. So, does God support polygamy? That’s the question we want to answer today on the B.E.A.T.
INTRODUCTION: Hey what’s up everybody my name is Allen Parr and so the question comes up, “Did God permit Polygamy?” This is a tricky question and one that needs to answered carefully Well there’s actually one verse in the OT that seems to CLEARLY suggest He did (Deut. 21:17). So, in this video I want to look at 1) some of the REASONS why some men had multiple wives; 2) the RESULTS of those decisions and then finally 3) the RELEVANCE for us today.
1. Men had multiple wives for a variety of reasons
a. Barrenness - Sometimes it was because their wife was unable to have children and further the family lineage.
b. Protection for Women - Other times they were providing protection for women because due to many men dying in war there was a disproportionate number of women to men and women were unable to provide for themselves so men would step up and take extra wives to provide support and covering (sadly women were often forced into prostitution to provide for themselves)
i. Deut. 25:5 - There is even a scripture that encourages a man to marry his brother’s wife if the brother died without children.
ii. And so the idea here is do you become a polygamist or do you force that woman to possibly become a prostitute?
c. Alliances - Sometimes it was to forge alliances with other nations and so kings would trade wives to secure the partnership.
d. Greed - Other times men like David chose to take on wives for selfish reasons.
e. But even though, interestingly enough on one occasion God says to David, “Why did you have to go and steal someone else’s wife? If the ones you had weren’t enough I would have given you more…” (Is God condoning polygamy?)
2. The RESULTS of Polygamy
a. Whether it’s a sin or not, interestingly, each time a man took on more than one wife in the Bible it created major problems and divided the home.
b. We can look at Abraham and his two wives, Jacob and his 2 wives + 2 concubines, we can look at the situation between Hannah and Peninnah which was an absolute nightmare, David and his wives and Solomon’s heart turned away from God because of his 700 wives.
3. The RELEVANCE for us today
a. God Established His institution of marriage at creation - The Law of First Mention - God’s design for marriage is very clear and is outlined in both the OT and the NT. In Gen. 2 God says, “And the TWO shall become ONE.” Jesus then confirms this in the NT (Paul says the same thing about church leaders needing to be “the husband of ONE wife.” (see also Eph. 5:22-33 and Col. 3:18-19)) where He repeats the very same scripture found in the OT. So anything outside of God’s original design cannot be His perfect will.
b. Don’t confuse God’s PERMISSIVE will with His PERFECT will - There are many things He allowed but doesn’t desire.
c. Don’t take something that God is DESCRIBING and interpret it as God PRESCRIBING it - David cursed his enemies in prayer does that mean we should do it? When interpreting the Bible be careful not to take isolated events and then make them normative for every believer (poison, snakes, etc.) Does that mean that because it worked for them we should do it?
d. Just like God blesses and uses us despite our many sins in the same way God was patient to bless many men in the OT who took multiple wives. So instead of asking, “Why or how could a holy God bless someone like that?” Instead ask, “How could God overlook some of the stuff that I’ve done and still bless me in spite of what I do?
So did God allow polygamy for various reasons in the OT? I think we have to safely say that He did. But has that ever been God’s perfect will for a marriage relationship? I think we can safely say NO.

I love the message at the end, yes instead of looking at how Heavenly Father overlooked their act and used them in a bless way, we should be grateful to know that as long as we ask to be filled by the Holy Spirit, Heavenly Father will work through us despite our daily sins. If we only knew how much we sin on a daily basics we would thrive more to be Christ like and not thrive to look for ways to use the Bible to feed our carnal- animal desires. Only Heavenly Father can gives us true guidance, most men nowadays wants polygamy but they are not asking for it because that was the message they receive from the Creator for their lives ! Thank you so much for sharing this message that i receive in an objectif way and not subjectively. Much blessings to you. Merci d exister (French)!

God didn't "overlook" polygamy, he allowed it/endorsed it, which means it wasn't a sin, for sin as scripture states is transgression of Gods law. NOWHERE in scripture is the allowance ever repealed, men do now what the pharisees did then, make up laws and put yolks around mens necks where God didn't. God bless.

Regardless of the reasons, if something is a sin, it is a sin. Polygamy was NEVER condemned as sin, and they were actual suggestions that it was condoned, , hence, the clear exception to religious leader that, He must be a husband of ONE wife. Before you are quick to say, well, aren't we all leaders, The bible also warns not everyone should assume to be a leader "Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly." Polygamy was never part of God’s perfect plan. It was a man and a woman. Hence why Adam had Eve. God would’ve blessed Adam with multiple women if he wanted polygamy. Polygamy comes from the lust and sinful nature us humans have. There are implied sins it doesn’t have to be said word for word in the Bible. The Bible clearly explains that in marriage it’s one man and one woman. Not man and man nor woman and woman. Or either man and multiple women or a women with multiple men.

But lack of disapproval in the face of copious instances mentioned, sort of kind of INDICATES approval. Commanding polygyny in some instances IMPLIES approval. Indicating that God IS a polygamist, and telling a parable about the groom coming for more than one virgin, where the groom is a resemblance of Christ, PROVES approval. God declaring that a man who intends to take a second wife, does so in the integrity of his heart, is EXPLICIT approval. God giving the wives of David's master into his bosom, is DOWNRIGHT, approval! That is the truth. May the Lord lead you into the truth that you think you have already found.

Daniel DeLuca Fornication and adultery are synonymous when talking about biblical texts. Both are sexual interactions between individuals who are not married to each other. Fornication generally to sexual interactions prior to getting married. Adultery generally refers to those after one is already is married. However, both involved individuals having sex with people they are not married to. In this way, they are synonymous.

Where does God tolerate incest, (unlawful) stoning, murder (when the 10 commandments explicitly says thou shalt not murder?), slavery (God delivered Israel from being slaves in Egypt)? War is not always bad: if the enemy comes and attacks your country, you will have to defend it. But there is never war without evil: one side or both sides are evil. But if one side is good, and is fighting for righteousness sake (e.g. Jehoshaphat, although he didn't fight), there is no sin there. If you have actual questions, and are not just trying to pick a fight against the Bible, then perhaps I can help resolve your supposed contradictions.

Good video! I would have to say the crux of the argument, as you laid it out, is the law of first mention (as well as a secondary 'whenever it is mentioned it is not in a positive light'). As for the law of first mention, to use that as a primary reason in the way it is here, one could make an argument that because marriage is between one man and one woman, a person could not remarry after the death of a spouse because they were already married once (Genesis 1-2), which is unbiblical. I wouldn't hinge the answer to this on either reason given here. However, I do like the fact that he is tackling the issue and making people think.
@glennbraunstein6702
@glennbraunstein6702 2 года назад
The first mention of marriage is between Adam and Eve. It could be said that Adam married ALL the available women. This argument is a false argument by someone who has not done a deep study of the Word of God. He treats the issue superficially and without regard for the meaning of the words as they were meant by the writers.
@ChristopherColegrove1983
@ChristopherColegrove1983 2 года назад
@@glennbraunstein6702 Good point. Adam did marry ALL the available women. That's one more reason why Genesis 1-2 can't be used - in my opinion - to deny polygyny or mandate monogamy. As for Jesus in the Gospels harkening back to the creation, the point Jesus made in referencing back to it had to do with divorce, not even broaching the subject of plural wives. I wish people who wish to argue against this topic would stop using this as a rationale.
@RearviewWisdom
@RearviewWisdom 2 года назад
@@ChristopherColegrove1983 Excellent points ! I am yet to hear valid explanations for any of what you've suggested. There seems to be confusion in differentiating polygamy, fornication, and adultery. Adultery and sex outside of marriage VIOLATES spiritual law and covenant. It is why Paul said the marriage bed is undefiled and goes on to mention adulterous and whoremongers being condemned (which is a common theme in scripture). Scripture emphasizes our COMMITMENT to the established covenant of marriage with GOD and then our spouses. So one has to argue the terms of marriage covenant and not only who gets to participate based on scripture. It's interesting how the argument becomes so liberal when discussing remarriage even though the Bible clearly constitutes this as a breech and violation of covenant.
@danieldeluca4936
@danieldeluca4936 Год назад
@@RearviewWisdom Well, the only condemnation for remarriage, is when the wife is the one who was divorced. It never says that it is adultery to marry a man who is divorced, unless the man initiates the divorce with a wife who had not committed fornication! Even the language in the original Greek calls that interpretation into question.
@JamesYoderIII
@JamesYoderIII 5 лет назад
Why does God give rules if polygyny - the marrying of more than one wife - is a sin? Why did God not call this sin and tell everyone to not do this? But instead God gave a rule. 15 If a man have two wives, one beloved, and another hated, and they have born him children, both the beloved and the hated; and if the firstborn son be hers that was hated: 16 Then it shall be, when he maketh his sons to inherit that which he hath, that he may not make the son of the beloved firstborn before the son of the hated, which is indeed the firstborn: 17 But he shall acknowledge the son of the hated for the firstborn, by giving him a double portion of all that he hath: for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn is his. Deuteronomy 21:15-17 King James Version (KJV) If polygyny is sin then why did God tell men - her husband's brother to take her as a wife and to perform the duty of an husband's brother unto her? Does not sound like Sin and it is Prescribed and not Described. 5 If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a stranger: her husband's brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband's brother unto her. Deuteronomy 25:5 King James Version (KJV) And God killed Onan for not doing this. 9 And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother. 10 And the thing which he did displeased the Lord: wherefore he slew him also. Genesis 38:9-10 King James Version (KJV) This is not about masterbation like the Catholic Church likes to teach. This is about Onan not getting his brother's wife pregnant by spilling his seed on the ground so that he would not give seed to his brother. Onan did this because he knew that the seed would not be his. This was disobeying God and God killed him. God Instituted a law here that could constitute polygyny . . . If the brother was already married he still had to marry his brother's wife. That does not sound like Gods's Permissive Will! Maybe that sounds more like His Perfect Will. That, also, sounds more like Prescribed than Described. You ask, "Which is worse? Polygamy for the man. Prostitution For the woman." First Polyamy is the wrong word. Polygamy also allows women to have multiple husbands called Polyandry which is definitely not allowed in the bible. That is sin. It is adultery. 2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. 3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man. Romans 7:2-3 King James Version (KJV) So Polyandry is the sin of Adultery. Now corrected you ask, "Which is worse? Polygyny for the man. Prostitution For the woman." This premis is all wrong. Polygyny prevents Prostitution for the woman. If all the women who want to be married are married then that will leave very few if any women for prostitution. I am not saying it will end all prostitiution. I am only saying it will help prevent it. This is better than what is currently not working. It is legalized in some states. 3 And Solomon made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh's daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of the Lord, and the wall of Jerusalem round about. 1 Kings 3:1 King James Version (KJV) King Solomon's Sin was marrying strange women that turned his heart away from God. These strange women worshiped with other strange gods. So again nothing was said against polygyny once again. Greed?? You said it was greed that caused men to marry many wives. God, Jesus or the Bible did not say that. You cannot find that anywhere in God's word. If you are going to say something like this please back it up with scripture. This is pure nonsense. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 2 Timothy 3:16 King James Version (KJV) Abraham - Genesis - Hagars contempt for Sarai and Pride were the sins. 5 And Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong be upon thee: I have given my maid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the Lord judge between me and thee. Genesis 16:5 King James Version (KJV) Contempt for a human being is an affront to God almost as grave as idolatry. Contempt is disrespect for the being He made in His own image. Hagar the handmaid/slave had contempt for Sarai giving her no worth. She attached to Sarai no value whatsoever. A person guilty of appraising a human being of this is thoroughly bad; and for a number of reasons. Contempt is an emotion possible only where there is great pride. The error in moral judgment that undervalues another always springs out of the error that overvalues oneself. The contemptuous man (in this case the woman Hagar) esteems herself too highly for reasons that are invalid. Her high opinion of herself is not based upon her position as a being made in God's image; she esteems himself for fancied virtues which she does not possess. She is wrong in her attitude toward herself and doubly wrong in her estimation of her fellow man. The error in her judgment is moral, not intellectual. Hagar felt she was above Sarai. One cannot avoid rendering moral judgment on the deeds of men; and, indeed, she is accountable to do so. One must reverence the humanity of every man, however degraded, out of appreciation for his divine origin. No one for whom Christ died can be common or worthless. Humanity itself must be honored as the garment assumed by the Eternal Son in the Incarnation. To esteem anyone worthless who wears the form of a man is to be guilty of an affront to the Son of Man. We should hate sin in ourselves and in all men, but we should never undervalue the man or woman in whom the sin is found. 9 And the angel of the Lord said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands. Genesis 16:9 King James Version (KJV) God through an Angel told Hagar to return to her Polygynous family. If that were sin God would have struck down that evil family and blessed her and then to help her get away from those evil people. BUT this is not what happened. God sent her back to her family. God said nothing about polygyny being a sin. It would have been a great opportunity. Jacob - Genesis 34 - Shechem's sin was at best fornication at worst the Rape of Dinah. But because he took her I think it was rape. Shechem Hamor's son an Hivite, uncircumcised meaning a nonbeliever raped Dinah the daughter of Leah and Jacob. 2 And when Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of the country, saw her, he took her, and lay with her, and defiled her. Genesis 34:2 King James Version (KJV) 14 And they said unto them, We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one that is uncircumcised; for that were a reproach unto us: Genesis 34:14 King James Version (KJV) They became the Seven Enemies of Israel in the Promised Land. They included the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. Esau married a Hivite which griefed Issac and Rebekah. 34 And Esau was forty years old when he took to wife Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Bashemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite: 35 Which were a grief of mind unto Isaac and to Rebekah. Genesis 26:34-35 King James Version (KJV) This is another reason why Dinah an Israelite could not marry the Hivites besides being raped. Elkanah - 1 Samuel 1 - Peninnah's sin was not loving Hannah. There were two wives Hannah and Peninnah (1 Samuel 1:2). Hannah did not have children at first. Hannah prayed and said she wanted a male child and she would give him unto the Lord all the days of his life (1 Samuel 1:11). She bare a son Samuel (1 Samuel 1:20). Peninnah did not treat Hannah with love - Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Hannah had a sorrowful spirit (1 Samuel 1:15) and fret (1 Samuel 1:6), wept and grieved (1 Samuel 1:7-8) because she wanted a male child. Hannah's sorrowful spirit was made worse because of Peninnah's sin (1 Samuel 1:6). 21 He evil entreateth the barren that beareth not: and doeth not good to the widow. Job 24:21 King James Version (KJV) 13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. 14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 15 But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. Galatians 5:13-15 King James Version (KJV) 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23 King James Version (KJV) 8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. Romans 13:8 King James Version (KJV) 9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. Romans 13:9-10 King James Version (KJV) 36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment.

Why was polygamy allowed? Marriage was to be a lasting bond between two persons. (Matthew 19:5) By the time God organized the Israelites into a nation and gave them the Law, polygamy had become a common practice. Thus, though God didn’t originate polygamy, he provided laws to regulate it. When the Christian congregation was formed, God’s Word clearly prohibited polygamy! (1Timothy 3:2) God tolerated certain things until his time to correct them. (Romans 9:22-24) Jesus showed that God had temporarily tolerated improper marriage customs as a “concession” made out of regard for Israel’s “hardheartedness.” (Matthew 19:8; Proverbs 4:18)

Deuteronomy 25:5-6 commands polygamy if a man already has a wife. God is concerned about our heart towards him and in relationships love (Gen. 29:31-32; Eph. 5:28). We read that king David had many wives (2 Sam. 5:13) and still “walked in his ways, to do that which is right in [his] eyes” (1 Kings 11:33) and had a perfect heart with the Lord (1 Kings 15:3) except in one matter (1 Kings 15:5). And aside from Bathsheba, no stated issues arised stemming from him having many wives. In Deuteronomy 17:17, the reason a king may not take on “many” wives is “lest [their] heart turn away.” And the exact amount is not specified. In 2 Chronicles 24:2-3 we also see another king who did what was right in the Lord’s eyes who had two wives chosen for him by a priest. Lastly, in Moses day, they were already abiding by the "one flesh" principle (Deut. 8:3) but this didn't mean you couldn't be married in the sight of the Lord with two wives (Deut. 21:15).

Law of first prove all these things to be evil! Children because of cain and abel. Wives are evil cause she lead him into sin. Snakes are evil for temting eve. Knowledge is evil cause of the laws of first, farming is evil because of cain, music, metalwork and animal husbandry because of lamechs sons. This is amazingly bad logic and horrible Hermeneutics. Stop talking now please. Law of firsts what a joke. You need some discernment. I also see people talking about wisedom on these comments, God is the voice of wisedom, all knowledge comes from him. So if God thought something wise we would have a proverb for it. He doesn't lead us into snares but delivers us from them. God's way isn't American's way. Israel's laws were from God not man. I think they were closer to wisedom than we are. Men and woman are not the same. Woman are to remain silent in church, and ask their husbands at home. You aint polygyny people probably hate that verse too. But God plainly shows us men and woman are different. Man can have many wives. A wife can only be a wife to one man! Our tradition of one man one woman isn't a biblical one it's a roman/greek one. What does Jesus speak of about traditions of men. Also let me ask you who say it is the lust of the flesh to have multiple wives. Have you ever been married? Do you know what it is to be married. To be selfless, to put someone else before yourself. To take an oath to never quit even when the person makes you crazy. We are all flawed we have our moments that drive others crazy. Having a wife is noble and good. Having a second wife is noble and good. Taking care of multiple wives for your life is noble and good. Divorce is not noble or good. Sleeping around is not noble or good. But the last 2 are prevalent in the modern chruch another greek/roman tradition. Marriage isn't about sex, but sex is a part of marriage. If you feel marriage is all about sex I truly pity you, for you will have no joy. Marriage is about love, biblical love. The love Jesus has for the chruch. Antipolygyny people can't show God is against polygyny, only that he is against divorce. And these same people have probably been divorced.

@@siviwesigwela1 the point I was making is the law of firsts is made up nonsense! It isn't sound doctrine and shouldn't be taught! Also Ii think the burden of proof falls on those who wish to make polygyny a sin/wrongful. The bible clearly show us polygyny and never condemns or speaks against it. Polydandry is clearly condemned as adultery. The bible is the instructions in all righteousness, if the bible is silent then it doesn't effect your righteousness and therefore isn't evil, sin or wrong. Men want to teach traditions of men, that being greek and roman ideologies. All to often people go to the bible with a biase, and a premade mindset of what it says and read it that way. When reading the bible you need to be blank and let it teach you what it means, it has context and meaning you don't need to add to it. It is perfectly sufficient to guide you in all righteousness. I have always found it most amusing when anti-polygyny people take you to the time Jesus was talking about divorce and wife replacement and say it's talking about polygyny. I wonder how Jesus feels about how people twist his words. Most men can only have 1 wife, because you have to provide for them. You have to feed them, shelter them, cloth them, fullfill their needs emotionally and physically. Most men don't have the means to do that. So they trade in their wives like old cars, that is what Jesus was talking about. Leaving these old wives in destitution, well they take a new younger beauty as a bride. Being married is a life long obligation whether you have one covenant or 2 or 3. But the more you take the more responsibility you take because you have to fulfill all the things I've listed above. If you think it's about sex, you couldn't be more wrong. It's more about being a rock for others to lean on. I'm pretty sure players have more sex and far less stress and responsibility than any polygamist. So if polygamist were in it for the sex, they should abort and just be a player. Dr. Luck has done some great video's on polygyny and give even more evidence in the trial against polygyny. They are available on RU-vid.

@@sidepot Interesting points. We do have a high degree of certainty about the authorship of Luke. I believe the claim about Matthew's authorship, stems from the fact that it uses a different name when speaking of a tx collector who left his practice to follow Christ. If you had read the rest of that passage in Acts chapter 1, you would have known that there was a replacement for Judas, decided upon by the apostles, casting lots to decide between two men who met stringent qualifications. Peter was able to perform miracles, so I give his credibility, when it comes to visions, higher marks than Ken King's vision. The same thing goes for the prophets who dreamed dreams and saw visions. Daniel comes to mind, as someone who not only dreamed dreams, but claims that Gabriel explained the meaning of his dreams. You really ought to chill out a bit! Your rhetoric is way over the top! I've been studying this topic for awhile now, not to practice myself but rather from a purely biblical perspective. I'm willing to believe it's wrong if it can be shown from the Word that it's wrong but I have yet to see that happen. Most arguments against it seem based on rationalizing it as immoral or bad...not God's original intent...or something He allowed because of people's sinfulness. However, I still have yet to hear a sound argument based upon what the scriptures say. The idea that God would allow a sinful practice, and even create rules on how to properly perform that sin seem almost blasphemous. Cain and Able obviously had to marry siblings so to argue lets use how it was in Genesis as the standard seems reckless. Finally why would Paul say a minister in the church had to be a one woman man (no polygamy) unless there was polygamy in the church?? I'm not trying to be difficult as I truly do ask these questions and I love MANY of the videos this brother has put out. But sola scripture, not tradition or feelings. Actually, problems only occurred in a handful of cases where polygyny happened to be, but most of those had causes that were unrelated to polygyny, and Scripture even comes right out and says so in II Sam 12:10. Solomon is the exception, because he violated Duet 17:17.

Dude, the entire family foundation of the Bible is based in Polygyny, you are talking nonsense and you are speaking for God with no scriptural or historical basis. God himself said He gave David all his wives, and would have given him more if he only asked. That’s more than permissible. Fact is the Hebrews and early Christians practice polygyny for at least 500 years after Jesus Christ. It was the Pagan Romans that outlawed it. You don’t have to like it, and no one is forced to participate a plural marriage. But my brothers and sisters in Christ please stop denying the reality of the scriptures and facts of the Original Hebrew culture. They are not the only human culture to practice it, maybe it is beneficial and wise in certain circumstances and some people. It’s definitely not a sin according to the Bible. Jacob, who was renamed Israel, married Leah by accident in Genesis 29:21-25. Then he married his true love, Rachel in Gen.29:26-30. Then Rachel told Jacob in Gen.30:1-4 to marry Bilhah. In Gen.30:9, Jacob married Zilpah. Therefore he had 4 wives at one time. NONE of them had a marriage license. None of them went to a preacher or a courthouse or to any government for permission or to pay fees. They simply had sex, and were instantly considered by GOD and by each other to be officially married. Each of these 4 women gave birth to the children of Israel, the 12 tribes. All 12 tribes were ordained to be born by these 4 women. Jacob did not sin by having sex with these women. It was NOT against the will of GOD. It was supposed to happen and was approved by The Almighty. Is Polygamy pleasing and acceptable to GOD? Yes, It was pleasing & acceptable to GOD for Jacob to marry all 4 women. If he had not done so, then 12 tribes of Israel would not exist. It was GOD's Will.

You are absolutely right brother except for the part when you said they "only had sex and were considered married by God." Absolutely not so! Sex doesn't make marriage. What makes marriage is the formal allowance of the parents of the woman, especially the father. Your example of Jacob and his wives is very true and also confirms what i say. The 2 servants were already under Leah and Rachel, therefore, the parents issue doesn't apply. Be blessed brother, that was a great input.

i beg you (or your supporters) to respond to this comment so that we may talk about this issue. You are incredibly misinformed on this issue. The question that must first be answered is "is polygyny a sin?". This requires that we first of all know what sin is. 1 John 3v4 we are told that sin is the transgression of the law. Rom 5v13 and 7v7 say the same thing. Sin is defined by the Law. John 1v17 tells us that the law came by Moses while Christ brought grace and truth. Christ did not bring the law and his disciples including his best friend deny that he did. Moses' writings must inform our opinion on matters of morality. Remember that if both paul and John are teaching that Moses ALONE functioned as lawgiver, then that means Christ believed that to. Yahushua is the one that led them to this conclusion about Moses, He taught both men after all. If we are to understand Christ's words and those of His disciples on the topic of marriage we must look to Moses first. Remember the road to Emmaus (Luke 24v27). Please consider the following points: 1)There are no laws in the books of Moses that restrict a man to one woman. In 2 Sam 12v8 Yahuwah tells David that He gave him his master's wives into his bosom. That means that God actively participated in the polygamy of his servants he did not merely tolerate it (a claim found in abundance outside the bible but zero times within it). In addition to this He contrasts the many wives that David received from Him to the wife of Uriah that he took by himself. He says that this was done in contradiction to his commandment. Clearly telling the reader that Yahuwah does not believe that polygyny is against the law he gave to the holy people at Sinai. Remember where there is no law there is no sin. 2) There are laws in the bible that regulate polygyny and teach men how to be good polygynist fathers and husbands. These are exo 21v10 and Deut 21v15. If laws define good and evil then it good to give wives and children their rights in a polygynous home. Men that follow these laws are righteous like all men that obey God's law. Consider the fact that never once are they called sinners yet they are given laws with which to pursue righteousness. 3) Moses' writings teach us what marriage is contractually. In Gen 2 Adam has a rib taken from him then a woman given in exchange. This is a purchase. This depicts Eve, and hence all wives thereafter, as human property, as slaves. This is why these holy men that sleep with multiple women every night were never charged with adultery. Adultery in the Hebrew is Zanah it speaks of covenant breaking. However, the man cannot break that covenant as masters are not accountable to their slaves. That is why Yahuwah has three laws in the ten commandments against polyandry (No adultery, coveting another's wife or stealing.) but not a single one against polygyny. There are many other things to discuss in Moses' law ie the bible that Yahushua read but what i have written will be a good starting point. Please respond you need my help on this because no prophet ever taught what you are teaching.

I think the basics of the issue is: if you can afford to support and treat several wives equally, God doesn't have anything against it, but if you are going o show favoritism, you should stick to one wife. I don't know why people say that Jesus did not contradict the Mosaic Law, when He clearly did. The mere coordinating conjunction "but" in His teachings ("you have heard that it was said... but I say to you") is a clear grammatical sign of a contradiction being expressed.

Now that scripture says... you have heard it from old do not commit adultry but I tell you whoever lust after a woman commits adultry in his heart... now here's my problem the word lust means to have a strong desire for in your heart and it says whoever which means any man married or not desires to have a woman commits adultry in his heart. If the man is single and so is the woman how can there be adultery? You have to be married for that. The word woman here in the Greek is γύνη goo-nay it means woman especially a wife maybe woman here should be wife. you have heard it from old do not commit adultry but I tell you whoever lust after a wife commits adultry in his heart.

God provided clear guidelines in the Torah if a man wants to take a second wife - Exodus 21:10. Now if the argument is that men in the Torah with multiples wives ended up with problems then how do you defend those with one wife and yet facing marital problems? The argument is a flaw. God never condemned anyone with many wives. Monogamy or polygamy is neither implicit or explicit as God's standard of marriage. It down to individual preference. Don't we have many women today who can't afford basic needs like that of the old who may need husbands to care for them?

The men of Israel had problems lusting after women especially women from other nations. They also hardend their heart and were and still are stiffnecked. Though there is no law against polygamy, reading and understanding scriptures you will learn marriage is for 1 man and 1 woman, which is stressed from the old testament to the new testament. If polygamy was the plan, how can you sin against lust or adultery? Because it is clearly stated if a man looks at a woman with lust he already committed adultery (Matthew 5:28). Scriptures also state, 1 John 2:16 "For all that is in the world, *the lust of the flesh, and the *lust of the eyes, and the *pride of life, 👉🏾is not of the Father, but is of the world."👈🏾 Scriptures talk a lot about men lusting after women. Perfect example.....King Solomon or the men who had to put away their wives and kids (Ezra 10). Romans 8:6 states the mind governed by the flesh is death. If Yah wakes you up to being an Israelite and your first thought is multiple wives vs seeking him.....that's a problem. If you can't take care of or afford the 1 wife you have, but want more.....that's problem. If you don't work...that's a problem. If you disrespect women or your wife and do not spend time with your kids...that's problem. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 states adulterers will not inherit the kingdom. Also, know that Sarah was barren when she offered Hagar to Abraham (Gen 16:3). Rachel offered her maidservant due to being barren (Gen 30:4), and Leah offered her maidservant (Gen 30:9) as well as other wives in scriptures. Moreover, if you are to follow the laws in the captivity of your oppressors aren't you considered lying and stealing from the government if married to multiple women, but claiming 1 wife? I can go on and on, but whatever you decide that will be between you and Yah.🙏🏾

You vaguely dance around the idea that you believe that Monogamy and claim it is also Gods will, yet the only scripture you have to back it up is 1 from the New Testament. Sure, Polygamy probably came with issues but 1 on 1 relationships have issues too. I think a better point to turn to would be why are men designed by nature to want more than 1 woman and why did God not only allow it but as he told David, "I would give you more". The only real issues The Most High seems so have with multiple wives is who you choose and how you treat them. To me. Monogamy is a European theology and also a way to ensure that commoners don't climb the class system because they know that Polygamy and big households are how Israel kept the power in the old times.

Polygamy violates 'the two shall be one flesh.'" Neither God nor Moses saw any violation or contradiction of Genesis 2:24 to the law which not only allowed polygamy, but, as was seen earlier, in some cases commanded it. It would be strained exegesis to say that God, in Genesis 2:24, is establishing some kind of monogamous law that excludes, or somehow condemns, polygamy. Exegetically and contextually, Jesus' point, in Matthew 19:4-6, when he cites Genesis 2:24, is the indissolubility of marriage, for He says, "Therefore, what God has joined together, let not man separate." The expression "one flesh," insofar as it relates to the structure of marriage, refers to the indissolubility of a man and his wife within a marriage, whether it be monogamous or polygamous. This was our Lord’s point in quoting the Genesis passage, and in no way condemns polygamy. Now what about Saint Paul's expression 'one flesh'? Far from being a certain revelation concerning monogamy, the Pauline usage would illustrate, rather the broadness and flexibility of this Old Testament expression. For Paul, this unity in the 'flesh' is not confined to the conjugal union of one husband and one wife, nor is it limited to the bonds of kinship. Even a man who joins himself to a prostitute becomes 'one flesh' with her (1 Corinthians 6:16-17). This kind of unity is obviously not exclusive in the way that a monogamous union is supposed to be, for a man can become 'one flesh' with any number of prostitutes. According to this use of the expression, it would follow also that a man becomes 'one flesh' with more than one wife in a society which accepts this form of marriage. If a sinful prostitute can become "one flesh" with many men, then why would it be inconceivable that a godly man like David could have been "one flesh" with the wives God gave him? Individually, each Christian that is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him (1 Corinthians 6:17). Just as another Christian’s union with Christ does not, in any way destroy the oneness of my union with Christ, so it is that a man may be one flesh with more than one wife. Christ knows, receives, and becomes one Spirit with His virgin(s) (Matt. 25:1-13). It is important to recall that the real background to marriage in ancient Israel, the background against which the biblical passages on marriage are to be seen, was the larger community of the family and the clan. Marriage was not understood primarily in terms of the husband-wife relationship, and certainly not in terms of an exclusive relationship between only two persons. Marriage was regarded as a social instrument required for the preservation and continuation of families and clans. Through daughters being married into different families, there was a mutual strengthening of kinship bonds-each family giving its own flesh and blood to other families. "Flesh" has a wider social or kinship meaning found frequently in the Old Testament (cf. Gen. 29:14; 37:27; Lev. 18:6; Judges 9:2; 2 Sam. 5:1; 19:12-13; Neh. 5:5; Isa. 58:7). 'One flesh', is not confined exclusively to only two persons. The several children of one mother are 'one flesh' with her, by reason of their unity in generation and in maternal love. The relationship between the mother and each child, respectively, may even be regarded as a union of 'two' in 'one flesh', without thereby excluding the other children from this same relationship with their mother. So, by reason of a socially valid polygamous marriage, a man may be conjugally united with each of his wives, respectively, as 'two' in 'one flesh'-both in a carnal sense and in terms of kinship.

People always point to Adam & Eve and say that God intended one man & woman and I always think "Well there was only one and one woman to begin with" But Polygamy starts as early as Genesis 4:19 with Lamech. That's the first recorded polygamous marriage. Also every marriage has drama so I gotta disregard that point I think the truth is pretty easy to figure out. I think the problem is more a culture perspective. In the modern day the primary motivation for marriage is love. But historically people did not usually marry for love. Marriage was more of social contract/union between two people. If you can see that marriage initially had nothing to do with being in love or wanting sex (ie. Adam & Eve) then it's easy to see why polygamy is not a problem. And why God even gives instructions about how to take on multiple wives. The sole reason for God creating Eve was so that man would not be alone. Companionship. Now love is a natural result of companionship but not the sole primary motivation for companionship. I'm in a monogamous relationship but I don't see from the bible that polygamy is sin. I also think that it's wrong to assume that reason for polygamy is strictly sex. I've spoken to people in polygamous relationship and from both the man and woman sex was not part of the reason for taking another wife. In fact sometimes the woman would invite another woman into the relationship. Again if you don't see marriage from the point of view of the primary focus being to be loved by someone else, and see marriage more as a economic, social, and familiar partership, polygamy in some cases makes all the sense in the world

I Believe in Jesus, and yes the bible does allow polygamy, why because it was a thing for that time, let's be honest, most of the holy Books are influenced by culture and patriarchy, so part of blessings in the book of samuel included wives, so to claim that the bible does not promote polygamy and patriarchy is like claiming that there a no war stories in the bible. Let's be honest and not defend obviously things. By lying we're not defending God or Jesus or doing them any favors, if God did not design us for polygamy then why would he bless david with more wives, that means he was helping david to go against his original design. Therefore Sin is not what is listed in the bible but what God makes to be sin to you. To others , it was sin not to kill, example being soul and to other it was sin to kill example being david. God is the one who prescribe what is sin to you and what is not sin. Not everything is the bible is God's word, only Jesus is God's word. Conclusion Jesus does not allow polygamy but there is lot of evidence where the Bible allows polygamy.

If you had just said we should not ignore what happened in the bible with These men of God you are correct, where you lost it is the justification of polygamy, if this is how you feel about polygamy you are rejecting the truth which is in the bible, I hope you find the courage to read the bible in context and not to suit your fleshly desires.

I agree with what you are saying to a degree. Even when he mentioned David cursing his enemies, Jesus did many of the same things in his parables speaking directly to the Pharisees. He called them a brood of snakes and almost every mention of "weeping and moaning and gnashing of teeth" he was talking about them. I still cannot say this is a sin and if I can't say it is a sin when God literally cooperated with it. It still has me perplexed.

His Allen, this isn’t me being facetious so please don’t take it that way, because I love your videos and learn/have learned an awful lot from them, but I just didn’t feel I gained anymore understanding from this one, I mean it kind of states ok yeah God used to let this happen but now he doesn’t? I mean if that’s the case wouldn’t that be true of other things that are sinful in nature? And further still wouldn’t that same basic principle apply to other sins that maybe still practiced today?

I was baptized Catholic when I was born and had listened to different views of Christian Religion and protestants with regard to marriage as I grew I value the lessons taught in the Bible. Christ was sent to fulfill the law of God and the prophets not to think that he (Jesus) came to abolish it (Law) if that was the Divine Law set from the Old Testament then it was crystal clear that Christians did not observed it, only Muslims. Shall He (God) condemn his prophets then for committing polygamy? or having concubines? Abraham was God's friend, Moses too was polygamous, not to mention Solomon think twice.

@Black Panther in Islam that's the main point you don't put away your wife you marry another and value then equally with their needs. So go back to my question will God condemn His prophets especially Abraham for marrying another??? You've talk too much but haven't answered it directly.
@danieldeluca4936
@danieldeluca4936 4 года назад
@Black Panther You are off base, and I already pointed this out to you on another thread. The creation account NEVER condemns polygamy. That is an outright lie on your part! Not only that, but it never says that females are created in God's image! God is not a woman! It says that He created MEN in His image and then says that He created males and females. I notice you didn't even quite the relevant passage. That could be because you realize that it does not support your assertion. Nowhere in Scripture does it say that God's original plan was one man and one woman! It does not say that His plan was either one man and one woman OR one man with so many wives, but it clearly does NOT say that His plan was NOT one man with so many wives, as you assert here. No one is trying to argue that God supports adultery or fornication. In fact, we would all like to see polygamy legalized, or at least leave the recognition of what marriage is, up to the church as opposed to the government. God promised Abraham a son form Sarah AFTER Hagar became Abraham's wife and gave birth to Ishmael! Abraham very well may have sinned at some point in his lifetime, BUT Scripture NEVER refers to what Abraham did, in taking Hagar to be his second wife, as a sin! There is not even the slightest condemnation for him having done so. It was AFTER Hagar gave birth, that God promised Abraham that he would be the father of MANY nations. Hagar WAS sent to the wilderness BUT, that was NOT because Sarah and Hagar were jealous of each other! You have that story a bit confused. She ran off on her own. She wasn't sent, but ran off, after Sarah started mistreating her, because of the scorn she showed Sarah. When she WAS sent away, it was not because of jealousy between her and Hagar. You make it sound like that was the reason, but it wasn't! It was because of the way that Ishmael was treating Isaac! What you posted, is misleading because of your anti-polygamy bias. Having said that, you make excellent points about those prophets having sinned, and the fact that we all need a Savior, and I commend you for that. Make sure though, when you attempt to explain what Scripture says, that you don't misstate it, because that is harmful to your witness.

@Spillers72

I think God's ideal is monogamy in marriage. When you read the teachings of Jesus and the Apostles, this is strongly implied. Plus, a church leader can only have one wife, meaning a polygamist Christian would be barred from church leadership. The church should teach and counsel monogamy. Now, there should be some level of tolerance for a believer that comes in with a polygamist marriage. Maybe he comes from a culture where that is practiced or simply made an unwise decision. He can't be a leader though and should be counseled not to take anymore wives.

You ar being deceived. Jesus Christ. Polygamy is SIN. I am seriously tired of all those preachers inviting the wrath of GOD with false teaching. God created the covenant between man and woman. Not between Adam and Steve not between Adam and 3 wives!! 1 Corinthians 7 : But since there IS SO MUCH immorality, EACH MAN should have his own wife, (not plural!!) and EACH woman her own husband. The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife's body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. A THREEFOLD CORD CANNOT EASILY BE BROKEN. Man, wife and God. SHALOM!

No it not, there is no such thing. There is only one "Will" being done! That's God's Ordained/Appointed Will - Isaiah 46:10, Ephesians 1:11. Everything that goes on under the sun is happening according to God's One True Sovereign "Will". Please stop the unbiblical teachings of God having "Two Wills"! It is Theologically Sickening!

If we're to use this concept of "permissive" vs "perfect" will (especially in the context of Genesis 1) then we could further argue that God's perfect will would be for all of us to be vegan nudists living in a garden.
@danieldeluca4936
@danieldeluca4936 Год назад
God's perfect will can only be known when we decide to not be in conformance to this world, but allow ourselves to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Paul wrote this to the monogamous Romans. He basically said not to conform to the practices of that monogamous society.
