LeBron James has played with his fair share of teammates over the years and it's no secret that some players have a hard time fitting in. Hope you enjoy.

I always thought this narrative was dumb and a way for the media to elevate LeBron. This often comes up when they try to compare him to Jordan. They try to make it seem like MJ was just some guy who could score but wouldn't be anything without Phil and Scottie and LeBron is the better overall player because "he made his teammates better" and then refer to how the teams collapse after he leaves. I think this points out some very important context that's left out of the conversation.

Haven't finished watching the video yet so I dunno if it was mentioned, but a big part of the reason for his teams collapsing after he leaves is because the roster is constructed solely around his skill set. When a roster of 12-15 guys are put together because of only 1 of them, of course the team will collapse once that 1 player is gone. Plus, Miami's fall had more to do with Bosh and Wade being hurt more than LeBron leaving. The year after LeBron left, Wade missed 20 games and Bosh missed 38. They still almost made the playoffs anyway.

All he All Star teammates have dropped dramatically their offensive production when they start to play with LeBron. Wade went from 26ppg to 19ppg, playing with LeBron. Every year, he avg less and less. Bosh went from 24ppg to 16ppg. Look at K. Love as well. Kyrie was the only one who increased his ppg in his last 2 seasons in Cle because he decided to take more shoots, and that's why his problems with LeBron started
@dynamic6645

The idea that LeBron *"turns big into jump shooters"* is typically part of the dishonest criticisim that players' (Bosh, Love) numbers go down when they play with LeBron because of a supposed *"LeBron system"* Ignoring the fact that Wade and Irving were also on those teams, lessening the scoring options for the bigs. And ignoring that star players numbers go down when they play with other stars simply by virtue sacrificing for each other. LeBron was a 30 ppg scorer before playing with other stars and never again after. So it's dishonest to act like other stars' roles changing when they team up is some exlcusive, evil LeBron effect.

Kevin Love and Chris Bosh don't seem like they have any regrets, according to what they've said on multiple podcasts. I doubt they'd ever use the word "ruin" in their vocabulary when discussing such topic. They did whatever it took to put themselves and their teams in a position to succeed and they ended up succeeding. Kuzma hasn't played more than 5 seasons in the NBA so I can't say that he was "ruined". According to the trend of LeBron's former teammates, it's safe to say Kuzma will never average a 3 point percentage of .366 ever again in any given season like he did in his rookie season when he was LeBron's teammate.

Of course he took more shots because he's the best player. There's something you didn't pick up on that I picked up on a long time ago. Larry Hughes and Antawn Jamison both had drastic drops in production playing with LeBron but they actually play together with Gilbert arenas in which all three average 20 points per game in the same season. But individually with LeBron neither could crack 16 points. And nobody would call Gilbert arenas a facilitator but somehow they managed to all three average 20 points a game. Great job overall but you kind of missed a big point. Also shot attempts per game. LeBron is number one in every season of his career except one for shots per game on his team

Thank you and I've been saying Bron is the Wilt Chamberlain of his era, a stats stuff machine but in the big games is where you shut down his teammates, let Bron get his and it's over because his teammates always play like deer in the head lights in crunch time because they aren't use to team ball because Bron never as a leader trained them for that. Jordan learned that fast no one in the 80's and 90's of fundamental basketball was you winning with only one or even two great players but instead back then all 5 of your teammates had to be on point or you'll get fundamental rolled off the court 😳 The Lakers, Celtics, Bulls, San Antonio, Mavs and many other teams that won that chip never beat you with athleticism or ball hogging but instead fundamentals of the game of playing team ball. No fundamentals were needed when the Lakers beat a bad and injured Miami team in the bubble but instead they used athleticism against a very weak team 🤔

@JordanFans78
@JordanFans78 2 года назад
I said this years ago that when Jordan started winning it was when his stats went down and that's when he trusted his teammates to do their job that they get paid for. Imagine this, you hog all the stats across the board but your team always seems to win but in the big games it is now time to involve your teammates but they don't come through because they aren't use to doing their job from not never havig to and you always lose the big game because of that. That is Bron's career and why he always lost the finals most of the time especially with the Cavs. His teammates are getting paid millions to watch Bron stats stuff instead of everyone playing their part. Look at the teams that Bron lost to in the finals like the Mavs, San Antonio and Golden State who all look like they were playing 80's and 90's style basketball on Bron's teams where everyone did their part and the ball would go to the open man and that man didn't miss because they were use to playing offense, defense, rebounding ect. Bron is not a leader and doesn't hold teammate accountable like the superstar players of the 80's and 90's held their teammates accountable for not doing their job but instead Bron rather be a friend first and ball hog. Truthfully if Bron played in the 80's and 90's with his talent he would have 6 chips because those players back then would of taught him really how to play the game with accountability, hunger, anger aka the right way without running all over the NBA looking for chips. Imagine if Bron said I am taking my rebounds and assist down to put up 5 more points a game I think Bron has more chips but you will have dumb people saying Bron has to get those rebounds and assist for his team, nope you go get players who can like Jordan did with Rodman, Harper ect. More stats has only equaled more finals losses for Bron. Finally No one wanted to play with Bron in Cleveland so he went to Miami but Bron went back to Cleveland under Kyrie where Kyrie left him and then went to LA and begged AD to come there because no one wanted to play with him. I mean something aint right here, sure Jordan was harsh on his teammates but Jordan always came through in the finals and his teammates came through for Jordan as Jordan and his teammates played off of each other in playing their parts and this is how 80's and 90's basketball was played as a team.

Thank you so much for making this video, I've been saying this for years about LeBron and he doesn't make his teammates better. Only reason why it worked with Wade/Kyrie/Davis. Cause they don't need the ball in their hands 24/7 to score. They're good off the ball sccoers, a truly underappreciated aspect to scoring. And so is Bosh, he was a good off-ball scorer with the Raptors too. Me personally I feel LeBron is the most overrated superstar player in the past 30yrs of the NBA. I've never been a fan of the basketball player of his game. And his mentality has always been weak and he's not competitive. What Chandler, Durant, Bosh,Chambers said in these tweets you shared on his game and playing with him are facts. One thing particular to what Chamber's also said. LeBron is not a good off-ball scorer, he needs a thousand pick & rolls just to score. Even Tayshon Prince said it in a interview talking about LeBron offensive game compare to Kobe. He said playing LeBron, he's going to pick & roll you alot and that's his game. Kobe can score with/without the ball and has variety of go to moves. Kevin Loves rebounds and efficiency got worse. Why rebounds? Because he went from playing in the paint to a spot up shooter. Steph and KD got lesser shots which is natural. But they didn't have to completely reinvent their games like Love and Bosh did. Notice Lebrons 3rd options are the only ones who get heavily criticized. First Bosh then Love now Westbrook. Why? This video proves those players weren't bad for me they were young and developing. If Lebron does what people say he does the Lakers wouldn't have given up so much bringing in an injured prone AD, I think Carmelo is ok and gave up so much for Westbrook who should be an example for this video(I haven't done any research but I'm assuming his triple double numbers went down and his turnovers are the same or worse).

The PG because he not allowed to do his job (get assists, control the game/tempo), because Lebron wants to be the PG The Center because Lebron system don't call for post up players, but only catch and shoot 3 point players, so the Big/centers don't get many touches unless they can create off the dribble like AD

Whether or not he makes a player better depends entirely on their and play style. If it's someone like Chris Bosh, who went from being the number 1 option on a bad team to being the 3rd option in Miami.... of course his numbers would drop. Same goes for any players who are at their best with the ball in their hands. If you take a creator like Jordan Clarkson and try to make him a jump shooter, that's just not conductive to his play style. On the other side, guys who can shoot or do a lot of movement without the ball can thrive playing next to LeBron because he's a great passer. So I would say he makes shooters and role players better. Ball-dominant scorers or stars sacrificing touches will see their numbers drop playing next to him.

And a dip in scoring isn’t evident as to if a player has improved or not for example KD with the warriors averaged less than he did in OKC but he may have actually improved his understanding of team basketball and basketball IQ. And the pressure that comes along with playing with lebron the constant spotlight and media attention which we now know affected Kevin Loves mental health which affected his play on the court. On the other end many of these players never even went far in the playoffs (Kevin love, Bosh, AD, Kyrie) but won championships with Lebron and haven’t done anything impactful since. Also, the players that got max contracts after playing with Lebron. There are so many more elements than just scoring that showcases a players improvement.

Can't look just at scoring as many of the great players were the first and in many cases only options without Lebron. However everyone that plays with Lebron ends up as a role player and many of their skills aren't used properly. Realistically if you really want Lebron to succeed you can have one other all star caliber player and the rest need to be 3 and D role players. The main issue with Lebron is that he isn't able to get the most out of his teammates in a productive manner. While some stats will go down (there is only one ball to go around) overall intensity and teamwork tends to go up when playing with some of the all time greats. While Scottie Pippen could have scored more without Jordan, Scottie's level of defense and intensity were top notch. The same could be said of Magic's Lakers and Bird's Celtics. Even with some players today such as Giannis and Doncic you see them getting the most out of their team even if the most doesn't show up on the stats sheet.

Personally I think that that is a tough question to ask in it’s simplicity. What I mean by this is…if you ask does LeBron make his teammates better individual players or does LeBron make the team he’s on better in Totality. In order to answer both of these questions we would have to look at the guys as well as the teams that he has been on. As a rookie he was drafted on a team that had a lot of young soon to be stars. However their youth usually prevented them from winning games. When LeBron came to the Cavs he elevated their success as a team and each player played harder with him as a teammate. And the Fact that the Cavs went from a number one lottery pick to an NBA finals appearance with the presence of LeBron is enough to prove that he tends to make teams more successful. And then he left Cleveland to join a super team in Miami and he did this without delivering his promise of giving Cleveland it’s first championship. When he got to Miami he made a big ordeal out of winning not one,not two, not three, but eight straight championships. Only to loose the first chance he got on this super team. It was at that point that he changed as a player and as a man. He became more ball dominant and he became more difficult to stop. The guys around him began sacrificing their own stats to feed LeBron. And in return LeBron gave Miami a world championship and then a second. Now the question then becomes does he make the guys around him better players. The answer to that would be no in fact the guys around him all dipped in stats but they won rings. When he left Miami they were a shell of what they were with LeBron. That’s when he decided to go back home to Cleveland and once again try to win its first championship. He managed to handpick guys around him that were talented but would sacrifice for him and his quest for championships. It was that point that he did deliver Cleveland its first championship and that team would barely be a playoff team without him. However each of those Teammates ended up dropping an individual stats. You can also look at the fact that each team LeBron has been on has never won a championship after he left. Now he is in Los Angeles he’s in Laker and they did not make the postseason. He’s surrounded himself with older players that were individual possible Hall of Famer‘s. He had one decent season where he won a championship in the bubble. Other than that you’re his time in LA has been nearly a complete failure. This is exactly why we cannot mention LeBron’s name when it comes to the greatest of all time. I think it is fair to say that him maybe in the top 10 conversation. However I have Michael Jordan Kobe Bryant Magic Johnson Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Oscar Robinson your Russell Isaiah Thomas and others above him simply because they found a way to win regardless of who was on your team.

So who/what is the common denominator here? LeBron. It's LeBron and his great shot opportunities that he's setting up his teammates with. That's backed up with video evidence too. ["Chris Bosh went from 27 PPG to 17 playing with Lebron! Kevin Love went from 27 to 14!"] A common fact with them is that they knew they would be the teams third options. According to all the podcasts where they've mentioned playing alongside LeBron, they don't seem to have any regrets because they knew they had to do whatever it took to win a championship. No championship team in NBA history ever had 3 players who averaged 27ppg (or more) on it throughout the regular season and the playoffs en route to winning a championship. There is a reason Klay never once averaged 23ppg (or more) in any of the playoffs that he's played in. Why is that? Because he was the 3rd option of the Warriors dynasty behind Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant. Those 2 will have a higher scoring average than him. It's just common sense. ["Say again how Lebron makes players better??"] By setting them up with some of the most efficient shooting opportunities that they've ever had in their entire careers when they were teammates of other stars. The thing that doesn't get discussed is that throughout LJs career, 47-48% of his field goals were assisted by temmates. This year it's 55%. With that, don't you think that it is arguable that it was his teammates who made lebron better and not the other way around. On the assists area, management always try to surround LJ with shooters throughout his career on top of all star teammates. Doesn't that jack up his career assists total as well? Again, teammates, reliable shooters making Lebron a better assist man - not the other way around.

Kyries increase in scoring is misleading. Kyrie for sure would’ve increased his scoring by far more than one point if he didn’t play along side lebron.. Kyrie would’ve been more likely around 26-27 ppg by then

Lebrons' main problem is his ego and selfishness. He cares more about him than the team., More about stats than the win. His flopping and need to call himself the GOAT is another big reason I'm not a big fan. And I'm sure many of his teammates and former probably would admit they rather not be on his team. LeBron has to have all the attention. True GOATs are humble(MJ, Gretzky,Brady,Trout, etc)

I've been saying this for years. Lebron doesn't make his teammates better. Look at all those young players he got blamed and traded on the Lakers. All those players are ballin now. Randle, ball, kuzma, Caruso, ingram. And that Cavs team was definitely a superteam. Love was the the best PF in basketball the year b4 he joined lebron. When lebron team wins he did by himself andales his teammates better. When he loses, he needs help and can't do it by himself.
@back2back379
@back2back379 2 года назад
Lebron doesn't make players whose strength is with the ball better, because his off-ball game is mediocre at best. That's why he doesn't make Westbrook better. See what happened in Miami. Lebron had Dwyane Wade available for playmaking, but Lebron didn't want to play off the ball or was not capable of doing it well, that's why Wade's assists dropped from 6.5/g to 4.6/g when Lebron joined. Lebron had Kevin Love available to do some playmaking, but Lebron didn't want to play off the ball or was not capable of doing it well, that's why Love's assists dropped from 4.4/g in Minnesota (highest for a PF that year) to just 2.2/g in Cleveland. Lebron had Kyrie available to do some playmaking, and Kyrie was at a point his numbers should have just been going more and more up, but instead his assists dropped from 6.1/g to 5.2/g once Lebron joined. On the other hand, Pippen's assists numbers dropped when Jordan retired in '93, going from 6.3/g the year before to 5.6/g, and then 5.2/g in '95, because he no longer had Jordan making plays and creating off-ball for him to make simple passes and get more assists. His assists then jumped back up once Jordan joined again in '96. That's the thing, Jordan made playmakers around him better by being able to play off-ball and actually utilize their playmaking abilities instead of relegating them to being spot up jump shooters, waiting for him to drive and kick all the time. People need to realize why Jordan's assists numbers dropped all of a sudden after Doug Collins left and Phil Jackson took over as the coach. Jordan was averaging 33/8/8 on 54% FG in just his 4th full season, playing under Doug Collins and playing ball dominantly all the time. Had he continued to play his career that way, it's perfectly reasonable to think he would have continued to improve on those numbers and averaged numbers like 37/10/10. Instead, Jordan began to play more off the ball, which dropped his assists numbers due to lower time of possession, but made his other teammates better by doing so as all they would have to do is make simple passes to Jordan or opportunities created for others as Jordan did all kinds of work off the ball to scramble the defense. In the Last Dance, Jordan talks about this, saying at first he didn't like Phil Jackson's gameplan because he wanted to take the ball out of Jordan's hands while Doug Collins wanted to always keep the ball in Jordan's hands. Had the ball always been in Jordan's hands though, he wouldn't have made players like Scottie Pippen, Ron Harper, Toni Kukoc better, as they wouldn't have been able to utilize their strongest skills, they would have been relegated to being jump shooters standing around ala Kevin Love/Chris Bosh/Westbrook. Jordan would probably have been something like 3-3 in the Finals instead of 6-0 playing that way. People also need to realize, oftentimes the "creation" of a shot is done by the player off the ball, while the player with the ball just has to make the simple read and pass, and get credited with an "assist." This is why often Jordan's teams were at or near the top in team assists/g, whereas Lebron's teams have often not been high in team assists/g, because one person dominating the ball leads to less touches overall for other players on the team, hence why oftentimes Lebron, Luka, Westbrook, and Harden's teams have been low in team assists/g and team passing/g, because they have very high time of possession. Lebron was near the top or at the top in time of possession for many years. If Jordan was so selfish with the ball, it would not have been possible for the Bulls to be at the top of the league in team assists/g, they were able to be up there because he actually lowered his time of possession. The most casual way of viewing "making teammates better" is looking at a player's assists numbers without context. How about play in a way that gets assists for your teammates? Wade made Lebron better by being both willing and able to play off-ball, because he realized Lebron needed the ball in his hands, and Lebron couldn't make Wade better by playing off-ball. That's what really happened when Wade "gave the keys" to Lebron, he basically gave him the ball, because Lebron wasn't capable of playing true unselfish basketball, he's only effective playing selfishly with the ball in his hands doing everything with the ball. Being truly unselfish as a basketball player is playing in a way that allows your teammates' best skills to be able to be utilized, not relegating them to be jump shooters standing on the outside and forcing them to sacrifice their strongest skills to cater to your own strengths.

As far as Love and Bosh this criticism is flawed. They won cuz they had Bron. They wouldn’t have accomplished much else without him. Also any 3rd star numbers would drop being the 3rd star.

People don´t remember how good Bosh was before he joined Miami. He had been single handedly been carrying a pathetic Toronto team with the likes of Anthony Parker and Bargnani as his supporting cast, making the playoffs several seasons and averaging over 23 and 10 over five consecutive All-Star seasons. In 2010 He was coming off an All-NBA season where he was projected to be the most coveted free agent by far after LeBron, and was going to sign a super mega deal as a franchise cornerstone type. He was still really great with Miami but of course was relegated to a stretch 4 type, when his strength had always been scoring inside.

Its yes & no...obviously some games are a better fit wth bron than with other superstars...that being said, the follow-up video shud be which players had more sucess with or without bron. Check the players' rings, finals appearances & impact they had on other teams. I did a cursory che & its a glaring difference in how those players after leaving bron helped/didnt help their new team reach finals or get a chip. PS...Playing with bron also got quite a few teammates paid. Check salaries apart from bron & with bron...dellavadova doesnt get paid unless hes clise marking steph in the finals...tristan thompson gets a big bump in $$....jr got his $$ to name a few.

Occasionally I've seen glimpses that he does & while there's times I've given him credit, there's no obvious upgrade. Most good plays have been from chosen rosters with players already with some offensive skills. Shame tho is I've seen players get better at looking for James as he finally moves his lard ass toward the hoop. He's usually open due to players not keying on him cuz James gives up the ball & hangs out on the perimeter. Then darts to the rim as the D collapses on the ball handler for a dump off easy bucket. Opponents are afraid to touch James but not his mates. Of course then when they don't win, he can say he's not getting support. Fallacy is a lot of those misses directly go to James holding the ball too long & passing to teammates not in a good position to score with the clock running out. Yea, not making teammates better as a rule in my book.

Among all "facilitater superstars" or among all "point forward superstars" and among all "offensive anchor type of superstars" LBJ is the worst when it comes to pull his team up to new heights. Everybody get nerfed. Cuz he need stats and he needs singleness to shine his own accolades.
