Risk and Reward, a key staple in video game design. If I play a P-51 I go really fast but i *RISK* not outturning an A6M if it gets too close. If I'm high up and see someone low and slow, i can kill them for an easy kill but i *RISK* getting jumped by someone who was more patient. I can return to base, fill up on all the essentials, and go back into the battle with significant comfort, i *RISK* nothing because AF AAA will not even give players a chance to kill me in current day War Thunder.
@@Seagull780 if someone camps their AF and climbs then the only thing they have to do to survive is dodge. Dodging is really easy when the attacking aircraft is going fast and they will have to be going fast to survive the attack or else the aaa will shred them almost instantly since Gaijin keeps buffing the AF AAA.
The AA gets me so raging. I just quit. What's the point in me even trying when people just bomb 3 tanks and AFK the rest of the game to get the win. Also can not be fucked to grind out 5,000,000 SL to actually buy the planes I've unlocked
@@absboodoo It used to be inconsistent like that, but its been buffed, never happens anymore. Also ,the AA's range has been increased through the roof, my do217 got hit flying at 4500m altitude.(earlier, 3000m used to be safe)
@Desi I barely play them anymore because they’re somewhat useless in air RB. Sure a team can work around them, but you never see that while solo queuing.

He wasn't though. Defyn was the one camping his base in a game where you have a distinct advantage when you are the one camping outside. That is scummy as hell. "Oh we started at the same level playing field - if you have to go back its your fault" That is what he says in this video, while in others for alot of planes he recommends "do not take dull fuel - you will be so heavy that you lose".

@@1337Jogi It's your fault if you dont take enough fuel though. Most planes you should not take full fuel anyway. Like, what's the point of going 1h fuel in a maximum 25 min match. Some planes use up more fuel than others on the mig 21's for instance, they use up a lot of fuel so taking as close to full fuel is needed because if you afterburn the whole time 30 min of fuel will last barely 10 minutes. But in the g91 r/3 or r/4 you don't use up so much fuel. Most planes you will lose with full fuel, however that does not mean you can't go 20 min of fuel instead of the minimum at maybe 8 minutes. You have to know your plane and if you are in a dogfight against a player with the same plane as you and that person has less fuel you will probably lose in a dogfight and you have to get that kill in other ways. Maybe bait for team mates or something. Even if you go min fuel does not mean you will have to rtb, if you don't go full throttle all the time 8 minutes of fuel on maybe mig 15 bis will last the whole match. Secondly, Defyn was not camping. Edit: I rewatched the part were ''Defyn was camping'' and he was not, the mig 15 bis played poorly, the mig 15 bis is much more manouverable and would easily win against a BOMBER. What he should have done is go in a straight line and build up some more speed and he would be able to dodge every dive Defyn would have done because well, Defyn played as a fucking BOMBER.

Trying to fight instead of instantly running away will at least teach you what and what not to do! Every match. Literally every match I encounter 1 or 2 base camper. And talking about AAA there are some mid map AAA those are too much scary. There are like a red circle in a middle of the map you cant do dog fight below 3k alt or AAA will kill you, yes I am not talking about air field AAA. I am talking about mid map red circle AAA.
I feel like rn, in jets, I basically have to take min fuel, since now everyone else just takes min fuel, gets the performance advantage, and then runs back to base with no consequences, what's the point in taking 20 mins in a sabre and having much worse acceleration now?
AF AA is so damn strong that it's almost necessary to have a dedicated IL-28 or something on your team with its wings ripped off and tail gunner ready and waiting on their AF. If someone starts camping the base Ivan gives 'em what for.
If your team died and you don't have the ammo and you need to rtb then just leave after you repair because you're not going to win when the enemy doesn't have to climb again and nobody wants to wait 3 extra minutes for you to get far enough from your airfield that you can't just run back when you see someone.
That's what makes it a team-based game. You keep your team alive so you don't have to carry, and if your team loses because the enemy was better, then they should win. What's hard to understand about that?
If you help out your teammates you can keep them alive and get some easy kills. Also as the guy above mentioned it's team-based game, you don't get any safe zone even in tank RB (let alone other multiplayer games) if you happen to take too little ammo or your team gets stomped do you?
I remember when this plane was moderately enjoyable to fly. Fast, good climb, missiles and a lot of ground loadouts with a "don't fuck with me" head-on loadout.
Imagine being that guy, losing a dogfight in an R4 against a Vaoutour. And he's spaded as well cause premium. And he paid at least $30 for that plane lmao.
I do hate it when a 109 is outrunning me at altitude then just dives to the af to camp because they aren't 2km above me... I get the reason for the af and I support having it, but it NEEDS A RELOAD! sure go repair or re arm or refuel because a bomber is just space camping and you need the fuel... But they shouldn't have unlimited ammo or missiles to shoot at you. They need to have a decent reload time of like 3-5 minutes to not make the af shit. It doesn't teach anyone anything and it requires no skill to dive to aa. Especially now when just normal ai trucks can hit you by being near them for 5 seconds to get a kill.
AAA is hard as fuck to camp properly. AF is a place that requires extreme amount of situational awareness at all times. AAA is stressful and complicated to fly around. It is the End Game for pilots in War Thunder. So there is no wonder that many if not the big majority of people don't like the AF AAA. It is not a relaxing thing to do. You need to think quickly, be smart, take initiative and most of all... predict enemy movements and never do mistakes. It is a long list of things... but if you do all this, provided you are even capable to do all these things... Only then will you start smashing your enemies so hard, that people will envy you, call you a statpadder, hacker, reroll, AF camper and many more things. Then you finally know... you are doing it right. AF is a warhorse. A horse that is tough, strong, resilient and dangerous. Spaceclimbers have their place but they are race horses... And race horses are fragile, sensitive and if just one single thing isn't going right, they fail to perform. So unless you are meant to fly around AAA and can see the beauty of the many prerequisites of doing circles around your AF and its hard life... you will never master it. AAA is like the sword of Excalibur, only the chosen ones can pull it out of the Brick and unlock its power.
If I’m ever the last one on the team against multiple enemies I just return to my airfield, but instead of camping there and waiting for the enemies to get killed or scared by AA I just leave the plane and let the enemies win as they deserved the win.
But what about the Me 136 that NEEDS to be able to land, do we just allow planes to camp over their AF and give the Me no chance to refuel, this is just as bad imo. All we need is a system to punish people who do not get back into the battlefield after going to the AF. Or we need a big revamp of Air RB because it's the way this gamemode works that's messed up.
AF AAA should get a nerf or an eradication. But with those gone, people who want to take off after repairing/rearming could easily get strafed. they should just add a spawn protection that lasts like 10 seconds *after* taking off.
The AAA pisses me off to no end but removing it out right wouldn't work for a long time after so just nerf it to the ground so it doesn't pilot snipe me from 7km away in prop planes and missles me from 10km where I can't even spot the missles in early jets
The AA is even worse at low tier. Just what new pilots need is to get shot down in the middle of the map, while trying to engage the enemy. It happened to me. Middle of a dogfight, and shot down by AA, not over their base but pretty close to the middle of the map.
I love the AA rant at the end. I have used AA to win matches to even the odds when I am last player alive but very rarely. but I always take off and try to fight rather than just camp the airfield. I have died or quit too many matches to count because the last player on enemy team refuses to take off or abuses the J out.
I will continue to camp af AA until gaijin stops using rediculous repair costs to balance br. Sucks for you? Sucks for me to lose money 50% of the time too. Hate the game not the player.
Update 1 : i’ve noticed that Gaijin reworked for mid jets, and bring back the Vautour and other fast subsonics at 9.0 (was at 9.7 back in the days). Seems like this plane could be a bit competitive, especially when she’s downtiered.
Thanks DEFYN for this video, I'm so glad you made a video about the premium Vautour recently, because all the other videos on the Vautour are from when it first came out and since War Thunder is always changing, a recent video is way more accurate since the Vautour has gotten a lot worse since it came out like 1 or 2 years ago. Personally I think a lot of that “running to the airfield” stuff revolves around the war thunder economy. When you shot down that A5, that player just lost probably half of everything he earned that match, if not more. I’m sure if gaijin would make the grind 1/2 as long as it is and 1/2 as expensive you wouldn’t see that nearly as much.

AA shouldn't be this good and u saying "take more fuel/spray less/dont get hit. is just something people dont want to understand." its so true yet people just complain and rely on some rng bs (thats quoted from u :) instead of making the fight fun and actually playing the game.
@Desi Well that sums up me half the time I land is due to ammunition shortages which has resulted by the fact my ping is upwards of 500 while rarely below that, firing at the right moment yet always a miss from the ping. A skilled pilot doomed by ping, God damn Australian internet. So for them to say spray less as if to all players is an insult to those with ping issues, well at least we become some slippery pricks in dogfights due to it..
The rants about base campers are starting to get on my nerves. I don't like this idea that anyone who gets damaged early in the game should have to bend over and spread for people who spent more time climbing. What about the planes that aren't good at altitude and need to bait people down to get kills? What about the planes that can't climb? What about the people that kill the ground attackers before they blitz the tickets and win the game before any of the climbing planes see each other? I've actually seen the latter happen in smaller games where nobody wanted to drop down, and something like that would only become more common if people knew they had no reasonable expectation of being able to get back to base and take off again. If players can't rely on being able to go back to base under reasonable circumstances, they'll just end up playing super passive. Imagine long, tedious games of everyone sideclimbing until they feel safe, or people getting so impatient with their slow climbing planes that they just dive and rip when someone inevitably shows up at a higher altitude than them. AAA is completely busted, and base camping by extension is also completely busted, but shaming players because they needed to RTB early is ridiculous, counterproductive, and frankly elitist (yes, I know you've heard people say it a million times, but they're right). Base camping is a scummy move, but the game is fully of scummy mechanics, and not taking advantage of these mechanics puts you at a major disadvantage. If you don't want to get owned by dumb, broken crap every game, you either take advantage of it, or devote countless hours of your life to rack up 18,000 games and enough experience to outplay the people who abuse it (if that's even an option for you). At the end of the day, it's not the players' faults for abusing a broken mechanic in a frustrating game, it's Gaijin's fault for making a frustrating game full of broken mechanics. Complaining about the players just deflects responsibility away from those truly responsible for the problem: Gaijin. I'd really like to see Gaijin do SOMETHING about the base camping problem other than just tweaking AAA effectiveness. Perhaps instead of insta-winning, zeroing out tickets disables all base AAA, or all base AAA just turns off after a certain amount of time. Wishful thinking, I know.
You are just making up excuses. AF SAM is just extremely annoying feature. Imagine if ground RB had a base with fully auto 120mm apfsds auto cannon that kills anyone that gets close on a map with no caps? AF SAM is just a auto win crutch for bad players.
@@killthemall55 I don't play ground RB, due in no small part to the fact that people can spawn camp you with little fear of retaliation. Perhaps a less hyperbolic version of your idea would help with that.
@@killthemall55 it's really not, with supersonic jets they can basically eliminate any hope for repairing in these matches, there just needs to be a system in place that forces people not to camp on the AF, which I believe they're working on
Love the Vautours but missiles make them really hard to play. In Ground RB, I just keep speed as much as I can (like the Wyvern). Zoom in the AO, drop the bombs then GTFO. Zoom climb and do it all over again. Thou sometimes I just get sniped from my spawn from Radar guided missile AA vehicles 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️ it happens. This video is very appreciated 👌🏾🤘🏾

@@bideobunkey4213 that’s totally fair. In a downtier with enemies that don’t have after burners or many missiles, it’s pretty hard to not get a kill or two. I’d say if you wanna counter a Yak-38 and he’s locking you from within 2.5km you can probably jink the r-60 since it takes a sec after launch for it to start its track. If a Yak is closer on your 6 it’s really easy to reverse them by just pulling a tight loop or roll bc they can’t turn for shit.
U don't turn well and when u do u bleed ur speed hard. Ur a bootleg f104 without the engine power and better missiles. Boom and zoom and don't turn fight anything at the beginning of the game or even mid game use ur missiles nd go back to base and rearm ur gun is shit and hard to aim and has 160 bullets when it shoots them all in like 3 seconds. Hope this helped. Its only viable bc it has r60s
About that airfield rant thing. What about if i'm heavily damaged because i use a turn fighter in a big furball? It's almost impossible to get out of a mess of a dogfight with multiple enemies and not get damaged. What about then? Low altitude, plane barely flying. Should i turn around and die to someone diving down on me from space? I wouldn't think so. You are correct if the enemy has a chance to do something against you, but this is not true everytime. And, for realistic, there are situations where the airfield is abused. I won't deny it. And it should be fixed. However, someone should still have the ability to land and rejoin the fight. In arcade air, it's even worse due to spawncampers diving down on you from space. Yes you get an air spawn in arcade, but if someone sits at around 8 km alt, then good luck pitching up for him.
I think the base aa should only work when someone is actively on the runway, and say a minute after he gets repaired(not rearmed bc they would Just shoot to start rearming again) that way they are safe to repair, safe to take off and pick up some energy and then they are on their own, alternatively if the AA needs to be on for immersion reasons(AA would not stop defending the base) then have them have accuracy reduced by 100% so they only shoot for flavor and immersion. Base camping should be a banable offence anyway, it is ruining the dynamics of the game.
I generally enjoy your content, but the comment about the airfield aa pissed me off so much. Not so much about the running back to the airfield aa, but saying: "just get better so you don't die". Well not everyone can no life video games and some people play a couple of matches a week for fun and have no intention of grinding. If the airfield aa is going to save my ass from people who nolife warthunder, I'm absolutely going to use it. Dying to literally the best players in the game when there is literally nothing I can do kills any fun I may have been having.

I playing the vautour rn to grind my tech tree, I honestly could never hope to do what you did in this vid, hahaa I use the Vautour like a Ferrari with hit & run hability, I keep my speed above 1000 and out run missile... I never thought of dogfighting in it...

One thing is for certain. As a French main, ignore this useless machine, and go grind the rest of the tech tree with the Etendard. The best machine that you can get. Why with the Etendard ? Acceleration and turn of course, and a rank VI too. While you lose energy in a turn, you would as quickly as you lost it regained it. And of course, it is a fun plane, a challenge, and because of the airspawn, it truly become a damn powerful aircraft, even though it doesn't need it in the first plane. This thing is pointless. Even though you have 4 Shafrirs, good luck aiming those to a target with an aircraft that can't turn enough to lead the missiles. Even then, if you happened to buy this thing, I would beg you to do what DEFYN is doing right here, give it a try. Try to turn fight with it, and try to dogfight with it. And that is always fun to do, become an unexpected foe to the enemy. High risk and reward. And because of it being not that expensive of an aircraft, go have some fun in it.
those Rolan AAAs are ridiculous for any jets that aren't top tier jets. As mig17 or even a mig19 there is no way you can kill a air field camper. However for top tier jets I think it is actually alright. It just gives me a chance to j out when all my teammates just suddenly vanished and left me with 1 v 6 or sth, provided I already kill couple of them. In addition, other top tier jet can still kill me therefore thats fair for top tier imo.

If you camp the af your also not getting credit for the kills so just get out there and fight if you die so be it watch the reply see what you could have done better I had a funny game against an Me-264 and for the life of me I can’t remember what I was flying it might have been the G55S in fact I’m positive it was but this guy was last and was just circling his af and every time I got close he’d just cross to the other side of where I was so I started taunting him in chat but I got bored so I got some alt high enough not to get shot by the aaa then I said fuck you im comin in pointed the nose at him threw the throttle against the stopper and just hauled balls in his direction jinked around a bit and then sliced his wing of with the 20s won the game as our tickets were low

Airfield AA is just a pain in the ass to deal with, especially in props. I have several occasions where I got a decent game and still lost because the last guy was camping AF. And now its just getting worse in top tier with SAMs. I'd actually rather be AF strafed a hundred times than facing an AF camper.
Can't help but agree. If someone is on AF for more then 60 seconds (give em time to pick another loadout) and there is no friendlies on their team in the air, they ought to start loosing tickets rapidly as if their team lost all vehicles.

I have similar problem as well. Like, I know how to use my energy to set up energy traps, but I am not really sure when should I drop and get the guns on target, and enemies often just dive away, it’ll end up either I spend a really long time chasing them on the deck or the fight got disturbed by others.
I think the probem of the AA machanic is that there is no type of prevention for abuse, i think that is perfectly fine to you have a "safe spot" for reloading, reparing and refueling, but without any type of pay off becomes a real problem, maybe only 1 repair per game or even auto angar if you stay too much time in there could help.
Why doesn't it just shoot you up in the air forcing you off the ground and spawned you at 800 kph like on a carrier when you land on it using a air force ejt
The airfield AA sometimes really pisses me off. Once I was going to win a 1v6 but the last guy just ran back to the airfield and stayed there until the tickets bleed and we lost.
