Im often asked how high to cut your grass. Honestly for most UK grasses I would be cutting anywhere from 30mm to 60mm typically.
You need to allow for the one third rule which states never cut off more than 1 third the height of the grass blade in any one cut - you can actually even extend that out even more to a 1 quarter or a 1 fifth rule for even better results..
Honestly mowing more frequently and ONLY taking off the top 20% or so of the blade will repay your efforts handsomely.
As for mowing height, some grasses, like golf course seeds can be cut extremely short... BUT you have to mow much more to keep within that one third rule.. a grass thats only 5mm high could grow to 1cm high, if you cut off just 5mm with the mower thats a massive 50% being cut off!
So for most Uk lawns try and cut 2 to 5 times a week, just taking off he very tips and thank me for it later.
