I am 25 years old and when I see scenes like this I am inspired by good feelings. I hope to grow old that well and with this spirit too! Congratulations! Cheers from Italy!
Hello Danilo! I will turn 69 this year and still love making music as much as I did when I taught myself guitar aged 12! So glad you've enjoyed our recording. Keep the music with you as you grow old! Best wishes - Jules.
Hello, Maria. Thanks so much for your kind words! Chris and I have known each other since January 1975! I taught him how to play guitar that year, and look how good he is! He's the handsome one with the dark jersey!
Had to come back and listen again. This song was written about the woman that tore my heart out( in my world) but I would never have met the love of my life. Now this song makes me smile. Thanks all thumbs up!
That was wonderful, guys! Following a musical aptitude test in the 4th grade (1965 or 6?) the school wanted me to play an instrument in the orchestra. Thankfully my parents enrolled me in guitar lessons instead. But after 3-4 years of lessons and flatpicking tunes out of the old Alfred and Mel Bay books, I could play but it wasn't a passion for me. Finally Dad found a college kid who put himself through school playing folk music on the lounge circuit between Seattle and Tacoma and I took lessons from him for a year. Dylan, PP&M, Croce, later Don McLean - learning fingerstyle - by high school I couldn't walk past my guitar without noodling on it for awhile. "Veg'ing out" mom and dad called it. It's one of the most wonderful gifts my parents gave to me and still brings pleasure. The PP&M cover that really turned me on to folk music and even writing my own tunes was the Springhill Mining Disaster song. The poignancy of the lyrics and sorrowful tune hooked me for good. I'll be checking out the rest of your videos - and no doubt grab my Larrivee to play along. Hope you Martin boys don't mind that none. ;^) Thank you! And blessings to the both of you!
Hello IL Blues. Thanks so much for your kind words and your really interesting guitar journey. We’d be delighted if you play along with us! We’re both musicians who play by ear and can’t even read or write TAB! Yes, that Springfield song by PPM is really powerful. Chris and I plan to upload some new material soon after being separated for nearly two-and-a-half years by Covid. Stick with us and hang in there.
I am young 23 year old guitar player who genuinely appreciates the music from the 60's. Its so inspiring to see you guys still continue to play Dylan and keep the candle burning. I hope to be playing Dylan when I am your age :)
Lou - that's such lovely feedback. I was 23 once (when I was married in 1978 - still hitched to the same lady!) and have been playing guitar for 54 years (I'm the guy in the light blue top). It is just as inspiring for us old guys to know that there are fantastic folks like you out there who love the music and don't care about the age void. Today, when I play an Am chord or whatever, my body still thrills to the sound and feel through my bones just as much as it did when I was 12 and teaching myself guitar. I had no books and knew nobody who played so taught myself entirely by ear, working out the chords by listening mainly to Peter Paul & Mary - and this song especially. Music is a wonderful thing. I wish you decades of joy and fulfillment and thank you so much again for your wonderful words!
I forgot to add that Chris and I met in our first year as undergraduates at university in 1975. He had never held a guitar before and I taught him how to play. He is a really excellent guitarist all these decades later and does some fantastic covers of the likes of John Renbourn. Still playing together after all those years - apart from Covid!
@@JulesPellattMessyStudySessions Oh Wow, that speaks out of my heart, guys ! I'm 68 now and I still feel that same thrill as you when I play those songs of long ago .....
Hi Jerry. Thanks so much for your kind appreciation. We struggle to find enough time to record together these days; but we have a list of material we plan to record and upload, however long it may take. Hopefully at least one new recording will be uploaded by September.
This is beautifully done. Kudos to you both for a spirited and uplifting rendition of this iconic tune. Thanks for posting, Do more, if you would. We need it. Cheers!
Thank you so much, Madzmi! Covid has kept us apart for nearly one-and-a-half years, but we plan to upload some new material very soon. If you've not already done so Subscribe and activate the Notifications bell to receive automatic updates when we upload new material. Thanks for your support.
Thanks again, Peter! I hope you find stuff that may be enjoyable and/or useful. I appreciate you visiting my channel and taking the trouble to feedback. Best wishes ...
I’m such a sucker for every time I see another great cover of this Dylan.favorite. (As my daughter astutely pointed out “Dad, everyone does Dylan better than Dylan.”🤣)
Hello Mike - Thank you so much for such kind feedback. We just love the music and are amateurs putting it together in our spare time. So glad it has given you pleasure!
Hi George - So glad you enjoyed our recording. Check out our other collaborations in the Jules& Chris playlist. Thanks very much for visiting the channel and taking the time to give us feedback.
Yup, they got it. I know because this is my favorite song and PPM did the definitive version of it. I also learned the guitar solo on it, 40 years ago, just about like this…
@@hangdogit Thanks Hsngdog! Wonderful you learnt the guitar with this version of the song! Ditto myself! I practised for hours in the boot room of my hostel at boarding school until I had nailed the PPM guitar parts.
WOW! That was perfect! You guys play and sing great. I think Peter, Paul and Mary would be very pleased with that. That was a LOT(!) of work. Great job!!! Thanks!
Beautiful, just beautiful. I would love an explanation of why I was given no musical talent. No rhythm, no memory, no hand eye coordination and small hands. But I do appreciate good music, and will support it as much as I can. Thanks.
Hello Miguel. Thank you for your kind words. Music is as much about the listener as the player. You are blessed with an appreciation of music and I am glad for you.
Thank you, John, for your kind words. Much appreciated. Chris and I are hoping to upload some new duo collaborations very soon. first time in two years!
Thanks so much, Susan! Have you checked out our cover of PPM's '"Polly Von"? If not here is the URL: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vMnabzrvkFo.html I've done 14 other PPM covers. Use the Search function and key in "Peter Paul and Mary" and you will find them easily.
Beautiful to see and hear this youngmans playing together Much more then twice I listened your version of this song . and I love it .Keep going and please play more such kind of songs !
Cheers, Paul! We really appreciate your feedback. Would love to have you with us at a BBQ!! Chris and I have been separated for nearly two-and-a-half years by this Covid monster. But we're hoping very soon to upload some new duo material.
Wow congrats on your luck at still having a voice. I'm 74 and mine is about gone. Next step to play with capos to try to get to a pitch that I can handle. Thanks for beautiful performance, and inspiring for old timers
I’m planning to play the song for a Valentines Day event in Susan Tedeshi style but maybe with a friend harmonizing now. Sounds so nice! Thank you for sharing.
