Filmed at RAF Coningsby 23/5/16 a Typhoon aborts take off after a puncture to both rear tyres. Pilot managed to keep the aircraft under control and bring it safely to a stop. licensed with Newslare www.newsflare.com/video/72971/...
Worked on typhoon at leuchars. The brakes arent like your car brakes. They are operated by an electronic switch in the cockpit on the lh instrument panel just to the rear of the seat. Its either on or off. The foot pedals / rudder pedals are feet free when taking off (ive also flown in the back of one whilst performing a virtical take off) It is highly likely he picked up fod off the taxyway and ser off with them underinflated. Over heating them through flexing and causing them to blow. Certainly not "riding the brakes" thats just not possible in this aircraft.
Not really. They are designed much like an f1 car clutch with multuple plates and discs. There would have to be a catastrophic hydraulic failure. And that would show up.
+tom farrow usually in the sky....lol no they go wherever theyre needed/told. the guy in the back is usually an instructor for the pilot in front. or sometimes used as a laser designator pod operator for paveway bombs.... not yet released to service 100% though.
Oops, hope the pilot bought a round for the mechs that had to change out both mains. Pilots forgot to release parking brake after doing a control check at Miramar and blew both tires plus ground the rims and brakes down to the axles needing a crane to remove A/C from runway. They proved an F-14 in full afterburner will skid with brakes on.
They responded on a 'Local Standby'. If you look at the start of the video theres only one fire appliance parked outside of the fire section. After the blowout there are 3 appliances out the front (which will be manned by firefighters fully rigged and ready to go). The controller would have hit the crash alarm and rang fire control with further info.
+Ringway Manchester thank you, yeah that was my plan to film some traffic with ATC, captured a ton of footage before this happened so will upload those sometime soon
hi Paul, I have never seen that before, look at the starboard wheel it wobbles before bursting, putting sideward pressure on the port wheel ,great footage, nice one m8 lol.👍 😃
I met this Tiffy Pilot at Sunderland armed forces day, he's the ginger haired geezer lol was the typhoon display pilot a few uears ago, lovely guy to chat to, but however I bet that patch of grass wont ever regrow back lol
+bobsurgranny I got this week off work so I'm going to be filming at Coningsby or Donna nook. I think after today coningsby might be shut for a few days as the tarmac suffered damage. I'm taking a risk by going to Donna nook in the off chance there will be some range use and capture some decent bombing runs...either that or a sun tan and build some sand castles LOL Managed to work out how to separately record ATC/pilot audio to be embedded into video like this video and want to capture bomb scores at Donna. if I get some bomb runs it should turn out into some great footage
Excellent example that the most useless thing in aviation is runway that's behind you. I'm wondering if the sequence was more like decision to abort, jump on brakes, blow tyres because abs not functioning?
I still haven't found out exactly what happened. Heard a few reasons, 1 being that his kit bag slipped behind the seat and hit the parking brake...could be B.S. who knows
