Downpipe Removal. Audi C5 Allroad (Manual Transmission) and B5 S4

Be paitient with those turbo flange nuts. They often break off. They almost never get remove on automatics so they may need heat.

I am currently having a BASTARD of a time getting proper access to the remaining two upper turbo flange nuts off the drivers side (bank 2) down pipe of my ‘02 Allroad 2.7t (APB engine) w/TipTronic… 😪 Got the turbo heat shield fully loosened and able to move around but to no avail yet. I think I might of even had tears of despair and failure dried on my face last night when I force-quit and came inside. This video gives me a couple more ideas and things to do, such as readjusting the height of the trans and the usage of flex-head ratcheting wrenches. Because of this, my vigor has been completely renewed and I am now going outside to do it, as there is no try, only do.🫡 I’ve scoured the web for videos about this specific procedure for additional information until now and not even the digital factory service manual I have for the 2.7t engine does not include the detailed perspective and tips contained in this excellent video. I am very appreciative of the quality work done here.

Thanks. Note: this is for cars with manual transmission/gear box. The automatic trans is wider, but the up stream catalytic converters are smaller. I have never remove one with the engine in the car, so I cannot tell the difficulty of those. Also if you can get the oxygen/lambda sensors out before removing the pipe, that helps.

I have an 03 Allroad. I just pulled the transmission out of to replace the clutch. This video was a great help in remembering what order to put everything back into the car. Thanks again! I'll be checking out your other videos!

Yes, it is fixable, you can either reuse the same stud/nut that came out or buy new stud and nut. To insert the new stud, lock 2 nuts together on the stud by turning each other in opposite direction. Use the top nut to screw in the stud until tight then remove the nuts. Depending on which one, space will be thight but it's doable. Thanks for watching and commenting.

It is hard to say. I do this everytime I change clutch...but that is only part of another job. I did this video to share so it take longer than usual because of the camera work. I work alone and have no one to hold the camera so it is very time consuming. If you have all the tools require on the floor and an way to loosen rusted nut then about an hour or so.

Thanks. Sorry, I am not familiar with the A8L. Usually if the cat is bad, or become defective after removal, the ECU will store a code "efficiency below, or above threshold" or something similar, not limp mode. At least on other Audi cars that use the 4.2L

Hey thanks for the prompt reply! My cats are almost choked so I was thinking of removing them all together. Will the "efficiency below, or above threshold" readings cause a check engine light by any chance? Just trying to find a way to remove the cats with everything else functioning as it should and no errors.

Yes engine check light will be on. If there is no exhaust leak...meaning no holes in the downpipe pipe, I would not remove them just yet. There are ways to fool the ECU until you can take care of it. Look it up. Removing the DP on automatics is hard. The nuts often rusted and freeze...then break off if no heat is used. Space is super tight too.

You can "code" or reprogram the ECU. Look in the Audi Forums. People there can help you.
