I wish there were more Sybil scenes to make up for the time she wasn't there. Matthew always had a soft spot for Sybil, he treated her like a little sister he was proud of :) Warmed my heart. And I love how both Matthew and Sybil brought out the best in Mary always.
@@emmalucia1412 Yes, I read that too. they were supposed to start liking each other after Matthew rescued her from that riot but because Dan and Michelle's onscreen chemistry was so good Fellowes went with them as a couple. I often wondered if Fellowes regretted that when Dan and Jessica did not want to renew their contracts for there more years. It would have been a lot easier. He could have had them move to Manchester with them still providing an heir for Robert.
@@melvawages7143 Do you think that would have worked? Would the Crawleys really have said, "Okay, as long as there's a baby, you can go on with your lives." And could they have made the rest of the seasons without having Matthew or Sibyl there, even for visits?
considering the first season took place right around the time of the sinking of the Titanic and the current season is in 1925, I must say that each character has aged exceptionally well over 13 years!
It took 6 years to film Downton from 1912-1925. And Mary and Edith did age in real life, and on the show. Cora actually looks better in the final season than the first. Daisy didn't really age at all though. Carson's and Robert's hair went white. Edith changed the most on the show- from pale and frumpy, to looking better than Mary in the end
Thomas Barrow had the most growth. He went from evil, conniving footman to miserable lonely and finally to someone that accepted his sexuality and made peace with himself
I wish the scene between Lord Grantham and Lady Edith had made it into that episode. It conveyed a closer relationship between the Earl and his middle daughter and the gravity of his decision regarding the entail. It was a magnificent scene
For some reason I don't have deleted scenes on my dvd's so it was nice to see this. Imagine Mrs Patmore and Mrs Hughes going at each others' throats like that! And they were such good friends later on. Loved the scene between Edith and her father. Her looks sure improved over the 6 years the show was on.
That scene in Episode 1 with Robert and Edith is so different from other scenes. I doubt Alistair was around when they shot it. So much touching and hugging, like it didn’t happen in the early 1900s. They almost never used close ups like they did here. What a different the music makes!
I believe that on Season 1, Mrs. Patmore are meant to be the antagonist, somehow, but they changed their minds and Mrs. Patmore is weirdly become more bubbly and sarcastic instead of plain nasty the way she was in Season 1
I'm glad Mr. Carson's talk to Anna was gone, works better without seeing it. The battle with Hughes and Pattmore over the grocery was best left out, especially since the series has always played them up as good friends
In fellowes movie "gosford park" the housekeeper and the cook are sisters who hate each other. Added tension below stairs. I assume it was an idea he considered and discarded for this show
@@maureenogorman8740 I must say I'm glad they did. In the end one of my favourite things was the friendship between Mrs Hughes and Mrs Patmore. They both rely on and support one another, I think that's really sweet. I'd much rather watch that than the two of them being at each others throats all the time
@3:20 Okay, That Was Definitely Not Included. I love the scenes between Mrs. Patmore and Mrs. Hughs but Mrs. Hughs showing her Scottish side reaaaaally are one of my favourites!! 😂😂❤
The scene with Edith and Lord Grantham was included in the American version, but it was a bit different. Edith didn't mention Mary, she just held hands with her father.
thanks for sharing ... i really love this serie, when i watch it on tv i really get transported to a paradise ... even life in those days was not easy, specially for women, always been like a problem for parents, trying to find a good catch to marry them with; but there were still manners and romance and gentlemen...
As much as I like 5he show, I dont think there were any more manners, romance, and gentleman than there are now. Ur seeing it through a romanticized lense.
IF Edith, Mary, and Robert knew Patrick Crawley so well, his height, face, why didn't they see that Patrick Crawley in Season 2 was a fake. The worst Downton episode ever! Even if his face was burned, they would recognize his body, eyes, etc.
well it was around 4 years since they had last seen him.. So i can't fault them to much. And i think only Edith truly believed him but she was desperate for him to be alive.
Who says he was a fake? It seemed left up in the air ro me. Anyway, either way, it was a silly story. How can you not recognize someone from their voice and eyes?
You never get privacy on your own land. You get tenants poking their noses into your business and people watching to see when your car arrives and leaves and at what time in the morning your curtains open. I have been through it all. If you want privacy, live in a city.
