Pretty sure the only reason Dr Manhatten changed the universe was to stop Batman and Superman from wearing their underwear wrong.

What's interesting is that in Flash Rebirth (the original) Eobard Thawne mentions the original timeline where Barry's parents were both alive and were elderly.

DC executives: we need to simplify everything to attract new readers. Writer: how about rebooting and retconning everything by making them even more complicated? DC executives: you're a genius!

The whole "they are still living in the same universe, their minds have just been altered" doesn't add up with the fact that at one point we had 2 supermen and 2 lois lanes, but that Dr Manhattan created the DC universe is awesome.

This is crazy, I had a similar fan theory to this for the longest, I remember first seeing Watchmen and taking note of how Dr Manhattan said he might create his own worlds after leaving Earth and I had a mindblowing idea that maybe he ended up creating the DC universe, obviously there's no literal chance but it's a fun concept

I find it interesting that the two characters that are most important to Flashpoint besides The Flash and maybe Thomas Wayne have the best of the current DC movies, but the Flashpoint movie is going to be different than the comic book storyline. And it's not like the CW where they literally weren't allowed to have most of the characters in the storyline, no, a film can use them! But whoever is writing it wants to do it differently!

I think that the golden age of DC is completely fictional. In Watchmen somebody mentiones Flash and Superman in one panel, and when Manhattan decided to leave his Earth to create a new universe he decided to make up a new one with those DC Publications in mind (which is why Superman and Flash are center pieces so far in the Watchmen mystery, of course Batman is also there) This is also why when Flash first appeared he got inspired by Jay Garrick comics, but later met him IRL, Manhattan made him real

I think DrM did alter the DCU, but not create it. The amnesia theory doesn't work, too many things would make no sense to people if that happened. I think DrM changed the history at Flashpoint, when Flash reset it, and removed key parts of the history. Why? I don't know, except that maybe he saw this universe heading in the same direction as the one he originated in and wanted to stop it.

This is the first time I heard of that theory I love it I remember the hand it's in cartoons and all the old comics that would be a really great full circle

My theory was always that dr m didnt create he just found and experimented. I would like to reference the Batman Flash story where reverse flash met dr. Manhattan and was instantaneously killed dr. it makes Dr Manhatten far more powerful than what he's depicted as previously if he can create Universes wipe the memory of everyone control every single particle in the universe and also know the future since everything in that universe was created from him. So Dr Manhatten is essentially God. He knows that past the present and the future where every single thing is and can control every single thing.

My practical theory - New 52 was a failed experiment and they are trying not to create Crisis 2 because fans old will label it as such and new fans will be so confused. I offer Armageddon 2001 storyline as my reasoning - when fans started to realize before the great reveal that Captain Atom was destined to be the villain Monarch, writers Archie Goodwin and Dennis O'Neil reconsidered their ending (an article I read cited "nerves" as the reason) and made Hawk the Monarch which was confusing and a let down to fans. Over several years, DC revisited the concepts of 2001 and tried to employ Atom as Monarch, explain Hawk's ridiculous power upgrade, etc. and it just didn't take (i.e. low sales). They introduced new, epic powered heroes and alot of promises that just didn't sell very well. So it went the way of the Ether. Fast forward to the last decade - new creative teams and owners want to get the spark that they found in the new medias of film and TV, so they introduce after an array of storylines that nearly collapse the print company (on top of the inflated 90's market) the 52 - a year without Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. Some ideas were interesting, but not many and when Jim Lee and Wildstorm are brought into the fold, they go for another attempted boost - I mean kudos for Johns and his return of Hal Jordan (all the other Lanterns except for Stewart just didn't sell - and Stewart was a TV icon more than print) and then Barry Allen (although, again Wally West was everyone's Flash a la Justice League Animated Series) which lead itself to Flashpoint. Johns pull in DC earned him the opportunity to reach out and do stories for 2 of his favorite characters GL Jordan and Flash Allen. Johns skill and nuanced stories drove the company to push it all further, and with the acquisition of Lee, they figured DC now had a hand on the new Zeigeist (One of Marvel's greatest artists and Geoff Johns) - and that is where it went wonky. New 52 was the answer to the Marvel Ultimates - a fresh start for DC with younger, hipper folks at the helm. But it was riddled with issues - Batman is a mainstay and his whole comic run is not just canon for diehards, but also for TV and media folks - so he cannot change. Superman had waning sales, so they give him a shot and Wonder Woman, but GL was given to Johns before this, so it couldn't be revamped too much (Johns just brought back Hal and had intentions for him) - Flashpoint as an Earth only event made little sense, IMO, because Superman was off Earth in both stories (crashing to Earth long ago, but GL established the Flashpoint effects only twisted Earth around) - logistically, you either admit the ripple of circumstance screwed with everything, or the New 52 doesn't work. To try to placate the confused fans and try new things, an assortment of new, wild ideas with little to do with each other were offered. Corrections for past storylines and complicated new storylines lead to more chaos and not the sales results they were looking for. So what do you get - a need for another Crisis (Convergence was the first salvo of that event) - DC's version of Marvel's revamped and also wonky "Secret Wars" - where they try to flesh out some issues and give you some of the things you loved (i.e. Clark and Lois Kent). New 52 Superman dies, Original Superman returns, but no one knows him and now he is the combined Superman (All Supermen are now just Clark Kent - that confused the hell out of me. I do think it will be why I think Clark is the only one that can "deal" with Dr. Manhattan - not that I understand the "logic". I am guessing it is Superman being a "singularity" like Dr. Manhattan - without either, their worlds would never have existed or something like that. Meanwhile, a rabbit hole of crazy stuff that will culminate in another statement that all the DC omniverse is just one universe on one timeline. JSA are old JL with Legion of Superheroes being the future Intergalactic JL and these "truths" being the idealized world of a dreaming god like Dr. Manhattan, who saw his Earth collapsing into an inevitable Apocalypse and turned it from that by introducing superheroes to the world sooner than he arrived. If his world couldn't be the utopia the Watchmen sought to establish, then he would experiment to see if it was possible anywhere else. But in the writers' bullpen - a new Crisis meant to restart a new DC universe softly and bring back some old IP's before the company loses the rights. Doomsday Clock is weird and interesting and has many layers of curiosity both in the pages and outside. I am looking to see where this goes, but I think it will be Armageddon 2001 - "nerves" and the story will be jumbled around to try to deliver on its suspenseful promises.

And I was on Amazon wondering if I could buy a single DOOMSDAY CLOCK book for Kindle, and while staring at the art on the cover of Rebirth The Deluxe Edition, I heard softly in Rob's voice... Did you know that originally Dr. Manhattan could only destroy 60% of all the world's nukes? The only reason the Russians didn't attack is because they thought he was all-powerful. In reality, they could have launched their entire arsenal and still have left a wasteland, that's why people were so worried. Because even dr manhattan, someone considered a god, couldn't save them. This is not explained in the watchmen story itself, but on the articles and stories they put at the very end of every chapter.

Why no Cyborg Rebirth? I don't see it anywhere. He is becoming one of the more popular DC heroes now. He's been one of my favorites, for years! And not because of the Teen Titans animated series (plural). He's on his way to becoming much more powerful, with his addition into JL. He will just keep assimilating more and more technologies, into himself. That...and the story of him trying to figure out if he is still human, or just machine, is a fantastic "Coming of Age" story. Just something I would have liked to have seen. Love your channel, your videos, and that you are Kentucky Wildcats fan even though you're from Tennessee. Lol!

We do know that Dr Manhattan can create and destroy universes. So, it is not impossible that he took the original universe as a basis and made him own. I would also say Dr Manhattan is a perfectionist and he has been trying to make his ideal universe for a while. Each time a universe fails his test; we would wipe it out and start with a new version. All done in order to make a universe that matches his expectations.

I have to say that it’s a bit confusing to go from your CoIE video to this when running the playlist. Could you please make some videos that cover some of the big stories between CoIE and Flashpoint? Stories like Death in the Family, the Death of Superman, the Fall of Hal Jordan, Zero Hour, Identity Crisis and all of the events leading up to and including Infinite Crisis, old 52, all the stuff with the different colored Lanterns, Final Crisis, and so on? I know that’s a lot to cover, but I think it would be good content for you to make. EDIT: Oh, I can see now that you’ve done at least some of those. I recently rewatched the Watchmen film and noticed that at the end that in a conversation between Silk Spectre and Dr. Manhattan, when she asks him about caring for life - he says: "I do. I think maybe I'll create some". What if after leaving the galaxy, he went on to create the DC Universe? Would this fit the current theories? Can't wait to see what the end game is!

From my entry into this, the idea comes out of Before Watchmen, a line from Newsarama, and Geoff saying that when you pick up Rebirth #1 that fans will find out what the DCU really is. Would explain the endless continuity changes, especially the ones not part of an event or Superboy Prime.

I like this and it ties everything in a nice bow. The fact that Dr. Manhattan even stated that he may create life leaves things open-ended to create a whole new universe. For DC to bring the beloved Watchmen into the DC universe knowing full well the importance of the story of The Watchmen to fans, I can only see something like this theory coming to fruition.
