@M3 Competition Racer . Yes but the A45s and M2 are not direct competitors for the Golf R as they’re vastly more expensive . The A35 and M135i are though and they got dusted . Be interesting to see the golf against them though as , especially if it was even slightly damp I think the M2 would get its pants pulled down by the R !

It's really that IS38 turbo that has a good top end and good power delivery over the RPM range, it's a turbo that VW that been putting on the Rs for the last 8 years. The tuning potential these turbos hold is amazing too.

They have been on the dyno and produced in excess of 340hp

Carwow took it to the dyno. It did 325hp. So that’s +5hp. Where the quickness comes from is the understated torque. It was claimed at 420Nm but it makes almost 500Nm, 478Nm to be exact. For reference, the AMG A45 S and M140i make 500Nm of torque.

Mal ne Frage an alle 8R Fahrer...beim rolling Race ist da nicht die Driftmode einstellung der Allradeinstelkung überlegen? Da die Kraft stärker auf die Hinterräder gelenkt wird? Und könnte man zum Start aus dem Stand den Allrade/Race Mode nutzen und dann ab z.b. 100kmhbauf den Driftmode umschalten um mehr Vortrieb zu bekommen? Und somit z.b. bessere 1/4 Meilen Zeiten zu erzielen wie komplett im Allrad zu fahren? Über Feedback wäre ich dankbar :)

Funny, the R is ALSO nearly destroying the RS3 and m2 competition which is beaten by the AMG 45s , so something is strange about this competition the predecessor R with almost identical power is much slower. so I can't belive this..

Somebody mentionned that a dyno of a customer-R shows a real Power of over 354 hp and 450 Nm. Don‘t forget the R weight just 1.520 kg (A45s: 1.640 kg) an has a very good aerodynamic (scx; 0,67 vs 0,81 for the A45).Maybe VW has mentionned 320 hp on the wheels this could explaine this performance. Real power on the crank over 360 hp. Combined with the lighter carrosserie, the better aero the R is equal to the A45s. Its just a theory.

Yes. The weight without driver is 1476 kg for the R. Its not so heavy like the adversaires. But this is fact in 2021. Its an all direct adversaires. If you want an light car you must buy old rubbish. Thats the fact.

I reckon the 8R vs A45 facelift from 2016 (380hp) would be a great race. Throw in the BMW M140i and you'd have an amazing battle - evidently the 8R is a step ahead of the rivals in its class.

@@TheSuperSwain You don't know that for sure. Problem 1 we don't know if that car has been modified VW already stated its no faster 0 to 60 than a MK7.5. So how do you explain a car with only 25 hp more and the same torque as a MK 7.5 pulling this hard? Number 2 no one is going to know for sure until the MK 8 is reviewed by reputable sources or actually put up against a stock MK 7.5. Number 3 we don't know what upgrades VW did to the engine is it just a software returned or did they change hardware turbo, intercooler. Pistons. High pressure pump. Either way an APR high torque tune and DSG tune on a MK7.5 will walk a stock MK8.

@@rickmcsheridan5319 the 7.5 hasn't got the same torque as the 8. 7.5 is 380nm and the 8 is 420nm.

When Audi say no to VW with their 5 cilinder engine. VW just say, hold my beer we dont need it?! And this is what happened. This Golf lrobably have like 340-50hp. It destroy these two!

@@MrTARIQSs nope, they give it to Seat bot not in hatchback variant, they give it in detuned version with 390hp for Seat Formentor. The reson why they say no to VW is because if they put that engine in Golf, nobody would buy RS3, same is with Golf R and S3, everybody buy Golf R, and thats the main reason why Golf get more power and drift mode, to separete it from S3!
