Draggin Rebel Motorcycle Jeans Review: One of the most common things I get asked about on the TMF channel is about the protective gear I wear. I'm an "all the gear all the time" type of motorcyclist but that doesn't necessarily mean you have to be bound up like a kipper in a straight jacket - in the summer I like to wear proper Kevlar protected jeans and so far I've come across none better that these Rebel Jeans from Australian manufacturer Draggin....here's my review after wearing them for the last year or so....

18 degrees, leafy lanes - distant memories. Great video, thanks for the review. I've been thinking about getting a pair of these for a while now so it's good to hear other riders' views. Thanks.

Thanks for the review TMF. As others have commented, take a look at HOOD jeans. British manufactured and incredibly strong and well made. I've owned the same pair over 10 years, and they just won't die! Currently around the £100 mark I think.

Whoo hoo, finally something you poms have to pay more for than we do! Excellent product, I bought my first pair of Draggins about 2005 after witnessing their creator Ken McIntosh hop off the rear of a bike doing 120ks down the main straight at Eastern Creek and slide on his arse to a halt with little of no damage to the kevlar (the denim was totally shredded). I haven't tested them myself but they are tuff, comfortable and generally durable. I also have a pair of Draggin Chinos for more formal outings when I need to look a bit more posh! They are hot in our climate, but like you I always go full cover, even last summer at 47degrees...

Thanks for another great review TMF. It’s great that most riders wear proper kit in this country and it always makes me shudder when I go abroad and see riders in shorts and flip flops! Biker jeans are a great option. I use Dainese D1s and have found them pretty good. I’ll have a look at Draggin next time I’m in the market. Keep up the good work Sir.

Another jean I recommend is the Klim K Fifty 2. They are my first pair of riding jeans but they are extremely comfortable, the armor is comfortable, the fit is nice, and they don't look like a riding jean at all. The internal mesh lining nice against the skin and the armor has ample adjustability. I highly recommend. Good review by the way, I really enjoy your channel. Cheers from the States!

Thanks TMF, great review. I wear Resurgence Pekev cafe racer jeans, which feel great. I use the D30 knee pads. They feel amazing and have Kevlar sewn into the fabric of the jeans rather than an inner liner.

Well again thanks to you and others I did some research and Hood Jeans fitted the bill. Bought via their website and had a personal email from Julie that the order would arrive in 7 days and how did I find the company. www.hoodjeans.co.uk/ I mentioned that TheMissedenFlyer on his You tube channel was reviewing his Draggin Jeans and he rated them highly. However others mentioned about "Hood Jeans" and that's how I found the website. (bazer wazer)

Great review. If you get the chance you should try the Knox Buxton jeans - £199. The are super comfortable, come in a range of tailored sizes, are supplied with D30 knee and hip protectors (all removable) and then knee protectors can be adjusted for position (up and down). They are made with Spectra which delivers more protection than Kevlar - dressing for the slide not the ride... Another cool feature is that you can remove the knee armour without having to take the jeans off, so if you are out and about you can easily remove the armour once off the bike. I am a big fan of Knox as they kit (gloves, jeans and body armour) always seems to be well made and thought through. A good UK firm too who are always ready to take feedback and communicate well with their customers. Might be worth chatting to them for future kit reviews.

Very useful video. I have just bought a pair and have the exact issue you had - too long and knee protection doesn't work as it is in the wrong place. I was thinking I would have been better off using separate knee pads that attach directly to my legs and this has confirmed that.
@Vernon240
@Vernon240 6 лет назад
I have exactly the same issue with the knee armour and thought 'I just have my knees in the wrong place!'..and had all those thoughts of self doubt..the shame of it....but then I find the mighty TMF has the same issue, so all must be right with the world! Popped over to sportsbike shop and found some of those knee protectors that you show..or similar, so will be ordering! I like to thread a jacket connector on my belt so I can attached any of my jeans to one of my jackets that have short zips...it's a belt and br err zips approach! And you have a compressor! (another use for the ear plugs then, but great for ACF application). Surely if you are concerned about people staring at you wearing motorcycle gear, your solution is close to hand. A TMF hoodie. Although from what you say, that may attract a different sort of attention and get you into all sorts or trouble with the laydees.....hmm..though one...
@TheMissendenFlyer
@TheMissendenFlyer 6 лет назад
Well spotted on the compressor - that's for next season's ACF applications...stay tuned! ...and I have enough trouble with the fairer sex without inviting more by wearing one of my hoodies, those things attract the chicks like you wouldn't believe!!....wear with caution as you'll become a walking F Magnet if you're not careful....
@Vernon240
@Vernon240 6 лет назад
I used one of these...or something very similar.. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mini-Air-Spray-Spray-Paint-Gun-Blending-Touch-Up-Crafts-Car-Bike-Motorbike/350714897504?hash=item51a83ca460:g:0DQAAOxyJ59RG3z9 Really atomise the ACF well....but I'd advise outside use! I may have to order a hoodie and compare it with a teapot one hoodie and see who wins in the battle of the babe magnets...

Excellent review! I used same idea for the knees guards. I wonder how will the hold with tank grip pads which chew through my leathers after 12 months. I had to stop using jeans as back then it was one size/style fit all (all as in nationwide) but nowadays you can get all kinds of style so I’m keen to get a pair for the summer.
@IanH-UK
@IanH-UK 6 лет назад
I've been sold on single layer biker jeans .. these have kevlar woven into the denim so no need to have separate layer of kevlar. You get jeans which are less bulky and aren't so hot in summer. Bullit One skin (blue) and Suus Road Denim (black) - worth checking out.

I have been wearing Draggin jeans since 2006 and swear by them; wear them every ride except wet days when I wear my textile waterproofs. Ideal for the Aussie climate all year round. I believe they have added length to the legs to allow for them riding up when positioned on your bike. It is recommended to follow the washing instructions to maintain the integrity of the Kevlar material. They are expensive but last ages and do what they say👍
@C...G...
@C...G... 6 лет назад
Peter Y your comment has almost got me thinking that you've been wearing the same pair of jeans almost every day since 2006, that would be a pair of jeans that lasts 12 years...you haven't, have you!?!?! lol :-)
@TheMissendenFlyer
@TheMissendenFlyer 6 лет назад
Wouldn't surprise me if they lasted that long - since I made this video I had an "off" in them and the jeans are completely unscathed!

That’s funny, I have purchased a few, however still have my originals at home somewhere and apart from fading from washing and the sun, are still intact but I have put on a kilo or two and they just no longer fit comfortably sadly. I optimistically keep them hoping to lose that kilo😂

I am a 32" inseam and because I'm a slim build (not quite chicken legs but not far off) I have problems with jeans full stop. I've tried most of the brands mentioned so far in the comments but most of them swamp my legs. I've recently bought a pair of Knox Dalton ones though and they are superb. They are the one layer variety made out of Dyneema which I think is sort of kevlar-impregnated denim. They are a slim fit and fit me brilliantly. The (supplied) hip and knee armour is exactly where you need it and practically invisible and they have a 33" inseam so have enough length to not ride up over short boots. Not cheap but, for a single layer pair of really well made jeans with quality armour, £278 is IMHO pretty good. Much underrated company in my experience, Knox.

Great video promoting protective clothing but you could have got more for less from a British manufacturer, Hood Jeans. Fully kevlar protected, not part protected like these and so many others. I like all the skin on my legs, not just patches of it! I am not affiliated with Hood, just a customer.
@TheMissendenFlyer
@TheMissendenFlyer 6 лет назад
You're the third person to mention hood jeans - don't you find them a bit bulky to wear casually though?
@HeadhunterUK007
@HeadhunterUK007 6 лет назад
They are quite a thick Jean yes, they look thicker than your Draggin's, but not uncomfortable. I wouldn't want to wear the Hood's in 25 degrees+ for long periods, they would probably be a bit too warm for me. On the plus side I can wear them in cooler to mid temperatures, where other jeans would perhaps be too cold. Pros and cons to each I suppose and depends where your priorities are. I can see a case for both.

Mate, get yourself up to Norwich and get a pair of Hood jeans. They are 100% British made by a family firm, and they are without doubt (in my mind, at least) the very best riding jeans on the market. They have a *full* para-aramid (kevlar) lining from the waist to the ankles, and you can put armor in as well (which is adjustable on velcro - no pockets - so you can get it in just the right spot). In every test I've ever seen, they stand up to actual use better than Draggin' jeans or other ones that are only partially lined. They are about to release a new lineup of jeans (they do army greens and ones that look like what we Yanks would call "khakis" as well) that conform to the new CE rules for Personal Protective Equipment as well. Also, they're cheaper than the Draggin' jeans, at £150 (for the new ones, they're closing out the old ones for £95 without the armor) as well.
@TheMissendenFlyer
@TheMissendenFlyer 6 лет назад
I'm hearing good things about them from several comments here!
@tdunster2011
@tdunster2011 5 лет назад
kevlar to the ankle is a complete waste of time. Because if your boots not protecting your shins and ankles I don't care how good the jeans are - that foots as good as gone. Hood Jeans are good but Draggins are next level good. They offer independently tested 7+ second protection and they are as soft and comfortable as any regular Denim jean you care to name.Hood's don't offer the same level of slide protection and are not as comfortable - particularly the kevlar liner which is harsh and irritating in the K7. new version might have addressed this though.

Been using a pair of Draggin jeans for the last 4 years. The knee pads and hip pads are fine for me, particularly riding a sports bike the pads are in the correct position. They were expensive but are lasting quite well. Beware of being spammed with too many emails from Draggin, their marketing is relentless and frequent... Cheers for the review :-)

Hi sir. I have a pair of Draggin Jeans but they are not "rebels". They have kevlar but no armor. They have really lasted a long time and are very comfortable.On mine you can see where the kevlar is by the stitching on the outside, so they are a little less attractive but very functional. I have had mine many years too and they were $95.00 when I bought them at least 10 years ago. Thanks for another good video. Ride safe....Sal : )

On my second pair of Draggins. 2nd set are cargoes for touring. I use my boot cut for commuting now. I can vouch for crash worthiness at low speed and a short slide (long story, involves beer). What I enjoy the most now is the confidence experienced when riding with them. Not the first brand I tried but I did learn to AVOID Neo Jeans. These didn’t last 9 months before the crotch rotted through. Yes you read that correctly. I cared for them as per garment instructions but even with a (supposed) Kevlar lining they wore through. Glad I never had to find out if it was actual Kevlar or vague yellow mesh fabric. Oh and I enjoy being a ‘Numpty Power Ranger’. The best bit is not the squeaky leather, storm trooper boots, knuckle duster gloves, blue and red blinking LED SENA or full face with dark visor but when the attendant at the counter asks you to remove your helmet before you are allowed to complete your purchase, even though there is complete lack of a NO HELMET sign at the entrance, only to reveal a helmet liner and then the debate veers into the differences between a balaclava and a helmet liner (which has the helmet’s same brand emblazoned upon it) but eventuates in a full blown stand off where a stubborn clerk refuses to accept my attempt to pay as I leave the premises still wearing head gear followed by threats of calling the police even though I left cash for the purchase on the counter.
@TheMissendenFlyer

You enjoy that Scott?
@scottkessler186
@scottkessler186 6 лет назад
I enjoy the looks on people’s faces when I stride in with full gear like I’m going to rob the the joint. If there isn’t a no helmet sign on the front door then I’m not taking off the helmet even when asked because it is usually a knee jerk reaction instead of a considered request. The best ones are the ‘it’s the law’ about covering your face on a premises. Can you quote the legislation that says wearing a helmet is illegal? No? Then I’m going to wear my helmet on premises. If you don’t want helmets on premises then put a sign on the door. It’s your right with private property. What I despise is inflated chest thumping cashiers who think they are in charge and you must bow to their will. I follow actual rules not ‘rules’ made up on the spot by control freaks. I’m a motorcyclist not a terrorist. Calm down. Get some perspective.

Never been robbed at gunpoint have you Scott ? Another good vid keep up the good work. After a bit of saving I bought a pair of Bullit SR6 jeans which are extremely comfortable and include the Kevlar 3/4 of the leg length. I paid £120 I think no knee armour included tho ☹️ have to pay extra for that, you would think for £120 they would be included. I stupidly didn’t research enough after watching this video and ordered some Draggin knee pads like the ones in the video (now realising the ones in the video aren’t Draggin) 😞. As with TMF I was really unhappy with the knee pad inserts I got with my Draggin jeans. I’ve just put on my new knee pads and whilst being better than the inserts for the jeans, they are still fairly uncomfortable. Maybe I’ll get used to them.

In regards to the hip protection, Revit's new Seesmart hip protector is extremely thin, CE-1 rated and only $20 USD. Late to the party, but another plus one for Hood jeans, they have just released a new range of jeans, too. By far the best for the price, I have two pairs, one that is snug for summer, and one 2 inches bigger round the waist that I wear with normal jeans underneath for the winter. They don't cheap out, great quality denim, and fully kevlar lined, which is unheard of for the price they sell for, almost everyone else just does bum, knees and maybe outer leg. Free postage, free alterations, free returns, made in the UK, lovely people who work there, D3O protecting as standard, and the armour is adjustable, so the shorter/taller user doesn't have to have knee pads in the same place as everyone else! Can't recommend them enough.

I have a pair of Draggin Next Gen jeans and was able (with much faffing about) to get the knee armor to sit in the right place while on the bike. The real issue is when off the bike and walking the armor is positioned where it gets caught under the kneecap which is intollerably uncomfortable. I think the best sollution is, as you have done, wear knee armor that attaches to the leg and not the jeans.
@epbrown01
@epbrown01 6 лет назад
Ditto - I've got several different brands and though I don't have the fitment issues TMF has, I've found the Forcefield armor much more comfortable (and confidence inspiring) than the stuff in the pockets of any of them. It's also more comfortable off the bike, if for some reason I leave them on, as they stay in position.

You can make some stitching in the knee protector pockets to raise up the pads to where you want them. Stitch it yourself or find you a good seamstress who will do it for you. Had to do that on some elbow pads once. They were more like forearm pads until I had the pockets stitched right.

Tough 13 ounce stretch denim in washed blue and charcoal black•Triple stitching throught the jeans in major impact point areas•Large onepiece protection ( not the small patchwork style made from off cuts).•YKK zippers used throught with high strength button and rivets.•Removable CE rated hard shell armors for both knees and hips as standard with every pair of jeans•The knee armor is removable from outside the jeans ( there is no need to drop your pants to remove the knee armor anymore) using hidden armor pockets and zips -This means you can ride your bike to the party and then remove the armor easily so you don't need to wear it constantly ( we are the first and only manufacturer of motorcycle jeans to do it this way).

Good morning sir. Great vid and an excellent piece of kit as you say. Not as good as leather jeans in a shower or an off, but you do blend-in a bit better and I don’t normally ride so hard when wearing these. I use PMJ jeans (Italian) 😎 and very comfortable indeed. Never fell off though so actually can’t comment on that. Next time could you get ‘Gyrocopter Girl’ to model them. 😜😂😂

Thanks for the video. I have been tossing up whether to buy another set of leathers or riding jeans and new leather jacket for the Australian winter. I Chuckled when you said "a lovely warm day at 18deg C". That is the coldest that it gets here in my part of Australia in the middle of winter during the day. 5 deg C is the overnight cold. I don't know how you guys and girls in Europe ride in the sub zero temperatures. As for your armor not fitting - that is your mums fault. Had she married a taller chap - you would have had longer legs and the jeans would have been a perfect fit. The one thing you didn't cover was how easy or not the jeans are to launder. Do you do anything special with the washing? Look forward to your next video.

Why do the knee pads not appear to fit any rider? Ok, so it's maybe because I'm about the same size as you, but I do virtually the same - wear the jeans with Knox armour knee socks, which feel very secure. Only thing you missed from the video was the reason I bought the Draggin jeans in the first place, which was at the time they were the only CE approved jeans in the world. Don't think the Rebels are the CE lvl2 ones available, but the ones that are would probably feel like you'd wrapped your legs in a duvet.

I have a few pairs of these My Riding school has bought us many. One the Black ones the colour fades very badly to a reddish purple. The green Khaki pair faded blotchy to an orange and they are now beige. They faded on the first day out riding in Nevada. thankfully it wasn't my money i spent on these. I would not recommend them for the reason of colour fastness. They are comfortable, and in very hot weather 46C in the Mojave desert they do protect you from the heat.

It is so important to wear all the CE protectors hip as well as knee as when you come off you need as much protection as you can get. I would also never wear casual shoes always a boot with good ankle and calf support. I wear RST Kevlar jeans and they are available in short, reg and long leg and the pocket is adjustable which means you can get the knee protectors in pretty much the right place for you. I also have Weise jeans as well which are ok but the RST ones are better. However for better protection in between leather is best as if you do come off then leather is a better protector but not so easy to repair. At the end of the day I don't care about what people think of my appearance, my life and limbs are far more important.

I have used the Nikwax spray on for some years on my GrinFactor Kevlar jeans. I ride full-faired bikes (FJR and BMWR1150RT) On a 350 mile journey of 7 hours it rained most of the way, took about 2 hrs or so as "dry" but never became fully soaked until near the end. I feel that the waterproof sprays are fine for local (1hr) journeys but if you need to be totally dry then not so much. Try the stuff out for yourself and see.

Some people have mentioned their knee pad armour moving. The D30 armour is available with or without circular male Velcro tabs. My Resurgence Pekev jeans have the female Velcro patches in the knee area they fix to and the armour sits in a pocket. I suspect most other jeans work in a similar way and they don't move. My advice is get D30 knee pads with the Velcro tabs.

Wearing my kevlar lined jeans with hip & kneed protectors gives me a false sense of confidence. Going around a corner doing the speed limit then going down on some diesel I don't think jeans would really save us as much as we think. Good idea to wear the knee pads with baggy jeans but you should think about the hip protection, this is the area one hits first. Jeans are better than nothing, safe riding TMF.

I dunno, my circa 2003 revit thick cow hide leathers are broken in now and give me a feeling of invincibility that Kevlar lined denim just doesn't do. Thick cow hide vs micro thick Kevlar mmmm. Perhaps we should compare the road rashes of each. I know what I prefer the idea of wearing. I tend to go out biking to ride rather than mooch around at a particular destination, because as you say, leathers on a hot day aren't much fun for walking around in. Perhaps if I rode a cruiser...

TheMissendenFlyer May I say, like street jeans, each brand probably has a different fit. My local dealer (Fowler's in Bristol) stocks Draggin, which is why I bought a pair, but I feel the shape would have fit me better 20 years ago. I stopped off at Hood warehouse on family visit to Norfolk and found their shape more flattering for my age and their boot leg cut easier to take off. They also sewed them to length while I paid for them. Always pays to try before you buy, but not always possible these days of online shopping

Rokkertech jeans are single layer, so much cooler and have been tested to 6+ seconds 'slide time', better than some leathers. The chinos are just as protective, smarter and highly shower proof, so ideal for exploring on wet days. Held make knee armour that can be worn over jeans , more useful if you ask me! Cheers kids!

I wear some rokker black (chino?) jeans and really like them and are surprisingly not hot in the summer-I would buy again. They look and fit very well, use velcro patches on the interior of the pant legs to attach to the knee armor so adjustable to wear you like (though tricky to do). They (rokker) also claim to have waterproof jeans as well and I am tempted. They are pricey though. I like that they test them. They also use a grinder kinda machine that they strap the fabric to when testing abrasion resistance - or so I've read on their website somewhere.

They look great Mate! However compromising the use of the provided knee protection really negates the value you paid for. Your situation may only reflect a worse case scenarios, but still I’ve got to think there’s a better way to accommodate sizing issues in length without giving up any protection value elements designed, intended and most important, paid for with this garment. Not a compromise I’d be happy with if I bought them and realized I couldn’t use the knee protectors because of having them sized to fit me. Thanks for the heads up.

The Hood motorcycle jeans are better quality, made in Britain and are fully Kevlar lined, and have no seams in odd places. Their knee pads are adjustable with Velcro and they adjust them to length included in the price. You can actually visit them in Norfolk by appointment and you can try them on and they’ll turn them up for there and then. Just search them on the web, you won’t be disappointed. Of course how you rate these jeans is massively dependent on how well they fit. We are all different shapes and sizes.
