Nice to see a responsible drain , numbing, cleaning area. Not just jamming an exacto knife in with no sedative or lidocaine like so many other videos I’ve seen. Thanks Doc and the owners who made sure it was done the right way.

@MirJayAnt MOR ☆ I agree with you wholeheartedly. This vet is the only one I've seen that actually clips the hair and sterilizes the area he will be working on. All the others I've watched just stab the animal. I'm disgusted by the way they treat their "patients." They show a huge lack of compassion or empathy for the animal they are working on. I often wonder if the "Drs" are even licensed to treat the animals.

Same here I’ve seen some very barbaric abscess drainage done on cattle and cows . It’s sad glad he shaved it and gave it a local . Usually large operations just stick with a pocket knife or designated poker and walk away.

For all the comments asking how the owner let the abscess get so bad, it's possible that this was the only time they could have an actual vet come look at it If they're out far somewhere there may not be any vets qualified to drain an abscess of this size Rather than trying to do it themselves and possibly causing more harm, they waited until a professional could tend to it which is better than the backyard surgeries I've seen animals have to endure Also abcesses usually start off small before swelling over a short time period

For sure. I had an abscess that was comparable to my mass (somewhere between grapefruit and cantaloupe) from a spider bite that popped up overnight in my teens. I went to bed with an itchy lil red bite and woke up with a third ass cheek🤦🏼‍♀️ The treatment was almost identical, and while the forceps digging part was hellish (gotta get all the pockets of pus out somehow) cows have a higher pain tolerance than humans, and once all the pressure and pus is gone, it hardly hurts at all. By the second day, it wasn’t really even uncomfy except when I was changing out the packing (the long strip of iodine-infused gauze inside, that wicks out any new infection and lets it heal from the bottom up instead of sealing over and refilling)

Cows are tough cookies and rarely show discomfort/ pain. She did so well getting this drained and packed. The Vet used a local anesthetic and a general anesthesia to calm her down. Even with all that she was still in pain, I challenge any human that has an abscess to not kick when the injection is given and the abscess is drained. I worked on a dairy farm in my early years and witnessed this twice. It shows up in a day, it’s amazing how the cows immune system tries to get rid of the infection. I was amazed at the number of inoculations that had to be broken down. Good girl! I know she’s felling much better.

Having lived half my life on a horse and cattle ranch, I swear, it absolutely mind blowing how big these absesses can get. And how quickly they form and fill up. You do your best to take care of your stock, and keep an eye for these kinds of things, but there will always be a few here and there to slip by unnoticed from time to time, until they look like this. And having someone come out to take care of it is NOT cheap either. While hes there you normally want to have him look over any other stock that may be having issues and have him take care of it. Dealing with these absesses tho is just a fact of life in this business tho. But as bad as some of them may look, it also pretty amazing to see how much relief it brings to drain them, and how quickly they heal with some antibiotics and proper treatment and care.

I have seen a lot of these videos of cow abscess removals, and this vet is by far the kindest towards the cow's. He actually tries to numb up the are before he cuts into the abscess. I'm not talking about just shoving a needle in one spot for a second and calling it a day! No he goes around several places to try and numb the area.

This is my favorite video so far. Awesome chunks! That little dog seemed fascinated by what the vet was doing. I don't think it blinked even once.😃

Well done sir! One of the few that took the time to actually use local anaesthesia. Many vets don't bother to use local since for one, it costs the client more money and second, they think they are bovines hence tough animals (which they are)but they feel pain nonetheless. He properly disinfected the area and took his time. I understand that farmers have to meet profit margins and many would have attempted to do this themselves but this farmer was wise to call the vet out as you have to watch out for the nervous system and make sure you don't section any nerves. Besides, a cow that doesn't feel as much pain is one that is less likely to kick out and one that has a better experience with its handlers so it takes less time and you reduce the risk. It's a win win for everyone!:)

He needs to teach classes for people that think they know what they're doing and then post it like they're hot stuff. This is absolutely fantastic.

this guy is such a pro hes so quick with that needle and he does a little trick withhis fingers and pressure so the cow barely notices so nice to see the cow pain relief before the procedure instead of after it

Poor baby the vet used so much of the numbing medication but the abscess must have been so bad cause the cow still felt it sometimes. This is the only vet I'll watch do this he's so gentle and gives plenty of medication to the cows to try make sure they as comfortable as possible, and he's as gentle as he can be. I love to see animals treated with love and respect.
