I wonder what Ray had to get into his kit that he didn’t have before Korn? He’s one of those drummers that after I watch him play it makes me want to go play! I’m so blessed to finally have a kit back in my life after more than a decade!
you all probably dont care but does someone know a method to log back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid forgot my password. I love any tips you can offer me!
The reason as to why his China is so high is that when he was young he was a Tommy Lee fan wanted to emulate him by having two red chinas set up on each side of him, but eventually, one of them broke so he centered it so he could reach it with both hands, and he’s been playing with it there ever since.
Hey Pat, I used to get HAIR Injuries!...my hair was very long and I would head bang while playing and the chips in my sticks would literally rip shards of hair out of my head. Hurt like Hell and there is no stopping during a performance, just work through the pain and keep going. Lol
i love drummers who are loose in the flow. great technique and groove impresses me as a bass player more than speed and power. great technique can deliver the same punch and power but doesn't compromise the groove.
He's real good at splitting his mind and having one half do one thing and same for the other. I can do it but I rely on a lot of muscle memory. Some of the patters he does doesn't seem humanly possible, but then to shove it in our face he does the same exact thing again. Lots of hours.
Korn is one of those bands where I don't love their music, but I can respect the HELL out of them. They're all outstanding musicians and wonderful people in general, and their story is just inspiring; they all cleaned themselves up once Ray Luzier (who has never touched a drug in his life) joined, and a couple of the members have become Christian, which I think is really cool. A great example of what a rock band should be.
Actually, he said in an interview that when he was young, he didn't have enough money for two chinas, so he just put one in the middle so he could reach it with both hands. Genius... XD Great video btw! You should do one about Gavin Harrison or Tomas Haake! They're awesome...
Ray literaly only needs one tom up front to do all the fills, yet he is ALL OVER the place and needlessly going around the world, using EVERY SINGLE tom on that kit and doin trucks to keep himself entertained lol. Like during the chorus alone he is doing soooooo much extra shit lol. He is hitting toms that are completely behind him for no other reason than HE CAN AND HE WILL!
If you haven't heard of the band: "Cynic" i recommend it, they got an absolutely insane drummer who incorporates jazz-vibes & technique into the metal environment.
Another summer, one of the best there's been in metal, Andols Herrick, formerly of Chimaira. Check out his 26 second clip of No reason to live and the song Faceless Rapport. The most fluid technical drummer I've ever seen.
Hey man just found your channel and I enjoy your commentary on these drum playthroughs. Someone people sleep on heavily is JP Kaukonen. Maybe because he's so unconventional. I think he's just insanely underrated and I'm curious what someone like you would think of him and his bands style. There's a drum playthrough for Circle of Contempt - Perceive the Mendacity. I'm a guitarist (sorry) but I think this is some of the most unique drumming I've ever witnessed.
Why would anyone let the fact that he drums for Korn do anything?? Korn isn’t a shredding band but that doesn’t mean that their music is bad. Ray is a beast and most of us already know what he’s capable of. KXM shows it as well
He is the best drummer I have seen over the last 5 or 6 years from a metal standpoint. He is ripped and hits the drums so so so so hard!!! But he is perfectly in time and I mean PERFECTLY! Its like the record every time and its all so complex and fast and hard. He is incredible.
See non-Korn Ray ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eD3A4QYEguc.html with his band KXM. Also he got his showmanship from playing with David Lee Roth.
I'm no musician but I love all the parts of a band. You touched on stick tricks. Check out Jonathan Moffet in this video. His stick tricks are so smooth and effortlessly timed into the beat I had to watch it over and over again to see if it was a camera trick. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bRM2Gn9nU7Q.html
How about breaking down some Wintersun with Kai Hahto on the drums? Several changes in time signature, quite interesting stuff and fine musicianship plus fast as hell😄 drum cam video of 'Sons of Winter and Stars' here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AZxk6fsjFi0.html.
Ray is an amazing drummer and I watch his tuition videos, but from a mega Korn fan and a drummer, Ray is a pain in the ass to watch live when doing the old stuff. He takes away some of the groove that David added by doing too much, or not putting in some of the tiny but really really important parts. Even like 1 or 2 beat fills that he misses out, but then puts in 20 minutes of things that aren't needed. His own stuff is cool and he is sick, but after having seen him live about 20 times he drives me up the wall. The first album anniversary tour was hard to watch for me.
I agree, he doesn't stick to Silveria's original blueprint at all... Always trying to add new and different things. Some times I like it when he does it, but other times I feel he butchers the rhythm and groove of certain songs, like Freak On A Leash. However, that being said, I absolutely loved his drum work on Korn's The Nothing album!! He was an absolute beast there! And I must say, on some of the songs, it kind of reminded me of David's work on some of Korn's early albums. Overall, Ray is a great drummer, one of the best in the metal field today, but he needs to stop messing with Korn's early albums.
@@aaryamannambiar6677 yeah man. If he stuck to the way they were played on the records then I would be happy. Agreed on his own stuff though as the last three albums especially have been brilliant and his parts are cool. Now Head is back though it still cries out for that David groove in places, but Ray is so very very very good that we can let him off for being a bit straighter in his approach. I'm just jealous ha! Did you see the videos of Ray's drum tech standing in at a festival when he had to leave the tour? The tech played the old stuff great. Much more true to the record! Sometimes with how Ray is though, it becomes the Ray Luzier show and Korn were never like that. Just the 5 of them as a unit rocking out without all of the flash and showing off. If he played the old stuff better, again I would be happy with all that showmanship, but it just goes over the top when he isn't playing it right!
Ray Luzier is one of the best drummers in the world. In this song he is just covering the original song from David Silveria. You should give him credit for that.
David laid the template for the sound Ray came along and it got worse snare wise. More of a young David fan now he is just salty but Ray has never been a fav of mine to be honest. Great video tho man love the work.
Thanks! Yeah he is definitely riding on David’s coattails, but I thought he had put enough of his touch to the song to deserve a feature. I’ll have to cover Dave at some point; plenty of other sick Korn songs with him behind the kit out there!
@@PatFlanigan Indeed. Ray is talented I in no way say he is not a epic drummer but David had already created the formula for him. Ray does add some nice flair to the older songs thats for sure. I am really enjoying Jay Weinberg's drum cam footage the last while. Its really well done. Should get some of that on the channel. Keep up the good work.
@@PatFlanigan Is it weird that I think that Ray "over do it" when he is playing Davids songs? It kind of ruins the songs for me when theres loads of fills that wasnt there in the originals.
3rd reaction vid on this musician n im 0 for 3 impressed.'this is an easy set' said by the dude doing a reaction vid while ray makes millions.what a douche
Ray has been with them for 14 years! When are people gonna stop with the David Silvera was groovier bullshit. Ray is a great drummer and deserves so much more respect than he gets from these whiners.
@@PatFlanigan I should state that I think Barker is a good drummer. He's a pretty nice dude too. My old band used to practice at his clothing store in California.
