It has exactly the most miles of mine, and I am also of the opinion that the Supersport S is a fantastic bike, the changes I made was to put the Akrapovic exhaust tips and belly pan carbon. Thanks for sharing the videos, they are very useful. Good curves
Thanks for the Review very thorough. I bought mine (2023) very recently. Its my second Ducati (currently ride an Aprilia Tuono Factory for Track days) and Triumph Thruxton & BMW R9T as daily riders. The Supersport is a great bike, love the aesthetics. I too am having issues from 1 to 2nd, my quick shifter sometimes reverts back to neutral instead of going to 2nd. With the (quickshifter in down position) Auoblipper if i’m not slowing down fast enough theres a significant jolt and the gear remains unchanged. the mirrrors are my only true gripe, all i see are my elbows and have been unable to adjust them to a better position. With the mirrors aside, I really like the bike and the ride, that very Ducati very L twin sound puts a smile on my face even with the stock exhaust.
Great review Braden, my 17 model has covered almost 7k miles and recently had to have the fuel sensor replaced. Although the bike is out of warranty my Ducati dealer arranged the swap with a new sensor and just charged me for the labour. Love your vids and garage set up. Regards from the UK 🇬🇧 and ride safe. Btw I also own a 2019 BMW F850GS hence why my Ducati is low mileage.
Thanks for the solid review! Recently got a 2019 SSS, just hit 1000 miles. Going to check out your other video covering the headlight replacement - had the same thought as you. Cheers!
I have been trying to decide between this and a Monster Plus for my first bike and I think I am leaning towards this as it will just give me more options for use.. but it is a challenging decision! Now I understand why guys have multiple bikes in their stable lol I will be ordering one this month and I couldn't be more excited! Great review.
Excellent! Thank you. I'm looking at the 2022 950 SuperSport as a daily commuter. On a 2021 BMW f750GS right now, which is amazing, but I REALLY want a sport bike! :)
I have 2018 S with factory panniers. One side keeps breaking bolt where it mounts to peg even when not loaded. Also my first Ducati purchased. All day comfort for my 5’8” frame except for heat between the legs. Otherwise, no major mechanical issues or need for louder exhaust
I have this exact bike also, I also find false neutrals between 1st and 2nd, but sometimes between 2nd and 3rd. I personally bought mine for a more comfortable ride as I also commute on mine. everything you said in this vid is exactly my thoughts, its a great bike, fast, looks amazing, comfortable, has Ducati character, handles really well. The heat issue doesn't bother me personally, here in the UK where we are lucky to get 4 weeks of warm weather a year, the heat from the bike is welcomed most of the time:)
Yeah the heat issue isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. They have to find something negative to say. Try and focus to make sure you don't move your right wrist while shifting. I have a theory that when I quick shift from 1-2 or 2-3 I flinch a little anticipating the "bite" into the next gear. I think the bike can see that throttle closing a little and it messes up the shift.
Good review! Laughed about the clock. A modern take on Italian electrics. That oil change benefit is brilliant. The new 950SS is gorgeous. Check it out.
I have the same bike for about 2 years myself and agree 100% with your findings! Only difference, I have the Akrapovic full exhaust on which really elevates the sound and gives some more performance. Same here for the quick shifter and the 1st to 2nd changes. I tend to kill the engine at stop lights on very hot days to keep the engine from over heating. Always on sport mode except for when it rains where I put touring mode only because I have other abs and traction control settings. Great bike over all!
Could you provide a link for the exhaust? I think I found the same exhaust I was just wanting to make sure. Definitely something I might look into for mine. How much was installation? Does it void the warranty?
I appreciate this review! Since you're commuting for long distances at highway speeds I think you're really the exact type of rider this bike is perfect for. I ride a 2014 Honda Interceptor and I also do a long highway commute and bikes like mine and yours are perfect for that category of riders.
Hey man really great video. Your bike is a beauty! Would you recommend this as a first bike? Hitting 40 now and I was thinking about offering myself one. I am a big fun of Italian machines I have two Alfas here in France.
Yeah it's not too crazy for a first bike plus it has all the rider aids. As long as you have a good head on your shoulders. Here in the states we have rider training that I would recommend going to. Maybe get something cheap like a cbr250 to learn on for a few months so you don't dump a fine Italian machine. Good luck to you and thanks for watching
THANKS so much for doing this. Really helps me make a decision. 2 Questions: 1) Do you think this is too much bike for a beginner? 2) Which aftermarket headlights did you go with? Thanks again!
Yeah the bike is pretty tame. If you were really worried you could leave it in urban mode which limits the horsepower. Definitely take a motorcycle safety course. I wouldn't change the headlights just swap the bulbs I have a separate video on those.
Man great review. Love your garage as well. Have mine for 5 months now and share all feelings like yours... it’s a sweet bike. Need more information about the phone mount: brand and installation. Ducati has recommended to me to not put it due to lack of room. As I see you find it. Could you give me specifics?
Yeah it's a ram mount I think it's branded as a triple tree mount. I have two separate videos on it. It just slides into the end of the handle bar and pinches itself in.
Great review ! I really like this Ducati. Currently on a 2015 Yamaha FJ-09 with upgraded suspension. Love my bike but thinking of a replacement and this is on my short list. I did have to laugh when you said you only got 5-6k miles out of your back tire. I wish I could get that kind of mileage ! :)
@@ThePrybra07 If you're getting 10-12 k miles on a rear tire on a sport /sport touring bike, it must be a pretty hard compound. Unless we're talking kilometers. My Dunlop Q4s I can get maybe 4k miles on the rear. About double on the front. That's with moderate to semi aggressive riding. On a full liter bike like my old R1 I would be super lucky to get 3500. I usually go through 2 rears and one front per year. Depending on how much I've ridden obviously. I like the Q3/Q4s because they are plenty sticky though and I don't mind sacrificing a bit of mileage for performance in the corners.
@@ThePrybra07 Thanks for the review! I was considering one of these but your comment reminded me of the 2012 Diavel that I owned that kept stalling out on me when coming up to stop lights. After 3 different times at the dealership in one calendar year, they couldn't figure it out. I sold it after that last visit. Needed a bike that was reliable and doesn't need dealer visits 1-2 times per year.
Looking at one for Euro tours....the bits i want on it cost a fortune, mirror blanks(i never ride with mirrors, i have a functioning neck) are $250,crazy,then there's the de-cat pipe, the last 1/4 of the fairing,£400,double bubble screen, heated grips, tail tidy, Moto Gadget, bar end signals, phone mount/usb...the list is huge...or i could just save a chunk of cash and buy a 2020 Ninja 1000SX with most of the stuff on(500miles only) for around $5000 less? P.S; A Snap On socket for the rear nut was £1 a mm when i bought it 20 odd years ago...hate to think what they charge today! Thanks for the revue...Regards from Scotland.
Thank you a lot for the review :) You were the first guy I watched an instruction how to get to the battery when I bought mine :) Basically I agree with all you said. We have the bikes for the similar time. Let me tell my notes. -I made around 20k km / 12,5 k miles -I haven't attached any heat shield yet -I've never changed to sport mode :D (damn I have finally do it) -I heard original heat grips are weak -they recalled me only for 1 thing -on the highways I do 4.7-5 l/100 km (47 mpg) -on the speed tracks I try as noob many times I had some leakage in the front that ruined my windshield but I don't know what is it... Thanks for your videos.
Great walk-through Braden, I’ve had my 2019 SSS for three months now, and did get to test-drive the 959 Panigale before choosing this bike, absolutely no regrets - and while it was marginally more ‘flickable’, I found the 959 really uncomfortable, lots of shunting at low revs, and painful on the wrists in slow traffic, unlike the SS. In fact the torque and ergonomic superiority of the SSS has enabled me to keep up with Panigales, V4s, and monsters over very rapid point-to-point riding on regular roads with no fuss. I have the Akro slip-ons which give the bike a deeper (not louder) sound, which i do love, and I also eliminated the throttle slop with the spacers kit you can buy - which I can’t recommend more highly. So in summary, agree that the SSS is super-easy to use every day, and equally when pushed hard over 4K revs, the bike roars with eagerness and - I’ve found - can go toe-to-toe with the best of them.
Spacer kit literally takes 10 minutes, i was super nervous doing it, but in the end an absolute doddle. Amazing improvement in responsiveness, with the throttle’s own spring really coming into its own.
I have similar kms on my supersport, great bike. If you like the sound , get the full akrapovic system, it makes the bike sound amazing. I had my quick shifter replaced under warranty, since then seems to be working fine.
@@JS-fb6ww quick shifter means you don't need to use the clutch on upshift and if you power off you don't need to use clutch down. It still needs actuation to change the gear, its not automatic. But it is a lot faster and much easier on your left hand and wrist.
Hey, thanks for the detailed video, I recently picked up my SS(White) and this review is very helpful. Interesting you said Angel GT tyres as replacement to the stock Rosso 3. Having ridden it with the Angel, would you recommend it. I do not ride on Sports too often and its India :), opportunities to ride 100MPH is limited. Also,m not sure if its the viewing angle, the rear of the bike looks higher. Have you adjusted the rear suspension on the bike
No I haven't touched the suspension. Yeah I definitely recommend the angels. I was worried they weren't going to grab as well as the rossos but they are just fine. The longevity is really what I was after. I ride mostly highway back and forth from work and only get some Twisties every now and again. Enjoy the bike
I enjoyed watching this. I've been eyeing the supersport as my first bike and I'm excited to test ride it. Its in my price range too!! The 2019 version that is haha
Hey man! Thanks for the info, great video. Great to hear you're loving this bad boy. I'm looking to dip my toe into sportbikes with this one, but used. Which headlights are you're using now?
I've been thinking about a second bike for two-up fun, but I think my heart is set on a Kawasaki Ninja 1000ABS (with luggage). That being said, this was a great, great review. The first thing I noticed was your rear tire tread wear - I'm not going to watch reviews from a guy with 2 inch chicken strips on either side of the center line! I live in Denver and have a 2015 BMW R nine T, and have already gone through a few sets of tires, two pairs of knee pucks, and 16000 miles. Where do you like to ride and where can we meet up??
Nice set of SuperSport vids Braden. Been riding mine for 16,000miles now. No serious problems. It’s been the best bike I’ve ever owned. Great for touring and even track days. I do get a false neutral from 4th gear to 5th gear under hard acceleration. It’s manageable. What Ram ball mount did you use? I have the U shaped one but yours looks better. I put a Ventura rack on mine and painted it red. It was worth it. I’m the extra space for my dry bag is worth it.
Hi Lee RideFar, I have a SuperSport S 2017 thats also been giving me false neutral between 1st and 2nd gear under hard acceleration, since day one. The Ducati dealer is telling me they can't find any problem with the quick shifter. Just wanted to know was your false neutral problem ever solved and if so how?? Thanks
Nice owners review thanks 👍 I'm going to test a 2018 S model 1500 miles tomorrow. Other than the false neutral issue is there anything else to look for? Cheers 😊
Look out for how big your grin is going to be. Even though it's a bit of a pain owning a Ducati there's just something cool about coming out to it. It's unique and all motorcycle riders love a Ducati at heart. Good luck!
@@ThePrybra07 I had an Aprilia Falco a few years ago & more recently a 1st gen RSV4 Factory & really miss the style & character of Italian bikes so long as I've got something easy (boring) as a daily ride. But coming off a S1000RR was a bit of a culture shock & trade-in deal wasn't good enough. Beautiful bike though wish I could have them all!
A dealership near me has a 2017 Ducati Supersport S with the touring package and the Akrapovic exhaust as well as a few other OEM extras, and about the same miles as yours has as of this video, that I can get for $9k OTD. Do you as a Duc SS owner think its a good deal for the bike?
@@ThePrybra07 I still might. But it mainly be used for commuting back and forth to work. Won’t ever see a track. So I believe I want the more comfort of the super sport s versus the v2 but idk.
Hey man great review ! i was thinking of buying it as my first bike im from europe so it will be the version A2 that means 47 horsepower ...and once im 20 and i have my A licence i can drive it in his full potencial ....do you think for a begginer it is a good first bike ? Thx :)
A Ducatic that has trouble with neutral? The neutral on my 2002 ST4S completely disappears, then re-appears like a Gremlin playing pranks on me. I love your SS model, nice practical review. Very helpful should I buy one.
When I got mine it was between the 959 and ss. I was going to go test ride both and make a decision but when I finally got around to it they didn't have anymore 959s for the year.
Hi There, great review, I have a question.... heat... some say this bike is really hot :( is that true? i dont mean higway speeds...but everyday using, commuting, city riding, summer weather etc. Thank you
@@ThePrybra07 ok thank you, seems like a perfect bike to me. Have you had any issues..engine etc. You know... those jokes: Why ducatists dont greet, cause they have already greeted each other at the service in the morning. :D
@big bass I had a yamaha before this which also had its series of problems so you could never really say, but if honda had all its model for sale in my country, i would have gone for one of its bike. Hondas are well, they are perfect
It's just the design of the transmission and with the quick shifting. If you don't follow through with complete movement during a shift you'll end up in a false neutral.
I noticed a 2017 for sale with about 9000 miles. I read some forums where some guys had multiple issues and some didn’t. They are asking around 9 thousand with no warranty of course. Should I be afraid?
I mean it is a Ducati so there's risk and expense involved. There's also the beautiful looks and engine character. If the bike excites you then yeah pull the trigger
@@ThePrybra07 Thanks for the answer and the video, it's great to always have this kind of information! My budget tops at 15k$, and those three bikes matches the number, here in Spain salaries aren't top notch. For a normal rider, work commute, sunday riding, maybe some track days, do you think it's worth paying the extra for the S version? And one last question, as an ex-owner of a GSX S750 and MT07 how refined is the engine in terms of vibrations and consumption? Thanks!
@@tomrandom7091 it's pretty vibey maybe go test ride all three before you make a decision. You can always buy a used one and save a bunch of money. I get about 40mpg on mine and that's with alot of heavy highway acceleration. In the end most of these bikes are all pretty similar, they all have loads of power and will be enjoyable. They will all have their own problems and issues. I think you have to go with what excites you the most.
@@ThePrybra07 Thank you, i'm awaiting until dealers open again for test drives :P If i get one I'll do a video so i can also share my point of view with you and other users. Again thanks!
False neutral is you can be in-between gears for instance between 3rd and 4th gear in a "natural" area. Of course there is manual shifting it's a motorcycle
In the year 2020 why has no one come up with some kind of mod to keep peoples asses from roasting? Pipe wraps (fiberglass, carbon) insulating padding, gold foil backed insulation, heck even aerogel. NACA scoops to channel the heat out. Auxiliary fan?
I use gold foil tape under my seat. The problem is that much of the heat comes from the sides of the cylinders and there's nothing between the inside of your leg and the cylinder
