He is currently (and goin' on for nearly three decades now) the absolute best country artist, arguably one of the best all-time. Nothing better than Dwight, his voice, his lyrics with a small, traditional country band. Yep, you guessed it, I'm a fan.
I ADORE THIS MAN WITH OR WITHOUT THE DAMN HAT. Dwight's singing hit it big when I was in my late teens & I continued to buy his CD's through my early 20's. Lets not forget about one of the saddest country songs ever written, Two Doors Down; AND I had a short memory lapse...I Sang Dixie... Then when I saw him in the MOVIE Panic Room his character was meaner than the dickens but I found it to be comical...NOT because he did not deliver BUT BECAUSE I GET HIM. Again, I adore this man.
The reason guys like Dwight, Alan, George Strait don't EVER LOSE THEIR FANS is BECAUSE THEY NEVER CHANGE! The Trends change, they stay the EXACT SAME as they were when they started! People NEED CONSISTENCY in their heroes!!!!!!!!!!
Just love this song. I can't pick a favourite Dwight song. He is a superb song writer and the songs he covers are heartfelt and sincere. Seeing him live is the top of my bucket list.
+mairendee I saw Dwight in 2005...it was one of the best shows I've ever been to by a real artist. As soon as he hit the stage, it was just incredible!
I used to be a big country fan, then I went right off it. I could not hear the "country" in a lot of the newer artists. But Dwight Yoakam is brilliant, he is country. Thank you for this.
Dwight is the best ever! He has the purest voice in country music. The only other one I even think comes close is Keith Urban, even though he is from Australia, he is good.
have always loved this song. have always loved Dwight. most under rated singer in the last 35 years. all this new crap that is being put out as country music, is for the benefit of these"pop" "country singers and the record companys ...... FOR THE MONEY,MONEY,MONEY. GIVE us back some real country music.(I blame Garth Brooks)
BEAUTIFUL VOICE ! BEAUTIFUL SONGS ! BEAUTIFUL PERFORMANCES ! BEAUTIFUL MUSIC ! BEAUTIFUL SONORITY ! ALL IS BEAUTIFUL ! BRAVO DEAR DWIGHT ! I LISTEN YOUR PERFORMANCES WITH A HUGE PLEASURE ! WITH A LOT OF LOVE AND LIGHT Nadya Mirkova from Sofia - Bulgaria - Europe
What a great song. Filled with country emotion right down to the core of the man's soul. Takes me to a dusty praire in Oklahoma; Martin D-28 in hand or, perhaps, a big red Gretsch.
Amen to that. Dwight never sold out. Nashville has never given him his due credit. They prop up the New Country crap. God, would Johnny, Marty, Buck and Waylon turn over in their grave to see what has happened to country music.
Listen to the phrases in this song. The lyrics are clever and paint a picture of a desperate situation.A lyrical imagery that is genius.I agree, underrated. His music is amazing.
I just watched him in January 2012 at a nearby casino, sold out, rocked it! Pick up any of his new CD's, the music is in the same vein as the old stuff.
what happened to Dwight Yoakam ? He got into acting and then I lost track of him..I loved his voice and his cute little dance he would do when he played and sang...I sure wish he would come out with a song...All the great country singers have moved on to another life and left us with "country wannabees"...sad aint it ya'll ???
Lynage1, I hear you, I loved that music video, can't find it anywhere, but yeah, william dafoe, some cute girl, it was like a movie (hell it might have been from a movie but I've never found out which one) and it fit so well with the song, so sad and pure country. Keep playing Dwight, keep playing.
Lynage1, I hear you, I loved that music video, can't find it anywhere, but yeah, william dafoe, some cute girl, it was from the movie "White Sands" and it fit so well with the song, so sad and pure country. Keep playing Dwight, keep playing.
You cannot beat the country music from the 80's and 90's... truly heartfelt.. just as good as old country... the stuff they call 'country' now is just awful... :(
The best live version on RU-vid. Bar nine. The most unique voice that could never be mistaken for anyone else. He's rare in country music, too, because he writes (most, except covers) his own songs & they're so heartfelt. You can hear it here. Thank you! :-D
Because the stars today are short on talent and they couldn't stand up to actually performing like this. The music business is big on huge productions that distract people and keep them from realizing that their favorite stars are talentless hacks that aren't even a shadow of real talented people.
