No. Not even a minute in, the layers of pathologizing and stigmatization of a naturally occurring neurotype are too much to continue. Warning signs. Symptoms. Disorder. Person first language. We're different, not broken. I recommend seeking information about autism from autistic people so that you can learn how to communicate effectively with both autistic patients in your practice and about autism on your platform. I have an enormous playlist of diverse autistic creators talking about autistic topics if you need a place to start.

Well said Dr. Caudle 👏!!! You touched on almost everything that my son, who is on the spectrum for Autism, experienced. In 2002, he showed signs of being different. He was 1 1/2 years old. He is almost 24 years old now. It’s been quite a ride. When he had homework, I had homework. He is now an Aviation Mechanic Technician (AMT) and is engaged to be married in September 2024. It wasn’t easy but we (our entire family) made it through. There is always hope. Never give up on your child no matter what!

Dr. Jen I have a daughter with autism. She's 28 now. It is a neurological disorder.Thank God I had children before her. Based on how their milestones, she was slow. I did a lot of trips to various places to get her evaluated. They are very sensitive. There is the repetitive behaviors she has. She is slowly getting better. No it doesn't go away. They take awhile to improve. It is true it is a spectrum. That means they could have very little chance of developing or they could have autism but in the degree of asperger syndrome. Special education plays an integral part in her life. Speach therapy, occupational therapy, and some physical therapy is crucial for development. Thank you for expouding on this platform.

My daughter was diagnosed with autism in 2007 before she was 4 years old. To this very day, she's still nonverbal. Her grandmother had noticed the signs and done some research on the internet. It's an ongoing battle but still I am continuing my best to hold on to her and her issues.

I have a son and grandson with Autism. My son is 30,almost 31. I knew when he was a baby there was something wrong. He didn't want to be held or comforted. It was a struggle. As he became older, he didn't really interact with other kids. I studied as much as I could to do everything I could do. I gave him constant stimulation instead of catering to him. He didn't really speak until he was 4. He had started communicating when he was hungry or thirsty. I then started working with him, making him tell me what he wanted. I have two older children also. The oldest has a TBI from birth and tested on the spectrum also. I was extremely proactive with them. We played roll playing games that I made up at the table so the youngest would start understanding jokes and responses that would be appropriate. I found an amazing neuropsychologist who specialized with the disorder. Just don't give up. I taught my boys to adapt to the world because the world will not adapt to them. My oldest is a tested genius and a very responsible hard working man in upper management. My youngest still can't be around a lot of people. He has always invented things (he was 5 or 6 when he started making booby traps in his bedroom, I was always leary when I went in). He's a computer genius and can design just about anything. My oldest tested off the spectrum in his teen years. I've enjoyed parenting them, even when I was exhausted.

Autism, thanks for this information. I have a family remember with this spectrum disorder. I'm glad there is more information that has helped me over the years to understand him. He is now 23, and working. He's also a such a mannerable person.

Thanks for making this video. Bookmarking it so when I have kids, I’ll know what to look for. People now are so hyperfixated on “inclusion” they forget it’s an actual disorder that there is evidence based and scientific treatment to help with!

I found what works for my two brothers with Autism spectrum disorders, was communication and set routines. One brother is Nonverbal so ASL, communication devices, board makers really helps. Sensory Rooms are great to have as well

It's quite common for people with Down Syndrome to also be autistic. Autism also commonly coexists with ADHD and/or dyslexia.

I have a younger brother with autism. He was diagnosed at age 3, and he's 34 now. He's non-verbal, but he makes noises. When he gets upset, he bites himself and beats himself up. He does not like routine change. I also have 2 nephews that have autism there on the same age.One nephew from my oldest sister and one of my oldest brother. The common denominator is that it's from my father's side of the family.

Autistic people often are listening even when it doesn't seem like it. They often find eye contact to be very uncomfortable. But this is an advantage for them if they ever go to Japan, where direct eye contact is actually considered rude.

As an autistic person, I have issues with the fact that you call it "warning" signs. Using the term "warning" seems to indicate that autism is someone to be fearful or be worried about. In the last few years Autistic People (the consensus amongst the community prefers Identity-Language) have been fighting hard to destigmatize the language used to describe autism. Most of which has stemmed from the idea that "autism is unwanted". Which for autistic people hear; is incredibly offensive. "Early signs" or "early traits" would have been far more preferred here.

Some of these symptoms remind me of myself I'm 48 is it to late in life for me to be tested? I suffer from ptsd, anxiety, depression and ocd. I really didn't have any imagination as a child. And I also have AdHd. I almost feel like I'm going crazy because I don't remember having ambition to do anything when I grew up.
