Hi everyone! I started making my own dry shampoo in December 2020. After experimenting with a bunch of different recipes, I've landed on this one being my absolute favourite. The bonus is that it's also incredibly simple! Let me know if you use dry shampoo and if you have a favourite brand or make your own. x

Instead of direct perfume which clumps the corn scratch you can use make-up removal pads (those round cotton pads), spray the perfume on those pads, and insert the pads into the bottle with the corn scratch, and you can even put these perfumed pads between and top of the corn starch to redistribute the perfume without wetting or causing clumps of corn scratch by direct perfuming the stuff. Just a tip I learned from another RU-vidr who does videos on Vintage Hygiene.

I did mine with roughly equal parts of tapioca starch, baking soda (I wanted the texture to make it more of a volumizing powder), sandalwood talc, turmeric, ginger power, cinnamon powder. These colors work great with my warm blonde hair and don't look like I just dumped baby powder into my roots. Works great!

Love the tip about spritzing a couple pumps of a favorite scent into the container before loading in the cornstarch - great idea!

I love how simple this is. I have made some and put it into a little bottle with a nozzle so I can get it right in my roots

I've been using baby powder mixed with cornstarch. Going to go straight cornstarch next.

I get my dry shampoo from a low-waste shop in Toronto called Green and Frugal- I really like it! I'm going to try this as it seems even easier and low waste :)

My scalp always became very irritated with commercial dry shampoo's. I have always resorted to corn starch as well and find it equally effective or even better. The only plus about most commercial versions is that the spray bottles make an easier application.

I have never made my own dry shampoo. The closest that I have come to that is to use baby powder but I have not done that in over 15 years or so now. The one that I have is almost used up and then I have one from Captain Blankenship to use but after that I don’t think that I will by or use it anymore. My hair just doesn’t get oily at all anymore. Have you considered standing in your tub or shower when you apply your dry shampoo? Then it would not get all over the bathroom floor and your counters.

That's amazing that your hair doesn't get oily anymore! I think mine gets less oily compared to when I was younger. My hair tends to show the oil a lot though so I still like to use dry shampoo in between washes. Ahh, I've not thought to stand in the tub, but with the cornstarch, it's much less noticeable and easier to clean up when it gets all over the place. :D

@@AuthenblissityMain I think that not getting oily hair is a combination of genetics, menopause, and having wavy, textured, very long hair. In a way it is nice because I really don't have to wash it much but also if I wash it more than once a week or so it starts to get REALY dry so I have to be careful. I have started to only wash it when it needs it instead of washing it a set number of days a week and it seems to be better. I think that in general older=drier!

I have been so curious about this because I have seen so many recipes with other ingredients and I wondered how necessary they were. I don't like commercial versions at all. My biggest concern has always been having a white cast on my dark hair, and I also don’t want to add any brown or black pigment. Do you find that you have an issue with a white cast, and if so do you have any remedies for that?
@AuthenblissityMain
@AuthenblissityMain Год назад
There is a bit of a white cast when I first put it on but I just work it into my hair with my fingers and it eventually goes away.

I wonder if also it would help to use the cool setting on a hair dryer to blow away the excess powder?

I have bath and body works perfume but is it recommended to use that in the dry shampoo mixture cuz I know it's not the most vegan freindly perfume. And I'm not sure what affect it'll have on my scalp or roots

you can use essential oils but you should not kill plants too

If you don't want the powder to get everywhere then just have a jar you can dip your fingers into. that way you can just rub it into your hair without making a mess.

It's so interesting how we've all come up with the old makeup brush to apply cornstarch as dry shampoo on our own.

It’s such a great way to apply powder dry shampoo! I picked up the old makeup brush method from Daven Mayeda over 10 years ago when he was posting hair videos on YT. 😀
