This easy scarf is great for beginners. It uses a 3rd loop half double crochet but don't worry - I'll show you everything you need to know, including how to do this stitch! It works up in about two hours and is the perfect mindless project, just repeat the same one row over and over! Grab some coffee and stay a while ♡

I'm the same way as far as knitting goes. I found a neat way of doing knit stitches with a crochet hook called knooking, but crochet is still my favorite for yarn projects. Thanks for a really easy pattern.

Such a beautiful scarf thanks for the tutorial. I was wondering if I could use just one skein of yarn instead of two. I am trying make a scarf for my niece who lives in Chicago and she said it is very windy. So I am trying to find a pattern where the wind does not come through. I tried to knit a ribbed scarf but I don't know what happened but I was off one stitch and it is such a hassle trying to find the dropped stitch and knit all over. Thank you for any help you can give me with this matter. I truly appreciate it.

Thanks! I watched the cowl video you have posted. My question is, with the cowl why do you start your first HDC (on row 1) on the 3rd loop from the hook, but in this pattern on the 1st loop from the hook (on row 1)? I understand the difference of the "3rd loop HDC stitch" presented here.

This is a great pattern but can it be connected into a infinity or cowl type scarf?, I thought that's what it looked like in the picture of you with it on and wanted to make this in a cowl type scarf? Any tips on joining ...a single crochet first to join then the half double then the 3rd loop double, would that work???

Hi. Working in the 3rd stitch seems like the same thing as doing a back loop only. I hope I'm doing this right. It sure looks right to me.

She actually worked in the back loop but because HDC has the third loop, it looked almost the same as if she worked in the 3rd loop. The 3rd loop is actually that horizontal bar in the front.

I don’t think she’s working in the back loop of the normal chain. That would be the 2nd loop. It looks like she’s working behind the second loop and into the 3rd loop

I like the pattern but want to make it long enough enabling me to twist once on and then make it into a hood (hooded cowl). How long do I need to make it? in addition, since I plan to twist it, shoud I make it not quite as wide as the knitted look looks heavy and thick? To compensate, would using baby yarn be a good compromise?

If you start with a bulky weight yarn do you have to do the double strand and what size hook? And what size hook are you in this video?

No, just use a single strand of bulky - the two strands of worsted are to mimic a bulky weight yarn. And I used an N/P hook!

OK. Starting out of you chain 15 and turn it around, I end up with 13 stitches to work out of. 😕. I have to add 2 more chains.

She did say 5mm hook in the video but the pattern says P hook, and she’s using one in the video. If you use a 5mm hook stitches are too tight and the project takes much longer than two hours.

is ur count for every row supposed to get smaller? like on my third row i skipped the chain closes to my hook and went into the next stitch and did back loop im getting 22 then next row 21. is that right?

Nope, you should have the same number of stitches on every row. Make sure you are stitching in the first stitch next to the starting Ch as well :)

So sorry about the confusion! I use a P hook when crocheting with two strands together. That's my preferred method. If you wanted to follow this pattern with one strand of yarn you could use an H.

I am confused about this as well plus that is worsted wt yarn but X'S 2 so I am confused about how much yarn is needed if we are using a 5mm hook and 1 yarn at a time..? Very confusing

She is using 2 strands of worsted weight to make a bulky weight and I believe she is using a N or P hook.

I have gone up to a 6.5mm hook and it's still too small. In the video she is using a large hook but I don't know what size. 5mm doesn't work!

I think you were actually using a P hook instead of an H hook because your hook looked way bigger to me than an H.

it took me 5hrs just to make a short scarf. And at the end of each row, I added 2-5 extra single crochet after the turn stitch, thank to those extra, I can finish this crap. I'm a beginner but I timed each row and i know it take me ~5min for each row, and Idont know how fast you did, but no way it cant be done in 2hrs for your infinity scarf. And someone cmt bellow said she could make a scarf in 3 while watching TV. I doubt it. bc I didnt drink, eat etc and still took more than 5hrs,
