Daily almond eater here. I read from a nutritionist that you should strive to eat 30 different plant based foods per week. It doesn't need to be a full serving. For example, every week I eat almonds, walnuts, pecans, mixed nuts, a variety of fruits with my oatmeal, a variety of vegetables in my salad - which also has chia and flax seeds, etc. And of course various other vegetables and whole wheat/grain products. Eat my popcorn and bowl of cheerios every night for a treat :)

I and my husband have almond and walnuts every morning on our cereal. We purchase raw nuts and whiz them in the processor so we can have a dessert spoonful on our morning cereal. I include quinoa and raw oats as well as lactose free (I have IBS) Kefir milk and a banana. Never feel hungry before lunch and our skin, for 80 and 76yr olds is pretty good, with people continually saying we don't look our age. We exercise regularly as well so this helps.

I had such oily skin, I constantly wiped my face, I couldn't stand that heavy feeling. One day my father said I would be glad someday for that oily skin. So I'm 70 years old now and have no wrinkles and no crows feet, no elevens not even a little bit. I use some products, and one is Isomers from Canada. Strivectin stretch mark cream, which is great to use on the face. Cereve AM and PM as you recommended. I have noticed a bit of saggy skin close to one corner of my mouth. People don't know I'm 70 years old. Daddy was right, now I can be glad for the oily skin.

Thanks for citing the studies. As it truns out, all three were funded or at least partially supported by Almond Board of California. 😲😃 I love almonds in small quantities - in salads or as a snack. I probably wont increase my usuall consumption just because of these studies.

It is likely that the Almond Board of California was/is the only organization interested enough in the benefits of almonds to provide enough money to do any studies at all. So if you are a researcher interested in doing that kind of work, you have no other options. Also, if the study results strongly support a hypothesis of positive benefits, the AB of C is certainly not going to object! - On the other hand, I’m sure if a study results in no positive OR negative affects, they aren’t as interested (and no one else is much either). Taking funding from an organization with skin in the game, so to speak, does not automatically mean the clinicians / researchers become unthinking shills. You have every right to decide that you don’t find results from studies funded that way to be compelling, but that is your personal opinion. Many, many, many studies would never happen if funding wasn’t provided by an organization who stands to benefit from results showing positive impacts on people’s health.

Finally, one of my favorite foods is getting good reviews ;- ) Over the years, I have seen similar claims made on dark chocolate (min. 60% cocoa), green tea, tomato sauce made with tomato puree and olive oil, omega 3 oils from cold water fish,... I started using almond flour for baking. I love it. Its basically just ground up almonds. Great for people doing low carb or keto. However, i still do it in moderation. Im allergic to nickle, and almond is a nickle food

It's great for people on keto that are still addicted to bread cakes and cookies. Substitutes for keeping them on track. But not great for health. Full of oxalates and antinutrients 🥴

Request: regarding the minimal erythematous dose, could you make a video about the whole seed oils thing? I always see people saying that they stopped consuming seed oils and no longer burn in the sun as much. That's what the anti-sunscreen crowd runs with but I'd like to know where that comes from and if it has anything substancial behind it. 👀

As I understand it Almonds are also (one of many foodstuffs) high in oxalates... often referred to as an anti-nutrient for its tendency to limit absorption of things like zinc, calcium and iron. Oxalates are also known to lead to the formation of kidney-stones.

Thank you Dr Dray. I love your lecture on getting rid of wrinkles. I eat a variety of nuts everyday including almonds but I do watch the quantities. My advice is to soak those nuts - you get more nutrients when you soak your nuts but check on how many hours to soak each of your nuts. I agree with you there is so much benefits in almonds and my kitchen is full of bottles of a variety of nuts. Yes check your allergies and switch to other nuts. Fats from nuts are the best for our skin despite the colour. I am from Africa and I take care of myself through eating well, exercising and listening to these videos. Very useful information. Once again thank you Dr Dray.
