I've owned both, and the Solar comfort not only was no match and had to be constantly adjusted, two bulbs had to be replaced after one winter, and it lasted two winters before it stopped turning on completely, and I was done..It was actually about a hundred dollars more than the edenpure too, if I remember correctly.....Meanwhile, my edenpure is now over 14 years old, and just now needed servicing. Bulbs cost me 65 dollars, and took about 30 minutes to replace with a single screwdriver, and apparently last for 14 years....

Yeah, thanx.... I've had a rescued unit someone was throwing out for about 4 years, just floating around the barn that I'll finally pursue diagnosing again, with winter fast approaching.

@E5Bobby: Never got an answer did you ? 11 years for you, I can't remember how long it's been. Same issue here, bought 3 Gen3, 2 worked, 1 did not power on..used the 2 for 7 years, no issues, gave away 2, one working, the other being unused sine day one. The gent is going to go through the whole unit and do a review after a poll asking buyer/users what they would change to make better. He said too much electronics for such a simple appliance. Mechanical sequencers were the most reliable heat on, heat off switch. Who really needs a numerical display ? Most heated spaces have some type of temperature indicator near by..if not the dollar store sells them for a lot less then this machines replacement. Sometimes we need to step back a ways to simplicity and appreciate it.

I reverse engineer control boards for heating and cooling for a hobby..I've discovered that mounted parts on the boards are bulk, unreliable due to wide tolerance in it's ratings. For example, a box relay that turns on the fan..may read 8 amp at 120vac, but the same relay may be used in a single heat element power circuit but requires 10 amps therfore extreme load on that light duty relay. This way manufactures only have to purchase one model, median relay for the complete control. Design feature may include fire or melting sitiations...they just quit. Other factor could be the little power transformer that supplies the control voltages..likely 24- 28vac. The rating on it maybe .6 of one amp or maybe a bit higher..a whole house generator starting up, our a power outage coming back on could surge to transformer burning it out..if that part is mounted on the pc board, techs are not aloud component kevel repair..owner must replace the whole pc board. Remember ignition points in the distributor?.. $6.50 in the good days, ($40 now), still much better than $400 electronic ignition module and a computer scan $ to boot.

+darlene muscoe I had that problem and I moved it elsewhere and it worked. My house was built in the 70's and guess just some of the breakers can't handle it, depending on what all is on it. Just a suggestion

Kim Shipley it all depends on what other devices where running off that same power circuit/breaker.. the heater draws 12 amps any wiring even it the 40s let alone the 70s would be for 15 amps or more a coffee maker draws 9 amps and a toaster about the same which is why if they are both on at the same time off the same outlet they will usually pop a breaker. same thing.

ritewayguy they are quartz... quartz is what the glass is made of its a mineral not a gas

fathergratwick- correct, quart is the glass that encases the heating element encased in the quartz tube. they are not any different in construction than a quartz refrigerator defrost heater used in some brands such as G.E. i have an EdenPure and have for the last few years , had to change at least one heater every year. i just replace all 3 each time. these are supposed to be O.E.M. heaters that i buy. i think the quality is poor. that is my experience with EdenPure. I can buy similar heaters for half the price and get the same 1500 watt output that my EdenPure gives.

Your right eden pure was just the first to come to the market and they spent the money to market and familiarize people with these types of heaters... but they are still a $30-50 heater marked up once you open them up... the eden pure does use a better quality fireplace blower though I bet than some of the cheaper throw aways they don't even make replacement parts for... But we are a throw away society now... which is Why I picked up a solid oak cabinet sun twin /Eden pure in the trash with 2 bad elements yesterday...I remember paying $300 for the cheaper plastic cabinet eden pure refurbished for my dad about 7 years ago... he used it for years a lot and it's still going.

John Insco they are actually $60 for a set of 6 new OEM ones on eBay. I'm guessing you went to the distributors site which would have the highest price.
