The memory toy stood up so easily to the others in this recording

Honestly, my favorite delay was all of them at the same time. My favorite individual pedal was the Memory Toy. This video led me to buy one. If I get another delay it would be another Memory Toy.

some thoughts: the Big Box is obviously the yardstick by which all others are measured by... as its the oldest design. but that doesn't automatically make it the best! there are 4 groups in my humble opinion: group A - the Big Box and the XO. its the MN3005/8 tone.... natural repeats that roll off the treble slightly with each repeat. group B - the Tap Tempo's.... these are voiced brighter than group A. they are more versatile pedals featuring tap tempo, ability to fine tune the modulation, automatically select dotted 8th and other equations plus an effects loop which in which you can tailor the repeats to suit. it makes sense to voice the repeats as clean/bright as possible as you can easily darken them up with an EQ pedal. group C - the Hazarai. its the only digital pedal and bright just like a DD-3. it has features not on any of the other EHX delay pedals so its really in a league of its own. group D - the Memory Boys/Toys - much darker than the group A or B. lower price point and there to compete with the Carbon Copy's and AD-9's of this world. still a fantastic budget pedal and packed full of features/flexibility. there really is a pedal for every player here and this video does a great job of showing them all. my personal favourite is the DMMTT1100 as it has 1100ms of MN3005 goodness. find one if you can, they sound sensational.

I'm actually going for the MemoryToy, i love the Nano pedals, they just can't be beat for size & the sound is easily as good as it's big brothers.

Strange, but I liked the repeats of the "el cheapo" Memory Toy much better than those of the twice as expensive Memory Boy DLX. Both in this video comparison and in real life.

I have bought an XO Memory Man - I like it's dirty tone with less high end. Nice demo!

For the money (and tone), buy the Toy. One of my favorites delay all time.

The bigger and more basic the box, the better the sound.

I loved the Big Box and then the 550 best. Of the darker group (boys and toy) I loved the Toy, sounded so much like the Maxon and Boss analog pedals.

Hey, first of all, thanks so so much for all these great demos!! I watched all of them others about the delay pedals and soon i was a bit hooked up on the Vox Delaylab. But then i stumbled over the Memory Man. Your demos are great! Thx for all effort :)) Some youtubers say, don't compare digital to analog or these to those, but that comparison was exactly what i was searching for. A delay will be my first pedal and so i didn't know where to start. In the decaying on all the delays there is a big difference. For fast beats and many fast singlenotes the difference isn't too big but if you search for a big ambient sound imo nothing is sounding as good as the Big Box. Cheers

Here is some useful information from a DMM fanatic: After hunting down a DMMTT 1100ms I did a real long 1:1 test on the BIG BOX vs the new DMMT1100. My conclusion is that the DMMTT is really close to the big box but the true difference is in the decaying of the repeats and the modulation section. This is because on the DMMTT the repeats are digitally controlled and the same for the chorus vibrato. The digital artefacts of the digitally controlled repeats really show on the sweet spot just before oscillation. Just listening to them decaying you can tell that they are sort of 'unnatural' sounding on the DMMTT. I have not been able to get the same ambient feel out of the DMMTT, but apart from that it is a really good delay.

I simply liked the sound of the Memory Toy best. I don't need all the whistles and bells. The sound of that little box was beautiful.

I love that (ironically) the ones that are truest to the original are the least expensive two, the Boy and the Toy.

The best one is the big one, but if it was so close to the bigger ones that I would say the real winner is the Toy for everyday use. It sounds nice enough

The mm xo is the best for me, as it's got a bright chime like echo I did like the toy also very good, maybe you should do a lead solo through them now that would sort them out. In clean setting even cheap pedals sound ok , Soooo let's hear a solo dude after all that's where most people use them these days ;-) great vid

Next to the Big Box which is one of the most beautiful sounding Delays ever, the Memory Toy sounds just amazing!

The big box is perfect in mixing the dry and wet, in a way that the delay doesn't overpower the already great guitar tone, but mixes with it in a very present, not dark, and full way . It just sounds full, clear, and with no loss whatsoever of sound quality. Its way more noticeable in a small club, but in a big gig, any of the analog ones are perfect, except the hazarai, unless digital delay is the wanted tone, and for that, its full of possibilities.

I thought all of them being on at once would sound terrible... But it was actually quite beautiful...

well i'll be damned if the Mem Toy isn't the winner for me. I was not expecting that. Great vid as always.

I believe that the basic configuration is about the same to all pedals. Beyond that is what "more" you need for your tone. To me, a DMB /w TT is the way to go for my needs.

Yeah that Memory Toy did not suffer being first played in the line, held its own and sounded very nice to me. Like the Hazarai too for its versatility and reverse.

Have you tried the Xvive Echoman yet? It would be cool to compare that to the Big Box, XO & toy.

Can you get the swelling effect you achieved with all the pedals from just one? It's sounds amazing and ethereal. You should stop buying all those pedals until you can afford shoe laces :-) Just kidding. I would say the big box and toy sound the best, but it's hard to tell. I would consider the Hazarai, but I'm not so sure from this demo. So confuzed!

mmm The memory man with hazarai has a tone on the echo. In this test it's not set to replicate the deterioration of the analogs delays it competes with. In fact it's a completely different pedal as it can produce a lot of different effects. Reverse, reverb, flange, loops, etc etc etc. It shouldn't really compete against analog delays.

The big box Deluxe Memory Man is my favorite, then Deluxe Memory Man 550, and 3rd favorite is Deluxe Memory Man XO. At some point I will buy the DMM 550TT.

You can't go wrong with any of them.

The hazarai doesn't quite make it in this test, but its got 100 times more sounds in there. I do wish it had faster mod speed though. Its not a memory man at all, more like an unrelated multi-fx

With such uneven settings,i'm not surprised,that Deluxe Memory Man Tap Tempo 1100 of 4x cult- MN3005 ,sounds worse than Deluxe Memory Man XO 2x replace -MN 3008.

Smart move from Electro-Harmonix. Many people seem to assume that Man/Boy/Toy are different shades of the same sound, but instead they made them tonally quite different from eachother: slightly tape-like bright (MMan), murky/atmospheric (MBoy), somewhat grainy (MToy). Something for everyone.

'Slow it down just a tad..." and it speeds up (ha) Thanks though so much for the comparison!

It'd be awesome to offset the delay time of all of them by a little bit and get a massive multi-tap effect going.

If you need only those 2 settings, then just get the smallest one :)

Epic. Thank you. / How hard was it to get them together for this? / Electro-Harmonix delays have a sound all their own that I love. Brighter than MXR Carbon Copy (which I need a boost for to hear), Warmer than digital delays in my opinion.

If thy all where true bypass this would be a good comparison. The preamps still coloring the sound in off mode just messes up the comparison. I think big box is best analog, Noting beats the good old Panasonic 3005X's . SMMH is the best digital. All other are good except for the boy, it sounds like a toy, haha.
