Thanks for the review! Good job, as always. Had they had a hybrid shape I would have really considered these, particularly if the price tag wasn't so high.
Brilliant showing the launch angles! In table tennis, our equivalent is the "throw angle" of the rubber (high quality TT rubber is $30 to $50 per sheet and you need to buy two of them so places like Revspin will rate rubber by throw angle to help decide what to buy). One reason I like my DBD 16mm is the launch angle is perfect for my stroke mechanics. BTW, Chris Olson's review shows the black core material is very different than the previous Pursuits - might explain the power?
Yes, that’s the same idea. I wish I had a reliable way to measure it because I can notice a difference between paddles. And yeah, I saw that Core Video too, very interesting. That could definitely be why they have more power.
@@pickleballeffect The engineer in me wants to design a fixture to hold the paddle plus an air-actuated piston to fire a pickleball out of a tube to strike the paddle face in a consistent fashion. Sort of like a potato gun but more accurate :)
Thank you for the great reviews. I currently enjoy my Pursuit MX 6.0 but want a lighter paddle (better dink control) and a smaller grip (easier transition from continental to semi-western). Will I achieve both objectives with the Pursuit Pro MX 6.0 Lite?
You should look at the Engage Pursuit Pro 1 6.0. It’s still has the thicker core but has a thinner handle and is lighter than the MX 6.0 and plays similar enough that you’ll transition well to it.
@@pickleballeffect Great recommendation! Will I realize enough of a change in weight with the standard or should I go with the Lite? What am I sacrificing in performance with the Lite?
Hey man review as always! I like the fact that you are doing different things to differentiate yourself from other reviewers. Do you think the EX model handle length is long enough for a two-hand backhand? Keep in mind that I am a male but I have pretty average to small hands
I appreciate that! The 5” handle on the EX is pretty tight for two hands. I overlap the pinky on my left hand and can squeeze two other fingers on the grip and then my pointer is on the paddle. I wish they would’ve went with a 5.25” handle to accommodate a second hand better.
I’m glad my review was helpful. Engage stopped doing codes on their site since I released this but you can still get 10% off if you get it from Pickleball Central with the code 10EFFECT.
I just played with the MX 6.0 Pro and really enjoyed it. So, I decided to order one. I took your advise and ordered the light weight although the one I played with was the standard weight. If decided to add lead where do think would be the best place that wouldn't affect swing weight? Towards bottom at neck area?
Hi Braydon, your content is excellent as always! I've been researching for my next potential paddle and I am curious how you would compare the Pursuit MX Pro vs the Volair Mach 1 Forza? I played around with a MX Pro 6.0, it was pretty good except the grip is a little clunky and feels a bit hollow on impact (reminds me of Babolat tennis rackets). I thought the MX might fit my taste better than the 6.0. On the other hand, I've never played with a Forza. Would you mind to share your thoughts? Thanks!
Yeah, the MX has a denser feel to it that you’d probably like more if the 6.0 felt too hollow for you. It will give you more power and pop vs the Mach 1.
I thought the mx was the most unforgiving paddle I’ve played with. If you don’t hit the engage symbol on the paddle the ball completely dies. Can bring a ball to a dead stop
Demo’d the MX6.0 today, not sure which weight version it was (is it listed on the paddle anywhere?). Current paddle is Ronbus R3 Pulsar, no lead. Power was good, spin was sneaky good. At first I didn’t ‘feel’ I was getting great spin, but results were a resounding yes..spin was there. But…the swing weight was immediately noticeable, just picking it up; especially since my tendonitis has flared back up. And then there’s the price. My Pulsar is starting to lose spin, so I’m close to being in the market for a new paddle, but the MX6.0 isn’t going to be it. Club has an EX, so might give that a try.
Noticed the Johnson twins playing this at APP Atlanta. I wonder if not foaming the handle will cause a problem for "handle snap"? I saw a vid on the core material that shows how different it is from the competitors. Thinking this may be the reason for more power?? Great to see the "launch angle" footage.
Time will tell to see if there are any handle snapping issues but I would imagine it’s not quite as strong without the thermoforming design and foam not in the handle. And yeah, I saw that core video too, very interesting. Makes sense that could be the reason they are more powerful.
@@pickleballeffect You and Chris are my go to for paddles. Curious why adhesives used for attaching the face, is never talked about?? Trade secret maybe??
@@kimleith1378 idk on that one. Seems like the only time adhesives we’re brought up was when brands were scrambling to fix the “delamination” issues and were adding more glue. All I know is that the more glue you use the more weight it can add.
I liked the EX and if I had more time to keep playing with it I think I could get pretty good with it. But it has to be your main paddle. With as much as I switch paddles it’s too poppy to just pick up and play.
Watching this review again because I think I'm gonna exchange the MX 6.0 I recently got for a EX model. So, the EX 6.0 has a smaller grip circumference over the EX? I didn't notice that before. I wonder why they chose to do it that way. How was your hand speed with the EX at the kitchen versus the EX 6.0? Noticeable difference?
Hey, I just bought your tungsten tape on Amazon. I would like to increase my serve speed using my Engage MX 6.0 pro. Where would you recommend placing the tape to accomplish this?
Yes! Thanks for the support, I'm excited for it to get in more player's hands. Try putting 2-3 inches in the middle of the sides. If that does the trick then perfect, if not, move it up an inch or two and see how that feels.
Is the Scorpeus review still coming? These seem like an interesting alternative. Is the 14mm Scorpeus a little more control oriented than the Pursuit Pro?
I intended to do the Scorpeus but don’t think I’m going to get around to it. Too many paddles keep getting released and it’s hard to do a full review of them all. But yes, I think the Scorpeus is a little easier to control because it’s not quite as bouncy off the face but I like the feel or sensation at impact of the EX more.
@@pickleballeffect I feel like you can also release paddle videos where you just sit down and talk with them, much less effort editing/production wise. Not saying to get rid of how you do most of your review videos, but a mixture would be fine! I think the majority of your viewers would still watch the video and value your opinion even if you don't have footage of you playing with it.
Aside from the shape, did you see a noticeable different in power when comparing the EX to the MX model. In one of your blogs, you put the MX pro on the gold list so now I’m wondering which one I should demo :)
Are you talking about the length, width, and grip circumference? I didn’t on these but I do sometimes if something feels off. What was off on yours? I can measure mine.
@@pickleballeffect well it's shy of the 8 inch width and it's shy of the supposed 16 1/2 Length. My wife's original EX pursuit and my new EX pro Dims are all off. Prior to that we only had MX versions, and I never measured them. They always seemed accurate, but the EX's are not the dimensions that they say. I'm curious since they knew you were doing a review if your length and width on the EX are what they should be? Thanks
The Vatics absorb more pace and are easier to control while the Pursuit Pros give you more pop and power. Both good with spin. Both have a pleasant, softer feel to them.
Good call out. It’s hard to get it all in there ha. I’ll add some comments about that in my written review. The grips are bigger on the 6.0 models at 4.5” when the average paddle grip size is 4.25”.
@@kevintrinh2312 I won’t lie, it was somewhat difficult. I tried it first on my original Pursuit MX so it was even better results this time. Using a hand plane is can be difficult if you don’t have experience so my recommendation would be to scribble pencil lines on the grip wood where you want to take it down and sand evenly until pencil scribbles are gone. Rinse and repeat until it feels perfect. Be careful to reduce evenly on both sides and def don’t take too much off. I only take down the top plane of each side to reduce the square/box feeling. The wood is soft so if you’re careful and take your time, it’s well worth it imo. I wish Engage did this from the start, because it’s an easy alteration 🙌
