I ranted to my mother about this today. And then this video was recommended. Well played, FBI.

As a 4 in my childhood, I can remember I was never affirmed by my parents.

Was raised by my dad and grandparent. Not simultaneously, but flip flopped back and forth. Both had different parenting styles and environment to raise kids. It was a helluva ride.

Thanks for sharing that unique experience SL. Did either make you feel seen/understood as a child?

I hate being a 4… it’s a world of emotional torment.

As a 4, I have found nothing more restorative and healing than Jesus Christ and his love for me and all of His children. May God heal all highly sensitive people, for they are his chosen children. 🙏

Holy... I've been struggling with understanding the core "complex" of the 4 for almost a year now. Not saying that it would be quick to do. But I think this might be the most accurate point, and explicit description I've come across. Thank you for that!

Wow, just discovered this and yes to all of that. Literal spoken invalidation from parents as a child. Interesting.

As a 4 I was always very close to my mother who is a 2 with strong 3 characteristics and 4 traits as well (she is a painter), even though 4 isnt one of her wings.

Thanks for sharing. And for future reference, creative gifts like painting aren’t only in the 4 space. Many 9s and 6s pursue the arts as well, but really any type can be a gifted/passionate artist!

I’ve always felt aligned with this type but I was always really close with one parent while the other was abusive. So idk what that means. But I was always in my imagination, uniquely and usually alone, even as a child. And the rest of the type has always been accurate.

Very good and necessary video, thank you. But "loving and ever present parents" who, my goodness!, "dismiss explicitly or subtly the reality of the children 4s". It's always the same tune. The absurd catholic need of justifying parents at all costs, and thus culpabilising children.

Hey Ricard, thanks for watching & glad you appreciate the vid! Looks like you misunderstood what I said though. I didn’t say all 4s have loving and present parents. I said that the feeling of disconnection can come even IF a 4 has loving and present parents. Not all 4s relate to feeling disconnected or upset at their parents. Not really sure where you’re getting the Catholic influence on my perspective? I’m not Catholic, nor was I raised with any Catholic influences, and I am extremely critical of parents (especially as a type 1 who is constantly frustrated with paternal/authority figures).

@@YouveGotaType Your reply is perfectly right, impeccable. To be honest, I understood perfectly your point in the video, which as I said is excellent. I was just using your comment and put it beyond its own limit to stress this aspect of the apologies to parents that gets my nerves on every time I hear it. In other words: I admit to have been unfair with you in order to be fair with this issue, which I think is important.

@@ricard3135 Oh thank you for clarifying! That makes sense, and I appreciate your desire to expand the conversation to broader issues.

Are these people doomed to a life of hopeless self-expression, being a giant "feeling" processors?... Do I have the capability to turn one of them into a "dull, joe shmoe" farmer without them imploding? ...tough times ahead, I need all hands on deck.

You're describing type 9. 9w1 specifically with perfectionistic tendencies. 4 is not an attachment type.
@YouveGotaType
@YouveGotaType Год назад
I didn’t describe them as an attachment type. They’re an “ambivalent” type since both parents don’t meet their need to have their identity affirmed. And there are certainly similarities between 4s and 9s as they both are equally tied to both parental figures, rather than having a stronger connection/issue with one parent or the other. See my parental pattern whiteboard here for more clarity:
