Finally! The next build update.
Sorry it has taken so long. There was so much work making these windows, and I took a couple weeks off. I was starting to wearing out and there was a 3 week wait on my glass so I took some down time. I am sharing this build in real-time. What you see is pretty close to where I am up to. This means if I take some time off - you don't get videos. Sorry team.
So I am 75% through building my windows. The frames are all made and ready to fit the glass.
I have made these windows out of an Australian hardwood - Victorian Ash. It looks amazing when it is oiled, and the brass inlays are 👌👌👌.
I slightly underestimated how much work these were going to be. I had to machine all the timber, sand it, shape it, do the brass inlays, cut it, join it, oil it, wax it. It was endless. I did over 300 meters of cutting on the table saw.
Cutting the miters was a nightmare it wouldn't fit in my mitre saw so I had to use the table saw. I also cut some pieces of timber too short and had to get more - THREE times. More happens to be a 600km round trip away. But we got there and the windows are looking mint.
Next steps: Attaching the glass onto the windows. That is going to be a tedious job and not entirely sure how I am going to do it by myself yet. But we will see what I come up with in the next video
Until next time. Don't hate... educate, and go build cool stuff.

Sorry mate, if I didn't have old fellah's disease & have zero comprehension of time, I would've asked how you were going. In any case, you did the right thing by calling a time out when things get frustrating. Stress & tiredness are a lethal combination & serious injuries can become distinct possibilities. Looking forward to your next vid as always. Stay healthy. 👍

Thank you my friend. It was very touching. Great to just rest the mind.

Great to have you back again Phil, the break was clearly overdue and a much better option than making time-consuming and costly mistakes. As ever I'm constantly impressed with your attention to detail and I'm looking forward to seeing the finished windows.

I couldn't deal with cutting more timber the wrong length haha. Cheers rob, pretty excited to see how they come together.

Good to see you back after your break. For the glass you have some vacuum clamps, it might be worth experimenting with hanging the glass vertically from the rafters and moving the frame up to the glass? You might not even have to hang the glass, perhaps supporting it vertically on the bench will do the trick. Allowing you plenty of time to align the frame and glass.

Yep I have a couple suction lifters. I am looking at something like that where I lower it down the roof of the shed. The biggest issue I have is I have to have the glass laying down so I can put a band of silicon on the glass first - it gives me an even black band on the glass. Then I have to then flip it over onto the frame. I am currently looking at lowering the frame onto the glass even.

Coming along nicely! I am in the process of designing my own tiny house and hats off for the invitation you've got going on here! I'm trying to design mine with a roof that can raise up to allow standing height in the loft but also lower back down to keep the house under about 3.3m from the ground to allow easier travel... Think I might have gone a bit crazy 😂 On the topic of a rotating tiny house, I did see a company that uses the shipping container locks to lock the house to a trailer but allow you to unhook and switch the trailer around. Maybe something in that 🤔
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse 3 года назад
Cheers man. Great idea with the pop-up roof. I'm assuming your aiming for 4.3m? I looked onto something like that one. The trick if you wanted to make it really simple was making it weatherproof. There is one build who has done a pop-up roof. They swing up the roof then lift in the extra pieces. Haha totally don't need to be distracted with a rotating tiny house. The real trick is the track/turntable to support it. I did have some ideas of outriggers with a track on it. But sounds like more effort then it's worth haha
@matthewjacques180
@matthewjacques180 3 года назад
@@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse The pan was to try and keep it around the 4.3 once raised but it wouldn't be such an issue if it pushed a little higher given it would be parked up off the road when raised. of all the things I have found the most challenging is definitely making it weatherproof, Luckily dad is a sheet metal worker and no stranger to Aluminium so I have a few ideas about using some channel section that will sit over the lower wall. I believe I have seen that particular video myself that's what gave me the original idea. Yeah by the time you start adding big components the weight definitely kills it, and to go the the next step of using out riggers its probably a little much. especially given the house is already on a trailer and can just be moved anyway lol P.S no idea how the comment ended up here I did go to do it on the new one but 2am me had no idea apparently.

Really enjoying this whole series. Glad you got a rejuvenating break. Only recommendation for the videos is audio levels between your voice and the music at the end. Almost blasted me out of my chair lol. Only recommendation on the build is I hope you have other things planned after the tiny house is done. Love your ingenuity and positivity and would love to see more from you. Looking forward to your next vid!

Thank you so much for following along Kirk! I really appreciate the feedback. Good feedback on the audio. I didn't even realise until I saw it on here too. I didn't think it was that bad when I edited. I'll look into audio leveling. Hope the ears are ok 😆. Thank you so much! I'm playing with some ideas for another series. Anything you'd like to see? I'll get to work on that next vid. 👊

Love the explanations. My question is what will stop the beeswax from melting and staining the timber. I'm also very interested in the passive air flow option. I will have to just wait and trust you on the glass staying up with a bead of silicone but gee it's going to look good.
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse 3 года назад
The timber is oiled and waxed with the same stuff anyway. But you are right it has made the join darker. That is natural with oiling. Hopefully it won't create any issues. Haha adhering the glass makes me nervous too but it's all in the maths. Looking at my heaviest piece 1.4m x 0.8m and weights 25kg: It has a perimeter of 4.4m (or 440cm). With a 1cm wide bead that gives me a surface area of 440cm2 that of adhesion. The glass is 25kg (or 2500g) That is 5.68g per 1cm2 of adhesive. That is half the weight of a 20 cent coin per 1cm2 of adhesive. Crazy hey

Well I'm glad you're doing okay. The upside of the delay was that I forgot the mention of brass and was pleasantly surprised to see it on the exterior of the frame. Hmm, sounds as if some of your walls will open. Guess I'll have to stay tuned.

@@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse I do realise that, by exterior I just meant facing outside, even though you're adhering the glass on top of it. Hmm, could be anything from shutters to shougi, we shall sh'ee.
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse 3 года назад
@@zacdredge3859 ah sorry, yeah it's outward facing but will be covered by adhesive. That said you will see the timber and brass of the reveal through the glass which is going to contrast against the iron 👌. What is shougi? I can't find any info.
