Continuing on from Spencerport and stopping in the town of Newark, NY. In this video we are traveling part of the canal where locks are more frequent. We start to find our own groove of controlling Sea Wind in different locking situations..

Grew up in that area.. played many hockey games on the drained Erie Canal on the ice at the bottom

Wow that must have been fun! So they must leave a few feet of water in the bottom. Did you skate in the bottom of a lock that was frozen?

@@SailingSeawind oh no I didn't live near any locks. I lived about 10 to 15 miles west of the draw bridge you opened your video with in a place called Hulberton. Its just a rural hamlet now but before the invention of the Automobile it had a hotel, General Store and other such things. It just happened to be at one of those points where people ended up at sun down and stayed the night back when mules pulled barges.

Helpful tip for the cleat, turn the bitter end is below the other line then put loop on the cleat.

You will love the canal! Im replying to this comment in October which means you are potentially on the canal or just finished your trip! How'd it go if so? Thank you for the kind words Rodney :)

I didn’t want to step my masts so I wanted to head for the Weiland Canal and exit out the St. Lawrence River to the East Coast but I trucked her down because of my timing too close to winter.

I found out about dolphins way back while I was watching that Below Deck show. They were departing from the dock in there huge yacht and one of the deckhands forgot to untie the sheet from the dolphin at the very end of the dock. They heard this huge loud noise and it was the dolphin popping off of the wood dock post. Hahaha!

Woah that would have been a big boat to pull a dolphin apart!

Hi guys. Just started watching your channel. I have a quick question for you. At 9:09 you were pointing your finger at a chart in a ringed binder. What is the make of that chart? I don't recognize it and am interested in it for my trip. Thanks. All the best, Jim Andersen, CatBoat Adventures

Hey Jim! That was a chart book of the New York State Canal System. Someone had given it to us a while before we left. We passed it on to someone heading in the opposite direction and so I can’t give you the details on it, unfortunately. Hope this helps! If you google it you’d probably come across the name of it.
