In this episode I am trying to open people's eyes up to a compromise on Abortion laws and restrictions. This topic has divided us for decades and we are no closer to resolution now than at any other time in the past.

Surprisingly, we have very similar thoughts on this

My conscience won't allow me to stop fighting for the lives of preborn children. I'm somewhere on the spectrum between libertarian and minarchist, but this is one of the VERY few legitimate functions of government. If we lose elections due to fighting against abortion, that's unfortunate, but I accept it. I'm sure our friends on the left will be more than happy with that outcome.

I fear that if we continue to lose elections because of this, we may lose our way right into losing more of our freedoms, chief among them being freedom of religion and speech. Think about the things the left is trying to normalize while they have the power, the whole woke agenda only survives if we continue to have to be led by those that bend the knee to the fringes. Thanks for the comment and your respectful take.

I largely agree with your take here. I find myself going back and forth on the topic and find what I really dislike is how we talk about it. All abortions are tragedies, but yes sometimes tragedies are necessary. Because I believe culture is downhill from Law, I would prefer to see laws structured to provide the best possible outcome for pregnant women (and their spouses), allowing the possibility that abortion may be a best case scenario. Anyway I appreciate your measures take, keep up the dialogue.

Sounds like we are on the same page. There is so much vitriol around this topic but I think a common sense, middle ground solution really needs to be found so other parts of the agendas of both parties can move forward.

Although I would say that your position is a bit “lighter” than where I am I can see and generally agree with your point. I align with the idea “you can’t legislate morality”. Bad folks will do bad things and good folks will do good things. Put up obstacles and they will just find another way. As long as I have true freedom I will live my life as my beliefs and values dictate. THAT (freedom) is the ONLY pro/con I try to weigh heavily in my voting choices but I try to build as big of a list as I can to make a fully informed decision. Using one issue to cast a vote is short sighted and would tend to throw the baby out with the bath water (might be a bad analogy) Don’t FORCE me to do things and don’t FORCE what I believe to be unethical curriculums to educate my kids and… I will find a way to do “what’s right”.

Thanks John. I am hopeful we can find a way to take back the educational system but, as long as the left holds the power, I am afraid it will only get worse.

The point under contention is infanticide. Of course that's divisive. It could never have been anything else. It would be a moral failing if it *weren't* divisive. If you think people are murdering babies, and you aren't willing to draw a line in the sand over that, over what issue will you draw a line in the sand? If you think a compromise is possible, you haven't really considered what it is you're asking for. The baseline purpose of a nation is to protect the lives of its citizens. Why would someone who considers abortion to be murder compromise the baseline purpose of having a nation in order to preserve that nation? Your premise is one that cannot be seriously held by someone who genuinely believes in the pro-life position.

I am afraid that if no compromise can be found here, we will be forced to lose more and more of the things Christians hold dear as the radical left continues to move their agenda forward. I do feel the tide is turning as more and more of the fringe ideas they seem to get behind turn more common people against them. But, I hate to continue to give them traction as so many people on their side vote on this single issue.

I appriciate you being respectful. However I am an abolistionist and some things cannot be compromised on. We would NEVER compromise on rape, even though some people want it. We should NEVER allow pedophilia, even though some people want it. We would NEVER allow mothers to kill born children for mental health reasons, or financial reasons. It is no different with abortion. God has declared that you shall not kill an innocent person. And that is absolute. This nation was judged for compromising on slavery. This nation will be judged again if we compromise on the murder of ANY people group. Including the preborn. Thank you for facilitating this discussuon. All glory to God.

Thanks for the comment. I think one issue that I struggle with is forcing my beliefs on those that don't hold them, or at least hold them yet. I want to have to opportunity to have these discussions and, maybe, over time, we can bring more people to believe the truth we hold in our Christian faith. If this continues to divide us, I fear we will lose even more of our freedoms and I can definitely see them coming after our freedom to openly practice our faith. If it comes to that, my ability to have faith based discussions can be curtailed and then I won't even have the opportunity to spread the gospel and, hopefully, bring more people to Christ. I guess I see it as sort of playing the long game.

@@beforeitstoolate2023 I understand where you are coming from, and I do believe that you have good intentions. I just don't think that God calls us to compromise on what He calls an abomination. Pharaoh tried to compromise with Moses. "I'll let your men go." Or "the people can go but not the livestock." Surely there were people who thought, "Moses! Take what you can get! We don't want Pharaoh to be angry with us and punish us more! We don't want to lose what freedoms we have!" But every time Moses refused to compromise. And he was correct to do so. I also want to focus on something that you said. You said you don't want to force your beliefs onto someone else. If you and I were walking down the street together and we saw a man mercilessly beating a young woman in an alleyway, I think you and I would have the same reaction. I think we would run in there and STOP that man from doing wicked. And if that man saw us coming and said, "Hold on! I'm an atheist and I believe people are just animals and animals don't have any rights!" Would we throw up our hands and say "you do you man. I don't want to force my belief that women shouldn't be beaten onto you. Have a nice day!" Of course not! We should look for what is true and advocate for laws that are in accordance with God's will. Anyway, I appreciate you reading the comments. Hope you think about it!
