＃50, Hanta-ji
●About this temple
Hantaji Temple was founded by Gyoki during the Tenpyo Shoho era (749-757) at the request of Emperor Koken.
The name of the temple is Komyoji, and the principal image of Yakushi Nyorai was carved by Gyoki at this time.
After that, Iyo Nyudo Yoriyoshi and Takaun revived.
During the Konin era (810-824), Kobo Daishi visited the shrine and designated it as the 50th temple of the Shikoku sacred site, changing its name to Hanta-ji, but after that the temple fell into disrepair.
In the second year of Koan (1279), Mongetsu Shonin was revived after receiving a mission to pray for the retreat of the Mongol invasion.
In 1394, at the request of Emperor Gokomatsu, the priest Kaio of Sennyu-ji Temple in Kyoto, the family temple of the seven imperial families, was appointed as the seventh chief priest.
Since then, this temple has been known for having a high priest as its chief priest.
During the Tenwa era (1681-1684) of the Edo period, the famous monk Ryuko became the chief priest.
The temple's fortunes flourished as the Tokugawa family became devoted to it.
It flourished as a large temple with 66 temples and hundreds of subsidiary temples.
The area around the shrine grounds has been designated as a scenic forest protection area, and the cherry blossoms in spring and the autumn leaves are especially beautiful.
On the other hand, it is known that Ippen Shonin, the founder of the Jishu sect, returned to his hometown from Dazaifu, where he had been practicing since the age of 14, and began his training.
In addition, in 1288, he dedicated the Sanbu Sutra to Hantaji Temple in memory of his late father.
●Point to watch around
・The main hall - the precincts with a panoramic view from Matsuyama city to the Seto Inland Sea
In the bell tower on the right side of the main hall, there is a temple bell that was erected in 1696 with donations from believers.
・Kankitendo - During the time of the high priest Ryuko, the temple flourished with the devotion of the Tokugawa family, and the Kankitendo on the right side of the main hall is dedicated to Kankiten, one of the three nenjibutsu of the fourth shogun Ietsuna. Many people visit to pray for warding off evil spirits, business prosperity, and passing exams.
・Henro Bridge
The Ishite River fills the nearby Matsuyama Water Bottle/Ishite River Dam
Henro Bridge crosses this river that flows across the pilgrimage route that runs from Hanta-ji Temple to Ishite-ji Temple.

第５０番札所 繁多寺
●寺の歴史/縁起
淡路山の中腹、町を見下ろす高台に位置する繁多寺は、天平勝宝年間(749～757)に孝謙天皇勅願により行基が開基
寺号は光明寺といい、本尊の薬師如来はこの時に行基によって刻まれた
その後は、伊予入道頼義や尭運が再興した
弘仁年間(810～824)には、弘法大師が巡錫し四国霊場第五十番札所に定め、名前を繁多寺に改めたがその後、寺は荒廃
それを弘安2年(1279)、元寇の退散祈願の使命を受けて聞月上人が再興する
応永元年(1394)には、後小松天皇の意向で七皇室の菩提寺、京都泉涌寺(せんにゅうじ)の快翁和尚が第七世住職に就任
以来、この寺は、高僧が住職となったことで知られる
江戸時代の天和年間(1681～1684)には、名僧･龍湖が住職になり
徳川家の帰依を受け寺運は大いに隆盛
66坊と末寺数百余を有する大寺として栄えた
境内周辺は景観樹林保護地域に指定されており、春の桜、秋の紅葉が特に美しい
一方では、時宗の開祖である一遍上人が14歳から修行していた大宰府から帰郷し修行したと知られている
また、正応元年(1288)には亡父追善のための「三部経」を繁多寺に奉納
●見どころ
・本堂ー松山市街から瀬戸内海までが一望できる境内
本堂右手の鐘楼には、元禄9年(1696)に信者の浄財により建立された梵鐘がある
・観喜天堂ー高僧･龍湖の頃、徳川家の帰依を得て寺は栄え、4代将軍家綱の念持仏三体の一つである観喜天をまつった本堂右手の観喜天堂は、厄除けや商売繁盛、合格祈願に多くの人が訪れている
・へんろ橋ー近くの松山の水瓶・石手川ダムに水をたたえる石手川
へんろ橋はこの繁多寺から石手寺へ続く遍路道を横切るように流れるこの川を渡している
