Hi Gorgeous!! Thank you 🙏🏿 luckily an EPIK contract is pretty explicit and doesn’t exploit teachers compared to some of the hagwon contracts I’ve seen. Those ones have to be read and re- read and negotiated in some cases before any celebrations

Yoh the stories I have read about Hagwons are not the best ones. A lot of negotiations have to be done hey. I’m glad I went the EPIK route

Yeah 2nd streams of income are never a bad idea right!!! Just thought I’d share what the contract says. There are definitely people on the Epik contract that have other means of income. Just be careful and don’t advertise to your school/epik now that you know what the contract says. ❤️

Hi Annah, what is the difference between annual leave and school holidays (summer/winter)?. Do you still go to work during the holidays if you don't take leave?

Hi Katlego, your contact will tell you get X amount of days as your annual leave. You are free to take this leave whenever you want. (You would need to give your school notice and they approve it). Every work contract has annual leave (leave you get per year). Since you would be working for a school, schools close and children go on holiday. When they are on holiday you can take some of your annual leave days so you also will be on holiday during school holidays. If you choose not to take leave, yes you will need to go to school every day. Since there are no students as they are on holiday you will just go to school and do whatever you want to keep busy. you must be on school property during your normal school hours. The children have school holidays in summer and winter. Just like in South Africa schools close twice a year. So do schools in Korea. They just call is summer and winter vacation. You can choose to take your annual leave during the same time as the student’s vacation so you are not at work doing nothing since there are no students to teach. Choosing to not take leave does not mean extra pay 😋

@@AnnahPokubyethank you so much! This clarifies everything. I was wondering if the school holidays are like SA where teachers don't go to work when the kids are on holiday. I guess this means I just have to plan accordingly when I take leave. Thank you again 😊❤
