In this Episode I experiment with turning a contrast stain into a triple stain color, then change my mind and accidentally make a lovely discovery, but only after setting fire to my bench...

Sharing your discovery was the mark of a true gentleman and teacher. Too many would have just kept the technique to themselves. Thank you! Looks great!

Personally I like both, but that is the beauty of pipes, and pipe smoking. What makes us happy as a pipe smoker. The size, the shape, the color,even to what tobacco we may like. I do agree on what you said about painting a BMW psychedelic. Some things have been designed for the upmost beauty, and performance, that should be retained. But I would like to say, that for one of my next pipes I carve for myself, I'm planing to try this. I really like the effect. Thank you.

Anything "crazy" (ie out of the ordinary) is bound to be divisive - some people will hate it - maybe most - but others will absolutely love it

I really love the way it came out before you redid the Burgundy stain . Very unique, I wouldn't have changed a thing . Great video, thank you.

Quite happy I came across this while looking for informations regarding staining of pipes. It eases my fear of messing up too badly as now I see I can experiment quite boldly 👍 Thank you 🙋‍♂️ And for the record, I liked both the gradient and full burgundy versions 🙂

Great videos Mr. !! I'm a brand new pipe smoker and have bought a few estate pipes. been going at it refurbishing them with your help :). I'm also a leather worker so a lot of the dye technics apply to wood, I'm thinking of a sun burst pipe now, cheers and thanks for your awesome videos !!!

Eddie Quirarte thanks. You may be able to give some good advise on my latest video. I am going into unknown territory for me with a leather wrapped pipe.

Hey bare pipe! Lovely video! I feel like I am always pushing a heat gun, but I’ve seen others use a heat gun on a pipe before staining - much like you flashing it, but perhaps it would give a more even, deeper heating. Just a thought - as usual, just spitballing and sharing perspectives. I’ve never tried staining a pipe, maybe next time I have a chance I might try your triple stain method, hopefully with less setting things on fire (I hope). ;)

Guitar makers are doing some really beautiful things with dye, check their videos out, you may get some inspiration. I liked the end result a lot, great vid.

Interesting, I would have thought that superposing the burgundy over the yellow might have resulted in a slight orange tint. Very nice result but the 3 tints was not bad at all to my eye.

I'm wondering if you would have stopped after the first coat of yellow how that would have changed the entire project. In the end it was a real winner.
@BarePipe
@BarePipe 6 лет назад
Briar Report Yes that may have been a good point to stop, though it would not have been the saturated yellow I was hoping for, so my initial vision was likely still off the mark. In the end I got to learn something and I am happy with the end result, so all is well that ends well.

When you did the last burgundy coat after finalizing your decision to make the entire thing burgundy, did you dilute the burgundy with alcohol again or did you just use pure stain?? Awesome video! I love the final color!
@BarePipe
@BarePipe 5 лет назад
Amu Torres it was a series of about 5 diluted coats of burgundy.
