My husband and I were always HUGE slowhand fans. My 3 kids know all his songs. When my husband died in an accident at the age of 36 in 2015, I couldnt enjoy Clapton for awhile, and I definitely could not listen to this song. I just knew that if I felt like I did losing my husband and father of my kids, he must have been even worse when he lost his boy. Slowly over time, I have been able to crank his tunes in my car the way we used to. Then i started to not skip tears in heaven when it would play, and I loved it. This is the first time I have heard this version, and wow...I fell the evolution of grief when I hear it different concerts. This version I can hear peace, healing, even a little bit of joy in remembering. I am so glad I didn't give up on slowhand. He is the best, no one can change my mind.
You're right, this version (a bit reggae) seems like a pic from further down the road he's had to walk with this trgedy on his shoulders. It, and he, seems a lot more uplifting than the original which to me was just pure grief finding an outlet. EC has gone through a lot in his life, I'm gad that outwardly at least he seems to have done a hell of a lot of healing. No doubt thanks to his wife and kids............

It's such a sad beautiful song. I first heard it at a baby's funeral of a friend of mine. I have since lost an adult daughter of mine. I just love his voice and the empathy he extends.
Y daughter overdosed on heroin and fentynol. I always reach for my music when pain is in my life. It helps me to ease the sorrow and helps me heal from the hurt. I always reach for Eric Clapton. He is magical and enlightens my heart. Sometimes the pain is so bad that if I just cry for awhile it releases my negative energy and turns it into beautiful memories. Thank you Eric. I'm so sorry for your loss my mom passed away not too long ago and my grandfather and my uncle and my aunt it seems like within a year and I was basically left with nobody but my sister and it hurts so much and I'm just wondering if when we passed away will we see them up in heaven I just wish I knew for sure if we did

Animo. We lost our son in 2021 and were told something very wise: “take it one Day at a time, you have the rest of your life to grieve, do not get anxious”. We have been taking it slow and since we do not expect to heal fully, it has taking the anxiety away. We encourage you to become the best version of yourself and honor your lost ones for the rest of your life here on earth, knowing that God our lord will reunite us one Day with them, thanks to His Divine Mercy.

This song melts my heart every time. I lost my nephew on Mothers day. He was like my own son. Then we lost his nephew to heart problems at age two. I know they are ok and at peace in heaven now. Thank you Eric for singing for our hearts. It's a master piece for all of us that are still grieving. 😢❤
