ESPN examines Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre's involvement in the largest welfare scandal in the history of Mississippi that, according to a state audit, has seen at least $77 million of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds line the pockets of rich and powerful Mississippians.
Six people have been arrested, five of whom have pleaded guilty for their involvement. Brett Favre allegedly utilized his connections to get $2.1 million dollars in government funds for a pharmaceutical start-up he had stake in.
It was also discovered that he received $1.1 million dollars for speeches he never made and that five million dollars went toward building a volleyball arena at Favre’s alma mater, the University of Southern Mississippi, where his daughter would play.
Favre is now being sued, along with 46 others, by the state of Mississippi. Favre has denied wrongdoing and has not been criminally charged.

For a rich high profile guy like Favre, who will no doubt have access to high powered representation. The state needs to make sure there case is solid before seeking charges. The reason we have so much information, is that it involved public funds, and the public has a right to that information, but we don't know the details of an investigation. The DA also has to consider if he can even secure a conviction, vs offering a plea deal. But yeah Favre should be in prison, but I doubt he would spend a single day there.

Lifelong Packer fan. Favre was always a great player, as well as a tacky, classless, pig & selfish person. Turns out that was giving him too much credit. He’s a truly horrible human being coupled with all those MS politicians. Sad but not surprising.

Well Pat McAfee who just signed a deal with ESPN is the other guy who favre is trying to sue. Not surprised at all that ESPN is airing this out since then. This will be interesting now that McAfee has a big wig behind him.

It would be nice if Southern Mississippi Universities would sponsor this boys and girls club. Bring some of their resources to help provide for the athlete needs of this boys and girls club. The money that was used to build a ball court was taken from these kids. Not that it’s the University’s fault but this is a great opportunity for the University to connect to the community. Take that negative and turn it into a positive!
