The Irish Guy takes a look at the worst football transfer from each respective year, dating back to 2003. Including the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Joelinton and Angel Di Maria.
2011 Carlo Ancelotti for sure, a year after winning the league & finishing 2nd to a Man United team that made a CL final, knocking Chelsea out in the semis all to be sacked in the Goodison Park tunnel plus he got Torres who he didn't want!
I`m sorry i know this is late but.....serious? are there any sources you can give me? if that man did he should be hanged for wasting those millions on a ``my kid told me he`s good in a virtual soccer game``.
Harsh on Hargreaves. Was one of my favourite players for United and England back then. Was gutted about his injuries. He done more in that one season than most do in an entire career!
Santi Muñez started slowly at Real Madrid, found a niche as a super sub, floundered a little because of off-field issues (he discovered that his long-lost mother and stepbrother had settled in Spain), but eventually worked his way into the first team and helped Real reach the 2006 CL final, facing Arsenal. Thierry Henry scored a penalty and TJ Harper doubled Arsenal's lead in the second half, but Muñez inspired Real's comeback with a forty-yard volley past Jens Lehmann, before setting up Gavin Harris for the equaliser and winning a last-minute free kick which David Beckham curled in to win the final.
Sam Bingham fergie said it was his biggest disappointment, or something like that. Doesn’t mean Hargreaves didn’t do anything. He scored in the penalties stage of the 2008 CL final.
Khumo Matlakane I’m talking about his Arsenal time after the switch. Because by your logic you could also say that arsenal was a beast at Arsenal before the swap
As a portimonense fan, he's an absolute baller. Man barely has a knee and is still banging them in, he's not at the same level but he's got more flair and desire in him than a lot of top strikers, and that's why he didn't retire. Love the fact he's at my club
Zlatan was not the worst considering that in 2010 Barça won two titles the spanish league and super cup. The league was won by 3 points on the last day. His goals against real madrid and espanyol made the difference. Thanks to that they won the league and accessed the supercup.
Poor Owen Hargreaves. Gets a dream move to Man United at the top of his game, picks up injury after injury, and just to add to boot United treated him like a human guinea pig with experimental treatment after experimental treatment. The guy deserved better. Although I’ll never understand the Man City move, maybe it was just to keep Vincent Kompany company in the treatment room? 🤷♂️
Azamat Davletbekov, Definitely. He's talking like he gotta run when he's done 😂 My heart races when I hear this. You can try changing the speed of play 😊
HITC sevens: Woodgate played well for a Real Madrid apart from that awful debut HITC sport: WOODGATE WAS A DISASTER, WHY THEY EVER THOUGHT HE WAS WORTH THEIR TIME ILL NEVER KNOW
This is more like most publicised bad transfer. Especially Zlatan. He scored 16 goals that yr, despite the feud with Pep.There were surely dozens of more disastrous wastes of funds by other big teams that yr.
Imagine calling Goal 2 bad, limbs when Beckham won it in injury time from a free kick, from 2-0 down & Casillas saving a Nick Cannon/TJ Harper penalty to go up the other end & big Gavin Harris to score an over the shoulder volley
You're going to tell me that a man who comes into a club and wins the premier league and champion's league in the first season was "the worst signing of the year". Just because Sir Alex Ferguson said a thing in one of his books doesn't mean it's true.
Hargreaves was a total legend that one season, I travelled home and away that season and he was amazing. The only player that C. Ronny ever let take a free kick, great first touch, great mentality... if he had stayed fit Utd could have won those two Champions League we lost to Barca... real shame his knees were shot, but that one Champions League was worth every penny we spent on Owen Hargreaves...
I moved to Calgary in the winter of 1999 and played one practice vs Hargreaves before he left for Bayern Munich. Being from next province I didn't know who he was at the time but he megged me and another guy comes up to me and says dont feel bad hes going to Bayern Munich. Being an England fan and man utd fan both when he played in England and I was watching games I got to tell people I got megged by that guy on TV there.
Bit harsh on Musa, watched him when he was at Leicester, never got a break in the team and was always played out of position. Whenever we did play him as a striker he was reaaaaaaaaly dangerous and normally scored.
Owen Hargreaves had one good season with Manchester United.... He won champions League and played a full part in the campaign. Can't call him a bad signing.
Klaas Yan Huntelaar from Ajax to RM, or Gulian Fober who were signed and in 2009 February but didn't play single game and was soled in the summer of same year. Or Alexandre Gleb, or Chigrinski, or immobile.
Sure Ibra didn't gel well in Barca with his manager and sometimes his teammates, but the man still scored 21 goals in 45 games overall for them that season and won, among other things, the La Liga title that year. Sure it wasn't as great a success as it could or should've been, but I'm pretty sure you could have found a worse transfer that year, like maybe Roque Santa Cruz joining City for 17.5 million just to score 3 goals in 20 appearances for them over a period of 4 years or Aquilani joining Liverpool from Roma
if you think zlatan was a bad signing for barca you know literally nothing about football. getting rid of etoo is a different story but zlatan was the most impactful signing in barca history. (league performace in his first games). guardiolas disgusting moves were also not zlatans fault. he gave them what he had.
If you think zlatan was a good signing for that Barca squad you know literally nothing about football. Which you then demonstrate by calling him the most impactful signing in club history.
This guy in 2007/08 our midfield of Hargreaves and Anderson was the best outshone the likes of stevie G and Fabregas, even Modric and them when we played them. Too bad both of them where never 100% fit throughput their utd stay. And in 2018 Coutinho? No man ever heard of the man on 500k and on loan and injured in italy? Yes Alexis Sanchez
Due to his low fee I'm going to agree that David Luis doesn't quite make this list for that year, but I like where your heart is. He is the first player I named to my 11 man squad of most overrated, over-hyped wastes of space on the pitch. I will NEVER understand how that guy even made onto the squads he plays for much less the starting 11. I'm quite optimistic about Arteta.... He seems intent on replacing him.
We Chelsea fans consider Torres a club LEGEND!!! He shouldn't be in this list, what he did at the game against barcelona was enough to establish him as one of the greats.
And he won the corner that Drogba scored to take the final to extra time. Then he was an absolute beast when Chelsea won the Europa league the next season, leaving the club as the third highest scorer in European competitions.
btw, you are being racist by saying that Roman Abramovich bought his mate Shevchenko - Abamovich is from Russia, Shevchenko is from Ukraine. You are saying that those countries are the same. Well they are not. Russia and Ukraine are not mates as they are at war together. The reason I am typing this is because I am from the Ukraine and find that offensive.
Owen Hargreaves went to Man utd in 2007 and won the Champions league the year after in 2008 scoring one of the penalties v chelsea in the penalty shootout. What the hell are you on about , the worst transfer?
I am a United fan and the only thing I thought about while watching this video was alexis Sanchez and fred....I mean he is doing better but gosh things were bad
I'll admit Torres wasn't the player he once was when he moved to Chelsea but let's not forget that one important European goal which pretty much paid back his 50 mill transfer fee and also he played really well in the Europa League the next season which he scored a goal in the final. I'm not saying he was great but he wasn't that bad.
The correct pronunciation of Dudek first name "Jerzy" is more like yeʒi. This ʒ is common for Polish while the only English usage I can think of is pleasure - phonetically ˈplɛʒə'. The way how you pronounce jerzy sounds like Jersey. 🙂
