Everything Wrong With Star Wars Rebels "Spark of the Rebellion" 

It’s a sin that a Rebels episode is done before a Clone Wars episode..

I was super pissed when this show replaced Star Wars: The Clone Wars, but now that the show is over and their coming back to finish the last season of Clone Wars I can say it was a pretty cool show. Yes it's geared towards kids but like its predecessor it had some surprisingly mature moments and some cool Star Wars action so I can't complain that much.

This is just a warmup for the mandalorian sin episode....

The real sin was how Ezra escaped his prison cell. Rebels has some good episodes but sadly most of the time the plot just gets advanced by someones incompetence and/or stupidity.

Technically, you could swim through air in zero gravity. You couldn't swim in a vacuum.

I'm pretty sure they actually can move with swimming motions in zero g because its not straigh up space, there's a medium for air n stuff so it'd be similar to flying like a bird, except, you know, in zero g

Ya'll are forgetting that Ezra's a force-user, which means that his luck is naturally higher than others, whether it's picking the right path out of dozens, having surprising accuracy, being able to run and parkour better than others, etc. Also, yeah, Ezra's bratty and a nuisance, but when you think about his backstory, as well as the semi-harsh environment he lived under (due to the Empire), he turned out alright, especially when you consider the fact that he lost his parents at an early age. I mean, he still kept enough conscious to help out the Ghost crew. - Also, this is the point of character development: Not having your character be 100% likable from the start. Ya'll said something similar about Ahsoka, but now I'm betting that more than half of you initial Ahsoka-haters now worship the goddamn ground she walks on. As for Ezra knowing how to talk Stormtrooper, well, again, Lothal has been under Imperial occupation from some time. He's had practice and he listens very carefully. Given how he's not a fan of them, he'll try to learn how to f*** with them. And once again, he's a force-user. He naturally has better luck than others, because the Force guides him.

Not removing five sins for when Kanan walks forward and assembling lightsaber, with the entire Galaxy taking pause in that moment at the realization that the Jedi and hope aren't truly dead and everyone is inspired or terrified.

I love the Aladdin reference since Ezra was space Aladdin

You have to take a sin away for the absolutely amazing way they develop the characters. I know I got really attached to them by the end of the show, and Kannan’s death is heart wrenching.

"Swimming motions do not propel you forward in zero gravity." Yes Jeremy they do, you are pushing the air, and for every force there is an equal and opposite force so you are propelled forward. In fact it's easier to swim through zero gravity air than water because theres less resistance and no gravity holding you down so basic physics are the only thing to give a shot about. It's 1st day astronaut training

I think the pilot is the only episode I ever watched to this series.

Rebels starts off rocky, but it really picks up after the first season finale. We get Ahsoka and Rex back, more Vader, Maul, Mandalorians, the greatest Star Wars villain in tv history (Grand Admiral Thrawn), even Obi Wan. Not to mention major Star Wars lore. And don't get me started on the three most iconic moments of the show (spoilers): Ahsoka and Vader's encounter, Obi Wan and Maul's final duel, and Kanan's tragic yet powerful sacrifice

The boxer briefs bit absolutely killed me...LOL

Loved this series. Not quite as mature as Clone Wars but has just amount of the heart. Also the one thing that stapled my interest into the Star Wars franchise.

Also, there are only two Star Wars TV series I can name that existed back then, and TCW only had six seasons then, none of which the Inquisitor actually appeared in. Also also, fun fact! The Inquisitor actually made a cameo in the season five finale of TCW due to being retconned into one of the Temple guards at Barriss’ trial.

People are too hard on this show, there wasn't much they could do with only stuff between Revenge of the Sith and New Hope to work with. Clone Wars had a lot to work with and retroactively made Episode III better. It's also funny that the best parts of Rebels was when they went "Hey guys remember Clone Wars? Here are some characters and their fates!"

Do some clone wars episodes specifically about the clones, Ashoka, or obi wan. it’ll be kinda awkward because most of the episodes bleed into each other rarely having stand alone eps but I think they’re worth it

is there something wrong with me? for one thing a lot of people seem to not like this show, yet even the ones that DO like the show, most of them detest Ezra too. I don't mind him that much, I think each of them can be annoying at times. Yet the writing for Hera and Kanan and they're arc make it tolerable and hey don't even have a problem with those that believe in Sabra/EzBine (ezra and sabine hooking up) I love the side characters that make cameos now and again both for good and bad (sides aka light/dark). Futhermore like with Clone Wars love any episode that has Maul, and yes that includes the scene where the Inquisitors do something that thankfully only happens in that episode or those episodes since there were about 3 parts to a finale for one of the seasons (trying to avoid putting any spoilers) Loth Cats for the win!!

As with most of these sins, they can all be answered.

Also 69th sin, I know Jeremy sin stuff this way for kicks, but did he seriously just sin the pilot and only watched said episode? Cause the Inquisitors were pretty much introduced in Rebels.

This was a great family Star Wars show! It holds a special place in my heart! But clone wars is still best

So I avoided watching Rebels for a while. I saw the commercials for it, and after Clone Wars, the animation just looked awful to me. But I heard David Filoni made it and I saw one or two scenes with Ahsoka on youtube, so I finally sat down and watched the whole thing. And... I will say this. Clone Wars is definitely a better overall product. The animation tends to look more realistic, in Rebels, even though the animation can look good, the humans especially look like clay to me. The aliens are fine, the style actually works for them, but the humans always have an uncanny valley to me, especially Ezra and Kanan. You get used to it though, and I will admit there are some facial expressions they nailed perfectly that I haven't seen as well done in a while. Additionally the characters and dialogue work slightly better in Clone Wars. Rebels suffered from a recurring case where characters would say or do something that didn't feel properly built up. The instances I remember specifically are Wolf regretting turning the Jedi in, Cham Syndulla agreeing with his daughter's plan (the second time), and everyone being totally on board for a life threatening mission to retrieve Hera's calicori. Each one of these, I understood exactly why these characters made these choices, but I didn't feel like they were properly executed. I felt these instances could have used one or two more lines of dialogue (or in Hera's Heroes case an entire scene). Put simply, I understood that these decisions would be made and the reasons that they would be made, but I always felt like we skipped a few steps. Lastly (wow my English teacher would be proud), the themes and tone. Clone Wars is definitely much darker in it's themes and tones. It presents nuance to a lot of things that we had come to believe and challenged the audience with mature stories that were dark, not only from a violence and plot stand point, but from the actual concepts it addresses. The clones and their free will, the Umbarra arc's callbacks to Vietnam, the idea that the Jedi were becoming more political than peacekeepers, how much of your morals do you sacrifice to achieve what you're fighting for. These are challenging concepts for most shows to tackle. Rebel's tone was much more geared towards the lighthearted, and I can't recall any really challenging themes presented outside of the importance of friends and family and the idea of self sacrifice, that you can't save everyone. But that being said, I still think it's a good show. Rebels gives a great look into a ragtag team who go on adventures together. As good as Clone Wars was, I can't count how many times I was watching and thinking, "Why aren't Ahsoka and Anakin together in this episode?". To an extent, I almost prefer seeing Ezra and Kanan's relationship, simply because they spend so much time together. I like that the characters are the underdogs in this, rather than members of a major force that has a chance. I like that it takes concepts from Clone Wars and expands upon them (Jedi and clone relationships after Order 66, the Father, Son and Daughter, the idea that through the force you can alter events in time). And I like that my faith was rewarded. When I first saw Ezra, I said to myself "Ok, so they are directly stealing from Aladdin with his design, personality, even his voice a little bit, and he's annoying as hell". I made that remark and then said to myself, "Well, Ahsoka started out as a character that was irritating to watch and now she's one of the best characters in the franchise. I trust Dave Filoni." And man did he pull through, Ezra went from one of my most hated characters to I wouldn't say one of my favorites, but someone that I legitimately enjoyed watching and respected his decisions and actions. And I also like that when the show does go dark (I'm looking at you "Jedi Night") it sticks to it for the most part. So yeah, even though Clone Wars is a better product, Rebels probably doesn't deserve the bad rap it gets, but then again, I didn't watch it before Clone Wars season 7. So who knows.
