God... You people are so easily impressed. This is jack shit compared to what guilty gear was like. But fuck those people for working hard at something they enjoyed, right? But all praise to jackass Leffen for grabbing the lowest hanging fruit possible.
Love it. The Guilty Gear community is elitist af. Can't even give the champion his flowers without sounding salty af. Y'all let a Melee player come into your game and shit on everyone in the tourney? The EVO turnout was the largest it's ever been. You're telling me there wasn't a single Guilty Gear main that could beat Leffen? There wasn't one Happy Chaos player that was good enough to beat Leffen? He shit on y'all's home turf LOOOL
@@Henwin100 bruh the real guilty gear pro players just dont play shit strive, thats just how it is, thats why leffen won, most hardcore guilty gear pros were on xrd
And as a Guilty Gear fan, I'll say: Leffen is not a real guilty gear player. He just plays this basic bitch one that plays absolutely NOTHING like Guilty Gear and would get fucking wrecked in any other one.
@kkokay4 Zato? The character he lost last years EVO with? The EVO that HC won? If your gonna suck the dude off at least understand the fuck your talking about.
A blowout in grands is never what you really wanna see, and im not a leffen fan or anything, but winning a super major in melee from the brink of losing early, into mostly destroying evo featuring the best set of the tournament in your run (watch leffen vs pepperyslash if you havent seen it) is beyond respectable
I think melee has helped leff so much in scrambles and reads is being able to convert in mixey situations with close frame tight reactions and reads thats rather rare in classic fgc games
@@treycuretyeah to add to this Leffen has played fighting games since he was young. When he was banned from all of European smash he switched over to Marvel vs Capcom 3. But as the first guy said Melee in particular has uncountable scramble situations like literally every interaction is a scramble
@@treycuret if you boil anything down to it's basic elements, everything will sound stupid. What an incredibly ignorant statement lmao. Where are the other players that have been playing FGC for 20+ years lol..
Ignoring all the "CARRIED" stuff about HC, we can all agree that in-game (gun goes "BANG, BANG") AND in the GG canon (The Original) he's pretty much the strongest character of them all.
I wouldn't say carried. Didn't leffen make it to grand finals of another evo for strive with a different chip? Don't think it's necessarily carried if the dude is doing well with multiple characters.
@@Michael-hc2hp Just looked it up. Evo 2021 he got to grand finals. So the dude got to grand finals, winners/loser finals the next year, then won the whole thing this year and people say carried by character? Yea ok.
He really is incredible. Winning a supermajor in Melee and winning Evo in Guilty Gear within the space of a month has to be one of the greatest fgc achievements ever.
Cool stuff to Leff, but whenever I have someone ask me “Why do you not like Strive?”, I literally just show them this. A 5 minute grand finals is ludicrous. There’s not even enough time to enjoy the game.
Plenty examples of nail-biter GFs in this game, it just didn't happen at this tournament. Sometimes it do be like that and it can happen in every fighting game.
@@mik-hail7910He did something similar in melee when he complained about a character in Melee for like a decade only to pick up a character that beats Marth 6-4. I think my favorite Leffen moment was when he lost to Hungrybox (at a LACS) Shakes his head during the set then speed runs down to the casters to complain. He said something to the effect of "He only beat me because I'm so good at the matchup"
@@loganreidy7055 also can't deny his good tho. But when happy gets pot busted and Johnny gets released the game would be in a much better spot........ Probably
@@pacepicante6952 Theres a difference between criticism and jealousy. You idiots just can't be happy for someone that probably put more effort into something that you yourself can never do.
Yeah outside of using a top tier character he's honestly the underdog in this scenario. It's kind of hype to see someone who comes from a completely different scene absolutely stomp the grand finals of a game that plays very differently.
@@callumanderson6373Yah what an Underdog, quite literally only chooses top tier characters, he doesn’t even like the characters he plays he just picks them based of meta, hes a super boring player to watch and Idk where you think hes an underdog, mans kind of a punk in the community
@@fightedmealready2692 he's a punk but he also doesn't specialize in this game. He's a melee player up against a guilty gear veteran. Picking top tiers is lame but it's still somewhat impressive that he is a top player in not one but two fighting games.
@@callumanderson6373 I don’t get how people say he doesn’t specialize in Guilty Gear when he has been competing and streaming the game for almost 2 years now. Like i get he was originally a smash guy but at this point hes as much invested in strive than anything else. I don’t think hes a bad player by any means, i just think hes super carried
As long as everyone plays HAPPYCHAOS, and select other characters(X) ....sandbags for your training .Don't care other sandbags feeling, just play the balanced STG FPS~
As a massive leffen hater, I have to give him credit. Dude is cracked at video games... for whatever thats worth. Had he not just won a melee major a few weeks before this I could at elast say he was slacking on melee for strive but no. Dude wins a melee super major (granted it was an invitational) and then wins another evo title.
Dude... He quit Tekken and he's not even a Guilty Gear player. He'd get fucked so hard in XRD and XXAC+R, every zit on his face would pop and he wouldn't stand even REMOTELY a chance. He wouldn't even make top 100.
He plays happy chaos you cant call him cracked..he got destroyed in tekken, and in sf6 at kumite and said f this game. Hes a scrub who doesnt deserve followers
i mean yeah ggst damage scaling is so horrible for one mistake you do 50% of your health bar gone and its stupidly easy to connect combos on wall break like whoever starts the match good it just takes the W, horribly unbalanced game@@Thiago-Alboneti
People don't seem to realise the difference between being the best character on a tier list... and being the best character for a tournament. HC has done well in tournaments, but he's a high execution character that is harder to play in large formats. Sajam made this point. The drop off of playing a character like HC at 80% or 85% of his max is much more than playing Ram or May at 80% or 85%. This is why you don't see a never ending run of HC in grand finals.
There's a myth about it being the "neutral-based fundies" GG which is really ironic since it has some of the least neutral of any FG in general, even other GG games.
I still remember hearing about how Japan strongly believed HC is weak. I don't know if that's changed before this but good god if a grands double perfect doesn't prove anything about the character and the people good at piloting him.
i know im late but id honestly say when it comes to competitive games in general don't trust a regions opinion on the game just because they're really good at it. Like for example in league Korea dominates mechanically but you'll see them pull the dumbest builds or have the worst macro.
Bro as a smash player I’m genuinely embarrassed reading these comments. The superiority complex these guys have for smash just because a smash player way better than them is good at several games is crazy. No wonder the rest of the fgc community hates us lol
Strange that leffen can start playing a game and take an evo 3-0 in a couple of years and still struggles to win normal majors in melee. Hmm. Maybe the skill ceiling for an almost 20 year old game is higher than a recently released one.
@@mcadminbro2139that has to be the most brainless comment I've ever read. The age of a game has no relevance to difficulty. Melee is a happy accident, strive is a game that everything is intentional.
As a smash player, I agree, but it’s also kinda fucked that the people opposite those guys are just trying to discredit the win as much as possible. You can’t win a 2500 person bracket purely off of your character pick, anyone who says otherwise is just hating to hate
@@kona7043 It's only brainless because you completely missed the point. The ceiling for Melee IS way, WAY higher than Strive or any other FG. It's easily one of the most technically demanding games, it might even be the most, but that's a matter of opinion. Saying SSBM is harder than Strive tho is just fact
I missed the finals cuz I was busy so when I tried finding the vid to watch it I thought this was the wrong one cuz it’s way too short to be grand finals
Both players are amazing otherwise they wouldn’t be on EVO But man was this set unengaging to watch especially compared to the madness that was ArcSysWorldTour earlier this year.
Sounds like you have always been a Leffen lover tbh. Leffen is an utterly garbage person and if you disliked him, him winning a damn tourney wouldn't make you 180 and root for him. Stop trying to spread this false narrative that people flip for Leffen lmfao
It's a little bit of both. He was good in Fighters and Smash. But here he has a character that can do what he always wished he could. Skip neutral by having full screen fast attacks.
You have to understand that NBNHMR is a great player, one of the best. He has no problem beating HC and has in fact beat Leffen in the past. This day Leffen was on point tho.
@GuitarSlayer136 Because the character doesn't play themselves. HC's tools are outright better, but more than that, Leffen knows how to optimize. I've seen other HC players that spend ALL their time full screen, whereas Leffen was in his opponent's face the whole set. Not once did I think in all of the 5 minutes that got played that Leffen was carried by his character choice. None of the games were close enough to tell.
Oh what a surprise, a happy chaos player winning again the evo, the same of 2022, and who you think is gonna win the 2024 evo? Of course another happy chaos player
It's times like this that I wonder wtf was Arcsys thinking when they made HC, did they watch the boring-broken matches of Injustice 2 and think "WE NEED THAT!!!"
When happy chaos was announced I really thought he looked cool as fuck, once I opened the game, i got graped so bad every single time I went against a hc. Yeah I'm a scrub cause I dropped this game for sf6 now but I'm happier lmao
Congrats to Leffin on winning the 2023 EVO Championship for GG:Strive! Also, it cool to hear that he won a trophy in SSB and GG: Strive which are 2 COMPLETELY styles of games.
Now maybe it’s because I’m more of a Blazblue fan, but their defense seems to be lacking to me. I wasn’t gonna watch the whole tournament but I’m really confused about this, so I might.
You say that like winning evo in 2 different games is huge feat. Players like justin wong have multi titles. Not to discredit leffen but you cant say that its insane just for winning evo twice.
It's very sad to analyze this match, because so very little of it was actually adapting to the other player respectively. Leffen was just playing Chaos with a few tricks here and there, but 90% of his gameplan was the exact same. He got away with so much for doing the exact same thing this set that his opponent literally got a perfect against him through sheerly punishing his bad habits, whereas Leffen got 2 perfects in a row simply because his opponent was dealing with a character that just had a lot more spacing and aggression tools than he had. Nago was actually absurdly aggressive that patch, too, just as proof for how much the character itself specifically was walling him off. I can appreciate some of Leffen's more creative use of space and RCs, but I'm not going to congratulate a man for perpetually backdashing and converting into half health combos off of the most undeserved stray hits I've seen in any match. It's no wonder he gets squashed in games like Street Fighter 6 consistently, and that he's been performing incredibly worse recently since a lot of Happy Chaos checks have been more meta this patch
I came back to watch this since there's been a lot of discourse from the HC community about how he's now mid-tier, but he still gets some of the best results because they're just gods of the game. And yeah just like you're saying it seems like Leffen can play the most thoughtless neutral since HC beng lets him cover the whole screen, convert from anywhere, and pretty much end the neutral phase on a whim. Like HC players go on and on about how hard he is to execute, but none of them acknowledge how much he simplifies the decision making process relative to the rest of the roster. His shit just works on everyone with little to no specific matchup knowledge required. And then when he's slightly nerfed, and his players are forced to interact with a more potent cast, their lack of FG chops show a lot more clearly since they can't just steamroll with uninteractive bullshit.
@@culturemanoftheages absolutely agree. Execution barriers don't change the fact that decision-making is the heart of fighting game skill. If you remove that from a game, you're just mechanically better than every other character that respects that rule. Very glad Chaos is a respectable mid tier and now has to navigate games by actually playing neutral
Мда что с игрой сделали, почему такой баланс игроков. Одних и тех же персонажей берут, когда в игре большое разнообразие. Но из за имбалансных персонажей смотреть не интересно. В старых gg было интересно играть.
