Bethesda didn't make tactics, micro forte did. Bethesda bought the fallout franchise after BoS came out in 2004, and their first game in the franchise was fallout 3
Also, the reason for fallout 1 not adopting the gurps system was because Steve Jackson pulled out at the last moment, rather than interplay just deciding not to use it
Also it surprises me that they didn't metion neither Feargus Urquhart or Timothy Cain (Which where i believe more responsible for the creation of the Fallout Franchise than Brian Fargo was) Being Feargus Urquhart one of the Founders of Obsidian Entretainment (Timothy Cain joined after the developtment of Fallout: New Vegas)

+ShadowEspioFan1 It helps if you actually *READ* a comment, in order to find out what it is about. In this case, my comment was about the *DIALOGUE* , or lack thereof in a game that ostensibly has zero NPCs. At no point did I talk about "story," and by the way, your attempted defense of that "story" is... lacking. The fact that it is a "narrative prequel" makes it more of a _setting_ , merely telling me when and where it takes place, and does nothing to placate anyone who wanted a robust story. Take note, this is all tangential to my original comment.
Correction... Fallout: Tactics was an Interplay game by an Australian studio called "Microforte", it was before Bethesda acquired it... I worked for Interplay at the time and did QA for Tactics. It was a very interesting situation, Interplay had given Microforte a "letter of intent" that said they were going to want a squeal for Fallout: Tactics... Then Tactics didn't do so great, so Interplay declined to hire Microforte for a sequal. (Because a "letter of intent" isn't a contract, and isn't binding.) I don't think that was so great for Microforte, but they're still around I believe so they bounced back. I think the only reason people didn't like Tactics is that it wasn't 3 and wasn't by Black Isle. I enjoyed working on it and I think Microforte did a pretty good job.
I think a lot of people disliked it because of how it turned more into a real time strategy game, I played it turn based, but many people I tried to pull into it saw the combat system and immediately turned away. Thank you for your contribution to the series though
Aw, that's too bad. And thanks! It was an interesting time in my life. When Fallout 3 came out the "real time" AP system reminded me of the third mode in Tactics.
I love that tactics has a continuous turn-based system. Made the game very unique to play. I only play that way now. Now I gotta go back and improve my speedrun time.
Michelle E I played the hell out of tactics. I loved it. Thank you for your contribution to one of the more memorable gaming experiences of my teenage years.
I see my boy Cain on the thumbnail but no mention of Brotherhood of Steel, if not a couple inconsistencies with Tactics too. Even so, decent summary Falcon, I knew I liked you for a reason.

Fallout 1,2 are great and classics Fallout tactics was ehh Fallout 3 took over my life when it came out and I loveddddd it. Especially those add ons Fallout new Vegas is my personal favorite but it goes back and forth with 3 for what’s my favorite but there was something special about fallout new Vegas. Fallout 4 was good I enjoyed it some issues with it the building was fun I guess The main issue for me with 4 was I felt like there wasn’t a lot to do in the world like 3, new Vegas and even other Bethesda games. Even the add ons weren’t that good. Fallout 76 looking forward too hope it lives up to the hype a little worried with the story and rpg elements
@DasRetard I explored every place (with help the the explorer perk) but fallout 4 has the building mechanism and the crafting, and nost importantly the mods (on console), just my opinion but it doesn't seem to matter against the NV fanboys.
It wasn't referred to as such. The entire combat system was turn-based, with the option of spending an extra action point to aim for a specific body part. In those days, you could aim for the eyes or the crotch, too.
Amazing games they are indeed, personally new vegas is my fav though, i'm not a huge fan of turned base combat, if it was my first game though probably would be my fav but nowadays it's a bit hard to get into.
although new vegas story and choices were better, I will never forget how awesome it was playing 3 for the first time. spent sooo many hundreds or hours playing that on xbox and pc.
Facts I enjoy 3 as much as new Vegas new Vegas has a better story but the ruins of dc were much more Interesting to explore than the Mojave although new Vegas did still have some really cool locations
Can we all hail the NCR Ranger armors as the most badass looking armors in Fallout? I get the whole power armor thing, but those glowing red eyes (green eyes if it's the desert version) look terrifying, like some predator in the dark. I seriously can't get enough of it, it looks so badass
Blaze yeah it's definitely the most badass Armor in Fallout and I'd say a close second would be the Marine Armor from Fallout 4. Although I feel like the Marine Armor in Fallout 4 only looks good if your character is skinny and is wearing the Marine Wet Suit because if it's not then it looks really bulky and weird.
@@hadiakbari1171 It depends. If you like Fallout 4 you'll probably like 76. It might be worth getting just to play the Wastelanders DLC which adds human NPC'S and a new storyline to the game.
@@easycxre9482 came to the comment section to look for this comment. I pre-ordered fallout 76(the one that gave me the USA tophat) and I was NOT impressed. Hopefully now it's good. I'll redownload and check it out
Bethesda didn't invent V.A.T.S. it was in the first 2 Fallout games as a system where instead of targeting the person as a whole you could target specific body parts. All Bethesda did to V.A.T.S was make it work in an FPS, come up with a name for it and remove the ability to target the eyes and the groin. If you scroll down you can find other comments about how Bethesda didn't make Fallout Tactics and how not using GURPS wasn't something the developers got a say on. Where's the mention of Van Buren and it being about 90% done before being cancelled? Was this video even researched? Gameranx I usually love your content but there's so much misinformation in this it's ridiculous.
A "battle" between two or more countries who could make damage to the planet as so called "earth" that we live on, making more difficult to lives on and almos certainly killing hundreds of people... A "battle" between two or more countries who could make damage to the planet as so called "earth" that we live on, making more difficult to lives on and almos certainly killing hundreds of people can possibly never change...
Tactics was an Interplay Game. Bethesda may have branded on it recently because they have the IP, but Interplay did it. I know, because I was at Interplay at the time Tactics came through.
Chairmaniac Thank you sir I love you thought I was the only one here to point that shit out!!! They branded it with their own IP for digital copies all physical copies still have Interplay's name on it (Well as 14 Degrees East but its a division of Interplay so it counts)
Fallout 1: Classic Fallout 2: Awesome Fallout 3: Brilliant Fallout NV: Amazing Fallout 4: Awesome too Fallout 76: *Get the damn credit card mom I need the pink power armor*
I agree completely. Skyrim was a borderline RPG and FO4 wasn’t even an RPG at all. We need the role-playing elements that New Vegas has back, permanently.
ΛutistiЄ An RPG is any game that lets the player make choices and ASSUME a role in said game and affect the story while not just following a linear story so yeah Fallout 4 is an rpg just not a good one
VATS was the combat system in one and two wasn't named vats was just the combat system, they brought a revamped version of that combat system as a part of combat into 3 and called it VATS, the smart create the genius steal. The stole and changed up the original combat system and implemented it into their own combat system with a quick re branding of it. so VATS was introduced into fallout 3 but it spawned out of the original games combat system.
Ethan Oczus It's hard to say it was "revamped". It's identical in every way. Just because it has a new name doesn't mean it's not the same thing. And, I don't think stealing it and putting it in the 3d games was genius. If anything I think it's detrimental. It's a mechanic built for a turn based strategy rpg being copied and used in an action rpg. If they actually revamped it to better fit the genre I'd have been more satisfied. As much as I'm dreading Fallout 76, I think VATS in the 3d games should have always been real time. They would have to make the combat significantly less clunky, but it would have been much more innovative than copy pasting an existing concept.
I feel as fallout 4 wasn’t a great game but far from bad. It improved on what was bad in the other games but sadly didn’t improve what made the others great either. Edit. Thanks for all the likes
? I think it got a little to much shit, I personally find replaying games hard and boring but the only games I could successfully replay was fallout 4 and borderlands 2. And personally I really like how in fallout 4 and how it wasnt painted with the brownest shit they should find.
Fallout 4 needed Karma and something else Kellog was one of the best characters in Fallout 4, with there were more like him and Joshua a.k.a the burned man from FNV in Bravest Harts expansion.
You could play the entirety of both FO1 and FO2 and never target a specific body part (especially with the "Fast Shot" trait), but if you ever used VATS, targeting a part was mandatory.
Yeah??? Like in 3 too... You can play Fallout 3 without using VATS aswell, and targeting body parts in VATS is the point of VATS, is it not? Not sure what the point of your comment was...
Yeah, he did say that. From the way he played the old game in the footage we saw he is prob just new and didn't even know about the targeting system, lol. You can even target more parts in the old games such as the eyes and groin. :)
Fallout is my favorite game series ever. The theme just gives me shivers. The look gives me chills and I drink up every ounce of game and story I can. Every environment is beautiful and unique. Far Harbour, Honest Hearts, Old World Blues, Mothership Zeta, Fallout NV and Fallout 4 (just to name a few) are all vastly different, but when you see them you know they are Fallout. It has beautiful themes of hope, loss, revenge, and what it means to be human. It takes a team of people who really love their game to make something like Fallout. It may not be perfect but to me it might as well be.
Fallout New Vegas is a great game but super broken . I don't care that it took 18 months to produce it . I don't care that Bethesda force them to do it in a short time . The game is broken as fuck no matter how many excuses you use . You can mod the shit out of the game but it doesn't make the vanilla version better . The reason why ? Is because you stopped playing the vanilla version once you added a mod . I'm tired of people saying New Vegas is the best game but hates the Vanilla version because of the crashes . Only dick ride the game because of the mods and not actually for the game. I never seen anyone actually love the game for what it is without wanting to mod it . If you have to mod it to improve it , then you never loved it. You only like it and it's way different than loving it
They are both better RPGS than the shit show that was Fallout4. I don't consider Fallout 76 a Fallout game. Its some Rust- whoring of Fallout franchise.
Frost LeukAster, although I loved Fallout 3, New Vegas is my favorite. I have only had it for about two days but I had grown tired of the boring repeated dialogue, gameplay and visuals of 3. I just love the a look and feel of New Vegas. I really don’t like Fallout 4 though. No offense.

Fallout 3 was the first fallout game I’ve played and I love it and the fallout games I’m really looking forward to Fallout 76 and sinking hours into it with my friends.
A bit of correction: Fallout Tactics wasn't made by Bethesda, they only acquired the rights around 2004, after Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel (the console ARPG, not the Tactics one) was released. Bethesda also acquired the digital distribution rights for Fallout Tactics, but it was originally released by one of Interplay's subsidiaries.
In Fallout 4, you can do bad things but your character still feels like a good guy overall. I hope this is different and it's more RPG-like in fallout 5.
Building and customizing weapons in F4 is overwhelming. FNV had the best story and great simplicity. Love the remnants and references to previous games.
You got it all wrong with Tactics it had nothing to do with Bethesda (They only published the digital version) It was published by 14 Degrees East (A division of Interplay) and developed by Micro Forté in 2001 way before Bethesda claimed the IP. Interplay would make their last Fallout game in the form of Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel a top down action rpg which was dreadful and sold poorly which led them to sell the Fallout IP to Bethesda as the faced bankruptcy. Bethesda Game Studios have only made 3 Fallout games so far (Fallout 76 is going to be their fourt) Fallout 3, Fallout 4 and Shelter. So please get the facts right next time please it really bothered me how you got that Tactics part completely wrong and left out Brotherhood of Steel since it along with Van Buren resulted in the Fallout's we have today. Wow I ranted for a while but goddamn it if I'm a hardcore fan I'm gonna point stuff like that out.
Konello No fallout shelter is the best i felt like i was in the wasteland the non-stop action and nonstop tapping on the screen the dialogue is the best thing ever if you disagree with me you are not a fallout fan
Is it just me or does Fallout 4 just seem easier than the other Fallouts? Of all the Fallout games I've played 4 was the only one that I finishedwith ease, anybody else feel the same?
e·gal·i·tar·i·an 1. relating to or believing in the principle that all people are equal and deserve equal rights and opportunities.... I just related it to games instead of people. Just cause something is better it doesn't mean you have to like it more.
For Fallout 1, Black Isles were designing the game around the GERPS system but due to financial and/or licensing issues (I forget exactly) they could not license it. So, instead, it quickly created its own SPECIAL system as a replacement.
The owners of the GERPS license did not like all the violence, gore, adult language and adult content that was going to be in Fallout 1 so they pulled out of the deal. So the team had to scramble to start over with their own SPECIAL system instead.
FOCU53R I get it now war war never changes it's because like the war was futuristic and tech armour and weapons but he's saying it's the same I get it good work whoever thought of that
I like how Bethesda because they have made a game series for each type of player type: Shooters: DOOM Wolfenstien Prey Quake Rage Brink RPG: Elder Scrolls Fallout Strategy: Dishonred Battle Royal: fallout 76 Horror: evil within Survival: fallout MMO: Elder Scrolls Online LOVE YOUR GAMES BEATHESDA KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!😊😍
Great video so far, but a correction - Fallout 3 / Bethesda did not come up with VATS. The feature was there since first Fallout games. You did exactly what you do in Fallout 3, you aim at bodyparts to disable enemies or do fatal damage. Only that in F3 they made VATS go slowmo since they were FPS now too and with few little more tweaks. However they did not come up with VATS. It was always there.
Take this Call... Fallout 76 is going to be Fallout Tactics was in the 3-d of fallout. I'm saying it here Fallout 76 isn't going to amount to anything in the Fallout franchise, just another Mine Craft/Battle Royal. With less story that doesn't make any sense without a Story, stories are the soul and of the franchise and the gameplay cares, without a soul it will flop.
New Vegas by far the best, iv played all except tactics and i very much would play NV right now over any of the others. Not only where the little stories amazing to find and play out but also the RPG to FPS slider was like right in the middle. Ever since they went to 3D they have been defining this weird hybrid and while FPS in 3 was lacking and RPG in 4 was to be desired, NV nailed it! not to mention its where the modding community really blossomed and is why i make games in my spare time now! (and of course for chandlers amazingly horrid voice acting!!!!)
There was also Fallout 3 Van Buuren by Black Isle Studios. It was going to be sequel to Second Installment in fallout franchise but later it was cancelled. And also there was Fallout online. Nothing is known about fallout online while for fallout 3 van buuren there has been "demo" going around the internet. I think that these two games should also be included in fallout evolution cuz they have impacted fallout franchise development. Fallout 3 Van Buuren = Fallout 3 and Fallout Online = Fallout 76
I sadly haven't played the first Fallout games, but I loved 3, NV and 4 as well. They are games I keep going back to. Plus, mods make the games new and different (:
I don't mean to be the "Achtually" nerd but 1: Vats was in the OG fallouts. 2: there was a whole fight between interplay and bethesda about licensing and ownership that gave bethesda the rights. And 3: Fallout New Vegas was not made by bethesda at all, they gave obsidian the engine and tools to make a game and did nothing else except publish it. Fnv was Not a Bethesda game. No hate tho have a good day.
new vegas perks reamagind in 4 and stay back: 10% to knockdown enemies per shotgun pellet- new vegas and stay back: level one staggers enemies if all shots hit- level two has a 15% to stagger enemies per shot (because i can never knockdown enemies in 4 without pain train) strength 7 and 4 perk points
Lord Moist the Wet New Vegas was super broken, but that’s because of the terrible engine and the short amount of time that Obsidian had for development. And yet, they managed to make the best Fallout game ever. :D
Started my Fallout journey with 3. Loved it so much that I went to good old games and bought the first two. They are both equally stunning, in their own way. Gonna start on New Vegas once I beat Mass Effect 2.
They should bring back the Karma system. I liked how you would break into a safe or someone's house and you would pay a penalty for that if you weren't supposed to.
I've only played fallout 4 and it's amazing, by the way if fallout 76 is online only does that mean there would be no free mods because I can see them making mods or iterms for fallout 76 but I don't think they'll be free
Angry Bulldog Gaming there will be mods in FO76 when Bethesda adds private servers online but post launch. RU-vid the video interview with Todd Howard and Pete Hines for more information...or just go to the official website.

@@JayDude003 I was confused when he mentioned VATS and limb crippling as they both are there, in fact you could even have your eyes damaged in the original
i know a lot of people really love fallout new vegas, and i do too because the creativity of its side quests, the number of factions, and the lack of certainty of right and wrong when choosing a faction, but something for me outside of nostalgia makes fallout 3 my favorite of the series... i know fallout 3 had a lot of issues, and while fallout new vegas succeeded in bringing back the old dark humor of the past fallout games, fallout 3 really succeeded in the seriousness of the game, and drove home the fact that you were pushed away from the safety of the vault and thrown out into a wasteland without any true long lasting allies except for the single companion that you decided to take up... the lack of protagonist voice also helps enforce this idea... also I'm not sure if production was cut short or something but in fallout new vegas does anyone else think that some of the factions story lines seemed cut short like they didn't have enough time and money to finish them? i feel like the powder gangers, and the great khans storyline seemed abruptly cut short... actually most the factions and other groups did like the BOS, NCR, white glove society (could have gone further), definitely the followers of the apocalypse, the kings never were gone into enough, and the special soldiers with red eyes and helmets that protected the president (or didn't) were never talked about... overall its an amazing game with all the side quests and factions included, i just wish they had more individual faction missions as well as a main quest that did a better job of concluding the separate faction story lines (even though i know that life moves on in the fallout universe)
Fallout 4 was not a rpg. I'm not saying that I didn't enjoy it for what it was, but it was not a rpg. Tell me one aspect about fallout 4 that made it a rpg?
Fallout is my all time favourite game series. I first started playing Fallout 3, moved onto Fallout New Vegas and then Fallout 4. Fallout 3 is my favourite of all the Fallout games I have played and I am also really hyped about Fallout 76!
