I find this broad stretch of DW disappointing, not because the ideas are missing, or because the writers are unable to do clever things with those ideas but because of what I think was a sort of self-doubt slowly filtering into the production atmosphere. the solutions are good ideas also - more techy stuff, bringing back fan favourites, upping the ante on the 'something for the dads' factor, bringing in conflicted, complex companions... but that self-doubt led to that not feeling enough I think, and many attempts tended to get screwed up. adric may have been the first instance of this, the doctor's increasingly whacky costumes is in the mix, what was done to the fascinating character of nyssa definitely is, kameleon aka 'let's overreach our capabilities and ensure a great idea fails' definitely is, and the low point was perry. it wasn't until 7/ace combo that they managed to get all this right. the majority of 80s DW just makes me sad tbh. lots of cool stories and characters ruined by poor execution. nyssa deserved better. sail ship races through space is peak 'doctor who nuttiness' of the purest quality shape-shifting androids is a great idea, turlough-style long-arc plotlines are now integral to the brand, the master is always fabulous... they knew they needed to move with shifting tastes etc but weren't quite sure what 'kids these days' wanted... and tried changing too many of the wrong things in the wrong way. hindsight tho... an easy place to offer critique from. if only they had access to a time travelling device. hmm. XD

UNIT always changes its personnel, so maybe all of UNIT era is set within 3 work years, with Invasion being set in 1973. Liz's EPs could be late on in the 1973\1974 work year, Jo in the 1974\1975, and SJ in the 1975\1976. Making the Three Era set in 1974-1976.
