Noah and I went spelunking together for the first time at Pettyjohn’s Cave in Crockford Pigeon WMA. We climbed under, over and through rocks for a little over 2 hours. Pettyjohn Cave (also known as Wilsons Cave, Pettyjohn's Cave, Petty John's Cave, and other similar spellings) is a karst cave located in Walker County, Georgia on the east side Pigeon Mountain in the Appalachian Plateau of Northwest Georgia. It has a surveyed length of 31,490 ft (5.96 miles) and reaches a depth of 235 ft. The cave is accessible via a path from a gravel parking area on the side of Rocky Lane. Out of the 242 listed, it is 119th longest cave in the United States as declared by the Georgia Speleological Survey.

What a great adventure for a little boy. He'll remember that trip for all his life and that his dad was with him. Thanks for sharing. ~Sherrie in South Carolina

There's actually a waterfall down deeper into the cave you can walk a small stream to find it. I spent a lot of time exploring this cave in 1992 93 and 94. Enjoyed your video

Cool, I started spelunking in Petty Johns cave in 1988 and went almost every year until about 2002. I have been through pancake squeeze, the smaller stream that runs into the main creek, the small water fall on the small stream( up stream after dropping down the loop rope.) There is a much bigger waterfall up stream of the main creek. Also went to the bridge room and crossed the natural bridge that is about 100 ft off the floor, the volcano room, the echo room, the signature room and other places. It is a great cave!

I have been there many times. Drove from Augusta GA. It was worth every trip. Thanks for taking me back! As far as vandalism, it is mainly in the main trunk, once you get past pancake squeeze there is not near the vandalism, at-least the last time I went...

Those are calcite crystals. They glow. I’m starting in that cave with my boy whenever it dries out.

Really cool. I have never been inside it. I do deer hunt on Pigeon Mt. I remember driving on this road but didn’t know where the cave was. Was there any Native American signs in it? Petroglyphs? Watching now.... very cool crystal. Thanks for sharing.

The Cave entrance itself is on Rocky Lane. And no, the cave is so frequently travelled and abused, that there are no signs of native American anything. Even if there were, they would have been long since wiped away by now. However, a buddy and I did find some interesting scratchings in Screech Owl cave, which is a little crack in the ground about 200m East of the entrance of Pettyjohn. It connects up to the labyrinth in Pettyjohn and is far less travelled.

It's on a WMA need to have lands pass, fishing license,or hunting license to get on property, and you can get any of those on the dnr website i think. Fishing license is the cheapest one to get and its good for a year. I just camped out here this weekend and stopped by the cave, didn't go in though. Lots of hiking trails, lots of caves, there's a waterfall, and neat rock formations up in Rocktown closer to the top of the ridge.

You need more light for a good caving channel. As in action adventure twins.

That channel is awesome! This was my first caving video so I did the best I could with the light I had but you are right. I’ve thought about taking Milwaukee battery powered job site lights with me to give the audience a better perspective.
