Hello Guys, I recently purchased fabric at JoAnn Fabric and was surprised at what I found. In this video, I reviewed the fabric and pattern options and my plans for possible projects. Thanks for watching! KARON
Hi Karon, really enjoyed the video and don’t apologise for your enthusiasm and excitement about fabric and patterns, it’s lovely and one which I share. I wish we had a Joanne’s here in the U.K. I’m very envious. I think they should always be next door to a hotel…😉😆.
Thank you, Jane. I do get excited about fabric. 😀 You guys have some great fabric options, but then again, it all comes down to location. I am happy you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
Karon, your excitement was contagious. Isn't it great when inspiration hits? You have just demonstrated the advantage of going into the store and touching and seeing fabric. Your Joann's sounds like the many others I've shopped in; very little garment fabric and lots of accessories and decor and picture framing. They filed chapter 11 so I hope they get it together. They are the only fabric store available to so many of us so I wish they would realize what an asset they could be and focus on that and stop trying to be everything to everybody. I'm so excited to see the new collection you have planned. Gorgeous!
Kathy, I agree that the inspiration hits differently with the experience of touching the fabric while shopping. I am hoping to get them done to display all together, which will help me to realize the full 'collection'. Thank you so much for sharing in my excitement.
Karon, you got "it," a gifted eye for matching colors and fabrics. Love the blue on blue or twill green on blue. Experimenting is fun. Thanks x sharing. Your white will match all.
Mitzie, I appreciate your kindness. I'm not sure what I have got, but it gets me so excited to see fabric and options. Thank you so much for your support and encouragement.
All those fabrics will be beautiful on you. I always get inspired when I watch your videos. Yea fabrics and patterns really get sewists creativity moving. Thanks for taking the time to share!
Hi Sue, I believe I did see something contrasting in the blue shirting that might work with the green jeans. Let's see how these turn out. Thank you so much for watching. 😀
Loved our video and enthusiasm! Ou always inspire me. I made my first jacket a few years ago and I’ve been sewing for 50 years! Happy Sewing, from Cajun Louisiana
Karon, This was a great video. I enjoyed watching your excitement with the fabric. I know the feeling when you find fabric that inspires your creativity. Have fun with your jeans. You did a fabulous job on the first pair. You’re about to create some great pieces. Can’t wait to see them. Thanks for sharing Karon. Love your choices.
Hi Jean, thank you very much. I am happy you enjoyed it and can relate. I want to be able to finish them all and wear them in sets and show the looks I envision.
What a fantastic fabric haul! You have an eye for matching fabric with patterns. I love your ideas. But I have to say the white sateen might be to thin for jeans. I’d select a pattern that didn’t fit quite as close to the body. Something with structure though. Oh, and those batiks you selected are gorgeous! I just adore your enthusiasm ❤
Donna, I am afraid you are correct. Thank sateen is not going to work, so I am sourcing white stress twill. I appreciate you watching and sharing in my fabric joy😀
Your purchases are beautiful, this purchase is going to keep your machine humming for awhile. If you are thinking of jean supplies in the future, WAWAK has a nice container full of jean making buttons and fasteners, I find it to be a good price, it has all the different metal finishes, that you can rarely find anywhere else. I love your gold and green together, that color lights up your eyes. Thanks for sharing your nice purchases, and it’s wonderful to hear that you were able to pick up some nice fabric at JoAnns, maybe, just maybe they will start carrying more quality garment fabrics.
Thank you so much for the feedback and tip on WAYWAK. Always appreciative of good sources. Yes, I will be busy, but it's good that the fabric and colors keep me energized. Happy sewing, and thanks for watching 🙂
I enjoyed your excitement and "rambling" very much!!! You had so much fun that your happiness is contagious! Joann often has too much of the fleece and crafts things you mentioned, but every now and then I feel like I find a treasure there, and I've often bought batiks there as they have a surprisingly good supply of very pretty ones - wish they had more and better fashion fabric, but as you point out, that might be dangerous! I prefer shopping for fabric in person because you can really see the quality, weight, colors, etc. in a way that even the best online stores can't match - and your eye is also caught by things you weren't even looking for...
I am happy you enjoyed it, Mary. Yes, too much craft, but as we both acknowledged, it can be dangerous to have a fabric store in close proximity. You are correct about the eyes catching things we did not intend to buy. I went in for jeans buttons😁😁
Wow! You made some great purchases; the pairings work wonderfully together. Saw your video on blazers and loved it; my number one passion. You have done such a good job with yours. The navy blue and gold fabrics will round out your jacket wardrobe in terms of colours, texture and seasons; good job again. Have always been into mix and match to expand my wardrobe and you have such a good collection to do that as well. My only suggestion is to make one more purchase and that is a white denim or cotton twill; the white fabric you have is too light weight for jeans, sorry. Cheers. J.
J, you are so right on that white sateen. It will no work for the jeans, so I am sourcing white cotton stress twill for that project . Building a more cohesive wardrobe, one piece at a time. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts 🙂
Love the fabric choices. Like you, no good fabric stores within 60 miles. Joann and hobby lobby poor choices. Miss touching the fabric but settle for mail order. Cant wait to see finished garments
I agree, poor choices in my location, but I often see others with lovely pieces, so it's possible fabric selection varies by store. Thank you so much for watching and sharing your feedback.
You really love blue …. My favorite as well!! The larger stripes look good but you do sooo well on your garments …until it really doesn’t matter which fabric type you use.
Squirrel-er-Rama ❣️❣️❣️ I Love all this you pushing’ out ma’am🤣🤣 the jeans, Joanns 😩, fabric and pattern matching……got nothing but love and INSPIRATION❣️ 🥰🥰🥰🥰🤣🤣🤣🤣🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 Btw..my school colors were blue and gold ❣️ Binge daughter.. I’m here for it! Vocabulary: collection, Mediterranean , cotton sateen 💕jeans, WOW!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hilarious, thank you. Glad you like them. Yes, keeps me busy, and you at least found a color in the collection that brings you historical reflection of your uniform 😀 I appreciate you!!!
Oh, how I need your instruction/direction on fabric selection! I can see now that you purchase fabric first and then later decide what pattern it should be matched to. (The struggle is real here! :). ).
It is so nice to shop for fabric in person, isn't it? But almost harder to resist temptation, hahaha! The way you describe your thought process reminds me of "if you give a mouse a cookie..." The fabrics you picked go so well together and even though I don't usually like yellow, that last fabric is gorgeous. Seems like the white jeans will be a key piece in that collection and I would tackle those first. I guess in warm weather the white shorts you just made will also work? Beautiful plans. I really enjoy these "collection" plans. I wish I could make that many pieces per season, but I got to be realistic about my skills and time availability. So my sewing is more like filling in holes to compliment what is already in my closet from previous seasons. I am getting better at looking at the clothes that were put away before planning new makes. This year it has been refreshing to see several me-made pieces come back into rotation 😊
Thank you so much for watching. I could hardly contain myself. There are definitely benefits in me being far from a great store. Being able to touch and see is beneficial. I really hope I get them all done. Keep in mind I don't always get them all done. I make time after work and weekends, which is challenging. It is always great to be able to pull remade garments back into rotation. Enjoy every bit, and each chance you get to sew is a lovely feeling. Enjoy the process when you can.
Thanks, Debbie. I appreciate you watching and will suggest you watch a few videos on completing the stand collar. I had to before getting the collar on shirts. I totally understand your challenge.
