The choir gets me everytime! Love your knowledge of music bro. Structure, vocal techniques, production etc. Last To Know is a beautifully arranged song also...
I can't even believe how old this album is, I mean holy crap, and I got it 10 years late in like '01. Guess it was a good year for me to get this song in my catalogue, because that nihilistic type-feel was manifest in my life for a long time after that period. Makes me wanna go listen to "RV" off the Angel Dust album lol
Very great reaction and breakdown dissection of this FNM song. I think this tune happened one afternoon when instead of working so hard to get something on the album unique and Bangin they just pressed into a laid back little number that wasn't super sophisticated then threw in a Gospel choir and some Greek mythology. Huh? Good stuff!
It's awesome that he eventually got to play the full album live with them all those years later! Dude's amazing but humble too talking about how John helped him remember the parts for the live set 🤘
Roxanne--yeah, hard to listen to this song without having a smile on yr face by the end. Hey, how you feeling these days? Good, I hope. I just wanted to check in is all. Oh & to thank you again for all the good stuff here. Ciao.
I'm kinda distressed this wasn't worldwide #1. That hard(er) bass line you pointed out's kinda a bluff - the first time you hear it you expect the band to go hard at that point and then those BEAUTIFUL backing singers come in and the song just lifts AGAIN - truly a magical-musical moment. What the hell else can you buy for $10 or so that'll give you a lifetime of beauty. Great reaction.
Yeah, once again...:) The far eastern pentatonic scale from the verses meets the "far western" gospel scale from the chorus , hahah... Huh, you somehow missed this thoughtful treat and this special corner of the song ...? :) It is a symbolic play of music and lyrics, even presented in words, as in that narrative, when Mike says: "Man was born to love ...to fly like Icarus...to kiss the sun of EAST and WEST...";) The two cultures, which represent opposite sides of the world, merged in one song - through alternating changes - literally depicting the idea of unity and enormity of the World itself, without boundaries.... However, one cannot understand his whole picture, just because is alive... for being -"just a man"...:) Chasing that (Unity) Star in the Sky could burn one`s wings and the death in vain is inevitable...! But even as a man and if, by some miracle, it happens that this Star shows mercy to him and calmly place itself right on his palm, it`s a high chance that it will continue to burn painfully ...:/ Because that is the destiny of a man ... and any real artist, if the muse somehow shows heavenly grace towards him ... He is still: ".....Just a Man......" :)) I guess that`s the meaning of this song.:) Anyway, cheers and keep working on FNM. :) Tnx, Rox! Ciao! :))
