We are a multigenerational sailing channel with 2 boats and 1 collective dream of crossing oceans.
Meet Mick, Kate and their 2 boys Thomas and Bentley aboard Meraki a Stan Huntingford Explorer 45. An Aussie/Canadian family who dreamed of living life differently and took the leap into sailing life during COVID and have never looked back. Sailing from beautiful BC, Canada down to Mexico and then across the Pacific, through the South Pacific islands onwards to Australia and BEYOND!
You'll also get to know Kevin and Shawna (parents to Kate) aboard M2 a TransPac 49'. They've had had a lifelong dream to sail the world and are currently in the Caribbean with big plans to transit the Panama Canal very soon!
While the original goal was to be visiting anchorages together, life had different plans. With one boat being purchased in the Pacific NorthWest and the other acquired in the Caribbean we've been waiting out Hurricane season in separate Oceans.. but the reunion is going to be OH, SO, SWEET!

Again we get to experience this great voyage with you. Yay-- good you got that radio fixed. Communications are pretty important when a ship is plowing toward you! Bentley gettin' those flyin' fish. I've noticed that sailing boat parts don't come cheap. Great job getting your old (semi-)reliable autopilot back in the game. A gripping account of the unfortunate boat that hit a whale! So glad they made out okay, with the sailing community rallying together as we know they will do.

Comms are definitely number 1 out here! We were heartbroken for the crew that lost their boat but we were also really impressed by how well they handled it.

Great Job with repairs underway! For your VHF issue, a larger gauge wire might help you out and give you some margin. Just FYI, I started a dingy build on my channel. Mick might find it entertaining;)

Great video. I'm glad you're all prepared if there is a problem while you're on the ocean. I forget you don't have the RNLI close at hand when you're all the way out there. You both seem so adept at fixing things when there are problems though.

We know our old girl well now too so that definitely helps with the repairs. Sometimes we complain about how manual she is but the upside of that is our systems are simple.

Kate, this was really fantastic! It’s so wonderful to see those shots of the beautiful blue horizon in tandem with the daily life aboard day by day! I was absolutely rooting for Mick taking apart the auto helm… Cheering him on, even though this video was probably taken quite a while ago, lol! Really loved your thoughts at the end… My heart went out to that crew who hit the whale… And truly a happy ending. Excited to see the next part and wishing you guys fair winds as always! Kids like to run around parks, climb trees, play ball, shout & roar, and also have some alone time. How do your kids cope without that, is it much of an issue?

Great question! 3 week passages aside (that is not our norm) this is a very social and active lifestyle. Our kids run on beaches, swim, paddle and have a pretty consistent group of boat kid friends to play with. I'd say if anything they're wilder than they were in landlife ;) We play hard and passage days end up being good down time for them.

Hey guys love your videos I was just listening to your thing about your VHF radio let me tell you I'm Electronics service person anytime you put a new electronic device on your boat especially a radio new transmission cable always don't use old that stuff goes bad believe it or not always use the biggest you can get RG6 or rg8 or bigger I usually like to go is because I can get and usually try to buy the best RG cable usually it's multi-stranded very tight woven RG cable you'll get better transmission from that. You want to also have a dedicated circuit for your transmission radio or radios so it's on a separate breaker just thought that might help. One of the things I would recommend though especially because you're going I guess around the world next time you haul out have a good day of going through your electronics check all the leads check all the connections anything that doesn't look good #redo it you'll be much happier once you do it I hope you have a good time in Polynesia

You are absolutely correct, everything you have said is our one day goal for our electronics. It's been a slow process but we are slowly cleaning up and re doing all our wiring. We really appreciate the tips!

@@CruisingMeraki let me also tell you put anti lightning strike of suppressors on your boat especially for the radios and electronics That's also really important and for all the electronics is important stuff the computerized gear also the radios too have they make special gear for the power that smooths the power so there's no spikes or interference created by other things in the boat that's also really important if you're going to do it right but do it right don't penny pinch get good stuff good connectors good cable good stuff and it'll last you a lot longer if you do it properly does everybody always penny pinches and puts cheap crap in there and in the cheap crap lasts a little bit but then it always goes out it costs you more in the long run and same thing like with the engine the engines too you know the electrical generator and just use quality parts The difference between a quality part and a cheap part is usually 25 cents difference when it comes to electronics I don't know why but that's what it usually is but I hope your sales wonderful and that was a wonderful last video you did
