In this video I install a fan shroud and a custom exhaust. For the fan, I used a Volvo V70 fan and relay setup. This is supposedly the same fan as the Ford Taurus, but the housing is easy to bolt to a shroud.
For the exhaust, I went with a Flowmaster 3" pipe kit, Summit H-pipe kit, Vibrant resonators, and Magnaflow 3" straight through mufflers.
Parts used in this exhaust:
Flowmaster 3" pipe kit amzn.to/3Jf26Wx
Magnaflow Mufflers amzn.to/37474bl
Vibrant 3" resonators amzn.to/370PAN2

Got that Blackstone under the car with ya. Hanging pipe, and grillin' pipe! Exhaust looks good and sounds good! Awesome job!

Thanks buddy. I used it much more when it was in the garage than I do now that I put it on the back patio.

Just some tuning at this point. Then see what kind of parts we can destroy!

Great build! I just started on my LS E39 build last week! Quick question, is there a specific reason for choosing H pipe vs X pipe?
@PetesGarageandperformance
@PetesGarageandperformance 2 года назад
Thank you. I chose the h because all of the 3” x pipes I found would neck down to about 2.5” in the middle of the X. It seemed like a choke point to me. I guess I could’ve made my own x pipe but the H was easier.

Hey Pete, back to your other post... Shouldn't the pipping from your aftercooler run to your reservoir then pump then too the top of the heat exchanger and then compressed cooler fluid flows down through natural flow and pump pressure back to the aftercooler? I see you have it hooked up differently...
@PetesGarageandperformance

The way I see it is the pump pulls the “warm” water from the reservoir and then cools it down to close to ambient air temp through the heat exchanger so the intercooler coolant is as close to ambient temp as possible. Then it dumps that into a gallon capacity reservoir and repeats the process. I’ve honestly only seen a few degrees over ambient temp for IATs so far. So it appears to be working well.

hey pete could you share some pictures of your shifter cable mount to the 4l80e? im trying to fit mine up but it seems the cable is a little too short to reach the shift linkage on the trans.

The setup I have now doesn’t work quite correctly. I have the newer 5 speed transmission so my shifter goes “PRND” and then slide it over to M for manual mode. This shifter doesn’t have enough throw to properly pull the cable far enough for the 80e shift shaft. I still need to stop by the junkyard to get a setup from an early e39 that has PRND321 on the shifter. I’ll make a video on that setup here in a couple weeks.

Do you have the link for the fan? Or what specifically Volvo year and model it came from?
@PetesGarageandperformance
@PetesGarageandperformance 2 года назад
I got it out of a 2000 ish Volvo V70 at the junkyard. Also grab the relay on the shroud and the wiring pigtails. Make sure you don’t get the fan with the big PWM controller because they had two designs. VDO part number FA70302 is the fan on rockauto. That’s the company who makes the OEM fan. Fan relay Standard motor products RY563 for the relay. But then you’d need to source the wiring connectors. That’s one of the reasons I just got mine from the yard.

Do you believe a TBSS intake would fit under the hood of a 540? In your opinion.
@PetesGarageandperformance
@PetesGarageandperformance 3 месяца назад
It would be close. It depends on how low you can mount the engine. If you build your own mounts you can put the engine as low as your oil pan will allow. On my car with the CTS-V supercharger and lid, it barely fits. I’m not sure what the exact height difference between the TBSS intake and the supercharger lid is.

@@PetesGarageandperformance I can try to look it up. What year group does that supercharger belong to?
